I think the way that Donald Trump supporters (or just trolls) overtook reddit and other traditionally left leaning internet forums this election was very important in getting him elected. It made Hillary supporters less likely to be vocal online, and generally beat down the youthful energetic voice important in democratic campaigns.
My question is this: should we be making making an effort to take over the conversation in the same way on alt-right sites spreading extreme or fake news? I think a flooding of comments that directly contradict posted articles could 1) show some of the more reasonable people the hypocrisy of what's being written 2) demotivate some of the extremists from participating in the conversation in the same way many Hillary supporters were this election. People feel emboldened when every comment they see is someone validating their beliefs.
I know there's huge logistical problems with an effort like this (i.e. /r/thedonald immediately banning dissenters) but beyond that, what do people think about the potential political effectiveness of making an effort like I described above?
