How is this even an argument? He's obviously fat. You can look at pictures of him and see it. There's a reason he wears huge suits and overcoats.

The FPH element of the Trump Train don't want to admit their passion for public health was little more than bandwagoning on the most convenient rage machine of the time.

no, lol. one of the relatively nice things about FPH was that they didn't even peddle the "we shame them because we want them to get better" horseshit. they were exactly the people who would post pictures of fat people at the gym to mock.

TALOS THE MIGHTY! TALOS THE UNERRING! TALOS THE UNASSAILABLE!

To you we give Praise! We are but maggots writhing in the filth of our own corruption! While you have ascended from the dung of mortality, and now walk among the stars! But you were once man! Aye! And as man you said, 'Let me show you the power of Talos, Stormcrown, born of the North, where my breath is long winter. I breathe now in royalty and reshape this land which is mine. I do this for you, Red Legions, for I love you.' Aye, love! Love! Even as man, great Talos cherished us. For he saw in us, in each of us, the future of Skyrim! The future of Tamriel! And there it is, friends! The ugly truth! We are the children of man! Talos is the true god of man! Ascended from flesh, to rule the realm of spirit! The very idea is inconceivable to our Elven overlords! Sharing the heavens with us? With man? Ha! They can barely tolerate our presence on earth! Today, they take away your faith. But what of tomorrow? What then? Do the elves take your homes? Your businesses? Your children? Your very lives? And what does the Empire do? Nothing! Nay, worse than nothing! The Imperial machine enforces the will of the Thalmor! Against its own people! So rise up! Rise up, children of the Empire! Rise up, Stormcloaks! Embrace the word of mighty Talos, he who is both man and Divine! For we are the children of man! And we shall inherit the heavens and earth! And we, not the Elves or their toadies, will rule Skyrim! Forever!

Don't they have the president examined by a doctor on a regular basis and publish the results? That's going to be interesting

I assume they'll get the best doctor.

Is this actually a legal requirement, though, or just a convention? If a convention, I'd more or less assume that ol' tiny-hands will just ignore it.

Seems like it is a convention, but while further looking into it I found this rather funny excerpt about the president's doctor:

Daniel Ruge, Ronald Reagan's first physician in the White House, resigned after the president's first term and called his job "vastly overrated, boring and not medically challenging." Ruge could not attend most state dinners due to lack of space. He nonetheless had to be ready for emergencies, and usually waited alone in his office wearing a tuxedo.

It would be terribly gauche to have an un-tuxedo'd doctor if the president dropped dead just before the meal started, I suppose.

[–]BaconOfTroyUnemployed shill for hire 6

Really? Interesting! Is it the same for women's suit jackets?

The rules for men tend to be hard while the rules for women are way more flexible. For a two button jacket, you can button the top only or both buttons. If it's a three button jacket it's best to base your decision on how long your torso is--if you're short-waisted you're better off not buttoning the bottom button. I'm in the camp that women in suits should unbutton their jackets to sit the way men do, but that, again, is a matter of personal preference.

I don't think you're ever supposed to button both buttons for a 2-button suit actually

I know you never button the bottom only, but I learned (on Mad Men, so you know, not the most hot fashion knowledge here) that you undo the bottom button when sitting down - I've been going with that when wearing suits... or more realistically a sports coat with a button up and jeans.

Coasts are definitely a little more variable with women (which I'm kinda jealous of) but I feel like for a suit the same rules generally apply.

unless your coats were designed to be buttoned with both buttons (which most aren't), it probably looks weird if you're buttoning both

As for sitting that's really just a comfort thing although most unbutton to avoid creases or popping buttons (with a two button, one button you always undo sitting)

Generally it's best to unbutton everything when sitting, keeps your jacket nicer.

Here's some one who doesn't know what he's talking about.

[–]emmsterIf you don't have anything nice to say, come sit next to me.

Not buttoning the jackets fully is a valid style choice. What's much more obvious is that his suits don't fit properly and he has no idea what to do with a tie.

I don't even think it's that his hands are that small, but his jackets are so unbelievably large that the effect is enhanced

[–]emmsterIf you don't have anything nice to say, come sit next to me.

That's what it looks like to me, too. Wearing clothes that fit well has such an impact on so many aspects of your appearance.

I know the man can afford a good tailor. I wonder if he just doesn't listen to him the same as he doesn't listen to his barber.

