This project will be funded on .
Rock out to your favorite records anywhere with the world’s first infinitely portable, wireless record player.
What is a prototype?
A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Functional Prototype
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Appearance Prototype
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Design Prototype
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Production Prototype
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
About this project
RokBlok is the world’s smallest wireless record player, that plays your favorite records by lightly riding on top of them. Rock out to your favorite albums anywhere, using it’s built in speakers, or wirelessly connect your favorite bluetooth speakers or headphones for a bigger sound.
To use, simply place RokBlok on top of a record and pull the lever to start playing your tunes. Hold your hand above the moving record player to stop. That’s it.
Yes, wireless! Within a range of 30 feet, RokBlok can wirelessly send music from your record to any bluetooth speakers or headphones.
Want to listen to Dylan in your bedroom? No problem. Wanna share your favorite Gil Scott Heron press with some friends at a park? Go for it. With it’s tiny profile, you can listen to your favorite records anywhere you can find a flat surface…yes, anywhere.
With it’s built in Pre-amp, Bluetooth, Speakers and Rechargeable Battery, RokBlok has everything needed to start listening to any record. Just place and play.
RokBlok was designed for current vinyl lovers, and those new to records alike. If you love vinyl, have ever been remotely interested in buying a record or two, or would just like the ability to listen to records outside of your living room, RokBlok is for you.
With working prototypes and production specs in hand, we are ready to begin mass production. However in order to reach this milestone we’ll need your help.
SheetRok is a record player that is made out of a sheet of paper, uses no electricity….and yes, it actually works! This “manual” record player works by spinning the record yourself. We are offering SheetRok as a fun reward. In addition, we will also include a random record from our personal collection with each SheetRok player. Will you get a Beatles album? Maybe Run DMC? Get your Sheetrock and find out!
Because vinyl records are awesome and the world needs new ways to enjoy them.
Pink Donut is a San Francisco based concept company, led by designer Logan Riley. We specialize in developing out of the box ideas. From 3D audio dramas, city sized board games, blinking lights and more. We have a mission to build things as awesome as they are random.
SaveRisks and challenges
With our partnership with an amazing manufacturer, that has built products for many successful Kickstarter campaigns, we’re confident in our ability to deliver the most unique vinyl player on the planet, on time. However, there is always the chance of delay. Even though we’ve been tirelessly working on the idea generation, design and prototype for RokBlok, there is always a chance of extensions in manufacturing and shipping dates. We vow to keep backers updated every step of the way.

If you scroll up, you can see (and hear) an un-edited demo of RokBlok in the “How Does it Work” video. This will give you an idea of the difference in sound between the built in speaker and the Bluetooth connection.

RokBlok’s case is made from MDF and Bamboo.

One of the major gripes people have with Kickstarter is that products do not deliver on time…if at all.
This is our first hardware project and even though we have an amazing manufacturer that has built and delivered many great successful Kickstarter products, we want to ensure we do everything right. We are taking this time to fine tune the production model, solidify our assembly and make sure that the RokBlok you get blows your mind…and that you get it on time!

Nobody likes scratched records….especially us. RokBlok has been engineered to prevent damage to your records when in use. We do this by carefully balancing and distributing the weight of the player (3.2 oz) across it’s scratch-proof rubber wheels and not the needle. This makes it so the needle does not take the brunt of the weight out on your record’s grooves.
That said, if RokBlok is not used properly, for example, operating it on an uneven or not level surface, it is possible for scratches to occur. To prevent against this, be sure to use your RokBlok as directed :)

To be frank, probably not. We’ve spent a lot of time ensuring that RokBlok sounds amazing. Using Bluetooth will give the best possible sound when using RokBlok. Most casual users likely wouldn’t notice any difference in terms of quality.
However, as any audiophile will tell you, a high end turntable with a good pre-amp and a direct line connection will bring better sound in terms of fidelity.
RokBlok was designed as a fun, casual record playing device for everyone, and not a high-end performance player. If you’re looking for something quirky that’s a bit more high end, We’d recommend checking out the Floating Record by Grammovox…that thing is amazing :)
