I agree totally, but there's a scary-huge number of people--including Bill Maher--who are similarly incapable of nuance.

[–]rg57 4 ポイント5 ポイント  (3子コメント)

Bill Maher is actually one of the most nuanced people on this topic, and he is repeatedly defamed and misrepresented by people like Ben Affleck for it. Bill regularly points out on his show that not all Muslims are the same, not all Muslims believe in violent jihad and terrorism. He has interviewed gay Muslims. And he had a one-on-one interview on his show with Maajid Nawaz (and if I'm not mistaken, other similar people) who is seeking to reform and moderate the religion from the inside. People who see the world in black and white terms don't like Bill because he's able to look at Wikipedia's terrorist incident list for 2016, notice that almost all of them were done by Muslims, in the name of Islam, and recognize that Islam has a serious problem, more than any other religion today.

That's not correct. More terrorist attacks have been done by white, right-wing terrorists in the US. The FBI correctly considers right-wing terror to be a bigger threat to US national security than Muslim terror.

[–]SocksOnMyMind 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (0子コメント)

I suggest you actually read the list. Right-wing US terrorists account for a very small amount of the terrorist incidents in 2016, absolutely dwarfed by the amount perpetrated by ISIS, not to mention other islamic terrorist groups.

I recall his exchange with Fareed Zakaria, during which time Maher brings up the "poll" which allegedly reveals that a majority of Muslims want Sharia Law worldwide. I think that exchange is included in the video below, but I'm not sure, and on the way to work, if anyone else can find the segment, I humbly believe it encapsulates Maher's attitude towards Islam at least, which is not nuanced.

Muslims regularly throw gays off buildings...

Um, no. ISIS regularly does that - but not the vast majority of Muslims.

Try not to stereotype.

[–]OtterSigma/r/gfur is my home 9 ポイント10 ポイント  (3子コメント)

A: Not all Muslims, especially not those in the U.S., throw gays off buildings.

B: Not wanting them to be ostracized doesn't constitute support of the tenets of their faith in general. They have a right to have their beliefs, and our government should neither overtly support those beliefs, nor overtly work against them.

C: I'm going to guess that you are of the opinion that the Republicans are the better option in this regard; however, I remind you that the Republicans work against our rights on the regular. In a country where "Give me liberty or give me death," is one of the most well-known historical phrases, why do you think that American LGBT people would opt for a near guarantee of a loss of liberty for the promise of lackluster security against a threat that may or may not come to our doors?

[–]rg57 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (2子コメント)

There's a significant difference between "give me liberty or give me death", and "give me liberty AND give me death"

In places where Muslims have the chance to set the rules, gay people live in terror. Have you seen the news from Bangladesh recently?

Being Muslim isn't something like sex or race. It's a choice (well they do say they'll kill you if you leave...) and it's a system of rules, just like a political party, but with a god. If these were Nazis, I think you'd take a very different view. But because a god is involved, they get a pass?

Of COURSE the government should oppose these beliefs, whether it's having to do with the history of the universe, or what should happen to gay people.

[–]OtterSigma/r/gfur is my home 1 ポイント2 ポイント  (0子コメント)

When I said the government shouldn't overtly work against the beliefs, I didn't say the government shouldn't stop the ones that affect others from being put into practice. They are free to believe that I should be tossed off a building. They are not free to actually do so. My opinion of Islam is just as low as my opinion of Christianity, but I don't think we should start policing people's belief systems so long as those beliefs don't turn into adverse action.

And yeah, I agree we have it much better over here, but I don't think that means the idea that we have to choose between being killed or being seen as lesser is an idea we should suffer to continue.

It's more about how everyone that's Arab-looking (including people who are Indian, Sikh and even middle eastern Christians) get stereotyped as ISIS militants because of the color of their skin.

[–]rg57 4 ポイント5 ポイント  (2子コメント)

Look, I am opposed to Islam (and all other religion) but this is just nonsense.

Muslims (over a billion people) do NOT regularly throw gays off buildings. Rather, fundamentalist Muslims (wahabbis, typically) do so, and even then it doesn't happen a lot. But several Muslim countries have the death penalty for being gay.

What the real concern is, is that Islam promotes a hatred of gay people. The Quran is actually less violent to gay people than the Bible is. It just says we deserve death, we're lewd, and all that. But it doesn't actually say to go and kill us. But the Hadith do, and they provide various ways we should be killed, both the top and the bottom (which suggests that other cultures of that era punished only the top, or only the bottom).

Polls of Muslims regularly show an intense hatred of gay people. In the UK, for example, the tolerant Muslims of the UK, not even 1% think that homosexuality is acceptable. Not even 1%.

So I do not support Muslims. But it is not correct to say they regularly throw gays off buildings.

Anyway, if it interests you, look up the politically incorrect (and therefore actually funny) game MiloTosser. Your throw Milo Yiannopolous off a building to his death, hoping to bounce and squash as many Muslims as possible. It's been removed from pretty much everywhere, but you can find it at their own web page.

He is 100% interested in interning members of the LGBTQI community, yes, based on the things he's said and the people he chooses to give power.

I'm friends with a few muslims. None have ever tried to throw me off a building.

[–]TrumpFansKillUrself 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (1子コメント)

I've been violently attacked by one person in my life for my sexuality. It was a white, Christian terrorist. Muslims have never done me any harm.

You Trumpian brownshirts already got what you want. Your narcissist kleptocrat master is elected and gets to flush a once-great nation down the toilet. What psychological malfunction keeps you coming in here demanding that we be happy about it, I don't know, but it's not going to happen. We might not be able to save our nation, but we will retain our pride and our conscience.