I don't think he has a barber - I think his hair is sentient and determined not to change.

Did something change? Are you supposed to button all the buttons on a suit jacket now?

Before Edward VII ascended to the throne of Britain, when slim Prince Albert was well known for his tight-fitting corsets the style was to wear waistcoats and jackets that look like you couldn't breath in them.

Then, Edward being a portly man meant that this would reveal a large belly overhanging his belt. He started wearing the bottom button undone on everything, the court followed and we still do it.

Stock up on frumpy Trump suits and dump your skinny jeans I guess if you're a fascionista. And don't be too surprised if something like /r/the_fatpeoplelove becomes popular with the previous subscribers of fph.

[–]DanConnersGarageYOUR FLAIR TEXT HERE

I didn't see anyone saying he wasn't fat, they were debating whether or not he is obese

[–]Brover_ClevelandAs with all things, I blame Ellen Pao. 60

He barely falls into the obese category but there are also other numbers out there that put him just outside of it. That's also based on his BMI which can be hilariously bad for actually determining obesity. Guys like Dwayne Johnson are technically obese according to their BMI but personally I don't think that applies to Trump.

More amusing to me he will be the 3rd fattest president by his BMI and weight. I have a rather lengthy (and horribly flawed argument) that he might actually make Grover Cleveland the 2nd and 4th fattest president which is perfect.

hahah he's such a goofy looking dude. the hair, the muffin top, the orange skin.

[–]Brover_ClevelandAs with all things, I blame Ellen Pao. [

That's what I'm saying. He isn't a body builder and those pictures show it pretty clearly.

Yeah, outliers are people like short people with small frames, or big people with large frames. You know, someone with a large head, hands, and feet, wide shoulders, etc. Or people with a lot of muscle.

In other words: not Trump. He's just obese.

[–]AetolBan shredded cheese, make America grate again 5

...what does "shitlord" mean again?

IIRC, it was first used as an insult by SJWs back when the word still had meaning. Back then, "shitlord" was basically used to mean opposed to social justice or being <something>ist. The counter-movement like TiA and friends started using it among themselves ironically and eventually the more extreme branches started taking pride in calling themselves that

Using it ironically has spread beyond anti-SJWs, actually, though it's certainly most common amongst them.

I say this because Super Best Friends Play ironically call themselves that and have nothing positive to say about anti-SJWs.

Google says Donald is 6ft 3in and weighs 236. If that's actually true he is technically overweight not obese according to the calculator at

https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/educational/lose_wt/BMI/bmicalc.htm

His BMI is 29.5, and obese is 30. He would need to lose 39 pounds to hit normal weight.

What a weird conversation.

Oh and according to the government I am also overweight by two pounds. I'm not sure how good this category could be if someone who needs to lose almost 40 pounds shares it with someone who needs to lose 2, but whatever.

If he's 6'3" there is no fucking way that he's only 236. My 6'1" buddy weighed that much last year and he didn't look remotely close to golfing-Donald levels of fat.

I'd bet my middle nut that he's at least 260.

BMI is a poor way to measure true obesity, but Trump is a) clearly obese, and b) probably weighs more like 275 or so. He's a really big guy - not just fat, but also tall and broad shouldered.

There has to be a cutoff range somewhere. A BMI of 25 is associated with increased health risks. Of course, people who are borderline aren't as cut and dry compared to others. Someone just under a BMI of 25 could be overweight while someone just over a BMI of 25 could be normal weight (especially if the one over is very athletic and the one under is a couch potato). Also due to the fat distribution in Asian people, they have increased health risks and are considered overweight at a lower BMI compared to non-Asians. For Asian people it is 23 instead of 25, and 27 for obese instead of 30.

Forced balance is a farce, and it silences majority opinions. It implies that both arguments are equally valid, no matter what the two arguments are. There could be an election between Westboro Baptists and Social Democrats, and you would have the discussions be balanced out of some kind of misplaced idealism? Even if 99% of the people disagreed with one side and they are straight up evil and incorrect they MUST have equal support?

Bullshit.

Political Discussion wasn't bad until recently. Although it has always been left leaning like most of Reddit, it was a pretty good, with people from all over the political spectrum posting and getting respectful responses. Once the election cycle started and Bernie supports overwhelmed the other political subs it seems like PD took a massive swing to the left after many Clinton supporters took refuge there. Now it's pretty much /r/LiberalDiscussion and any conservative viewpoints are routinely attacked.

