"'Infinite Warfare' units came in 17 percent shy of our expectations, down close to 50 percent y/y," Cowen analyst Doug Creutz wrote in a note to clients Friday citing NPD data.

Another Wall Street source with access to the data told CNBC that November's NPD "Call of Duty" unit sales were down 51 year over year. The person requested anonymity as they are not allowed to reveal the firm's research.

http://www.cnbc.com/2016/12/09/novem...lysts-say.html

That second source could be including bundled sales as there was a Black Ops 3 bundle last year.

No wonder it went on sale quickly.

Plus it wasn't bundled with PS4s this year.

Ouch. Guess that's going to be the last we'll see of the Infinity Ward brand, then.

But IW campaign was not only far better than BO3's but it was one of the best in the entire series.

They're going to bury the Infinity Ward name; the Call of Duty game in 2019 will come from Neversoft.

I didn't enjoy Modern Warfare 3 or Ghosts, so this was an insta-skip for me.

Maybe this means we'll get a standalone MW4 Remastered soon. I'd buy that.

I don't think this about AAA. I think this is about COD. It goes up and down, but eventually the weight of annualization will crush it.

Take a page from AC. Recede, pull back, rethink.

Fingers crossed for the next one tho.

Isn't this just physical disks are down? This could actually be a good thing if digital sales are way up. 50% does seem like a lot to make up with digital.

I hope the lesson learned here, with IW and TF2 both under performing, is not that a compelling single player campaign isn't worth the investment. Anyone else fearing that? I haven't played either campaigns but they both are heralded as great entertainment and very well done.

It also had a promotion for launch (Friday and Saturday) where it was free with every PS4 purchase. Pre orders must have been bad.

I bet next year is either a full reboot or a surprise "Modern Warfare 4"

They either need to go back to the best brand, or strip everything back down to just "Call of Duty"

Yup clearly one of the worst. It just has the Best SP in a long time, really good zombies, and a multiplayer mode that has been improving due to unprecdented amount of communications with the developers. Clearly the worst.

It's not surprising. Releasing in a market full of better shooters and having such bad word of mouth before it's release did not help the game. Black Ops 3 was genuinely a good multiplayer game whereas Infinite Warfare excels in it's single player, something most COD players don't care about and certainly not what the mass market was asking for. I expect next year to be another remaster or possibly a return to World War 1 or 2 to ride off BF1's success. Game is still too profitable to skip a whole year completely.

Not surprising to see considering the discounts and sales on it last month. And purely anecdotal, but I don't know anyone who bought this one. Very big difference from Black Ops.

What I played of the multiplayer during the beta what pitiful. I could hardly bring myself to try more than one round.

They fucked up. Imagine the sales if it didn't have an edition packaged with Modern Warfare Remastered.

Great campaign, shit mp. I say this as someone who's bought every cod since 3. The exo and heroes are tired not to mention the loot box crap, they just don't belong in cod. I realized I'm not their target market anymore so I'm out.

Good campaign, trash multiplayer. The shell of the real IW can't make good multiplayer it seems.

I got the version that includes MWR for $60 on black friday, at that price it was a good deal. Two good shooter campaigns and one good multiplayer lol.

They can always play the CALL OF DUTY 5 card. They still have that in their back pocket.

Might be fitting for Sledgehammer's supposed World War II game.

Blops 3 revitalized the series and sold the best in years.

Then IW took over and released one of the worst multiplayers even by their standards. Ghosts was bad, but not poor. This shit is poor. Just absolutely abysmal gunplay and map design.

The campaign is a lot better but the flinch makes it impossible to play it like a shooter. you are better off hiding behind crates and playing it like a cover shooter.

People, especially CODers know that Treyarch games are going to be amazing. CoD is not going to die anytime soon because in two years Black Ops 4 is going to sell like hot cakes again. BLOPS 3 is that fucking good.

Given that these games now have three year dev cycles, it's kind of impossible for them to pull any sort of major overhaul for next year unless they were already planning on it.

God damn, that is quite a drop. Many of us saw it coming but jeez. Activision have some challenges ahead of them in terms of keeping the franchise form falling further.

They will never do it, but it badly needs a several year break

If Destiny 2 is a major success then COD will probably take a break or be left to fend for itself.

Well, I think the takeaway will certainly be that you need a sufficiently exciting multiplayer experience regardless.

Doom sold well for what it was, but it's not like it's anywhere near the level we saw Overwatch and Battlefield (or even collapsing CoD) doing.

In general I think gamers expect you to capture their imaginations a lot more than they have in past years, otherwise they just keep playing the continually updating games they already have.

Still not enough in this year of plentiful fantastic shooters. It was clear from the day the first trailer released that BF1 was going to make a serious run for the crown.

I haven't heard a single good thing about the MP this year, mostly that it doesn't do anything new and the maps are the same sterile types of areas.

A shame because man that single player was fun.