Well, I know one of the mods is hoping that things improve. Mostly cause I'm hoping that the Electors all go rouge and throw the election in to the House of Representatives where the top three vote getters are Seth MacFarlane, Noam Chomsky and George Soros.

I just want to see the screaming Republican Congress critters when they're handed something like that by the actual Electors. And the screaming T_D subscribers when they find out that the Electors could legally do that to them and their so-called Savior.

I think it was inevitable whenever membership got large enough. Really good posts that had a lot to talk about generated >200 comments, which prioritized speed of commenting and glomming onto top-tier comments over starting your own discussion.

With volume of submissions the OPs themselves deteriorated, so you couldn't just hang on New and get in early. Most posts became ridiculous hypotheticals ("Suppose Trump switches his parties five days before the election after Clinton dies awaiting trial, would Chris Christie still be in charge of the transition?") or the same set of super open-ended questions over and over ("What happens if Democrats win the Senate but not the house?").

But that was probably inevitable during the elections, when everyone flocked somewhere to ask questions and /r/askpolitics foundered. I used to love writing those three paragraph long comments, but for the good posts I couldn't make a dent in the mess of comments and for bad posts it wasn't possible to construct an interesting argument. Hopefully it levels out at some point and becomes a good outlet again.

[–]Anonymous_Ascendent [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Democrats can't move towards the center, they're already there (Moderate Liberalism and mix between capitalism/socialism).

Trumpers want to move the 'center' to the far right.

[–]YesThisIsDrake"Monogamy is a tool of the Jew" 14

It's weird that people think that's the issue with Democrats in an election where they lost not because their opponent did well, but because they didn't bring out nearly enough voters.

Nobody is going to passionately support a centrist party. Push it further to the left. Bring in the populist tactics, get down and dirty. Let's start pushing at least for a more democratic-socialist platform.

I think it's even more simple than that. Run someone who isn't perceived so poorly because of constant attacks and is more charismatic, whether we move to the center, move to the left, or stay where we are. We brought out actually decent amount of voters this time around (overall popular vote) but did poorly in Rust belt states because of lack of turnout there, and still decent turnout in states more likely to hate Trump. Biden takes flak from the GOP for the next 4 years, they can't swiftboat people if we suddenly bring out 2-3 surprise candidates at a time.

Run someone who doesn't need to cheat to win a primary to start. Why anyone is shocked that she wouldn't do well in a general election is beyond me.

I'd disagree, it was more Democrats talking to themselves around August-October. Please, report the shitty shit!

Warning and banning more people with more arbitrary rules enforcement isn't going to get you back the high effort posters you've lost. /pd/ peaked in March, when the mod team played favorites and made a "safe space" echo-chamber for people who didn't like Bernie. Now you just get to enjoy your low-info, low-effort safe space.

I've thought a lot about how much of an echo chamber the sub has become and really I can't think of anything we would be able to do about that. We don't create the content and we only remove comments and posts that break the rules.

We can't just have some "no excessive support for person x" rule or anything like that. Really, I don't think mods can control a sub at this sort of level. The content is up to the users.

Though, if you have any ideas, let me know.

/pd/ peaked in March, when the mod team played favorites and made a "safe space" echo-chamber for people who didn't like Bernie.

That never happened, we do the same thing we've always done. My impression is that /r/pd got flooded with Hillary supporters after /r/politics went full Bernie and became hostile to anything non-Bernie. The number of subscribers skyrocketed with what seemed to be a huge majority of Clinton supporters, and the upvotes/downvotes went as you'd expect from such an event. Again, mods can't do anything about the votes.

Now you just get to enjoy your low-info, low-effort safe space.

If its low info/low effort, please report it and we will remove it.

I prefer Trump because of his ineptitude. Pence is smart enough to say the right things while eroding civil liberties. Trump would cause so many scandals that it would grind the federal government to a halt.

My hope is that Trump lasts for 3 years, so by the time Pence is in control the house are senate are again Democratic and he can't enact any absurd policies.

Unfortunately, the Senate is ridiculously hard for Democrats in 2018 (only one or two states held by Republicans look competitive, while like ten Democrats look vulnerable), and the House requires a gigantic win by Democrats to edge out even a small majority because of gerrymandering combined with natural geographic disadvantage (i.e., even if you did shortest split line or something, because Democrats inefficiently cluster in cities, you'd still end up with a Republican leaning House).
