Rudiger found himself in the headlines for all the wrong reasons this week after he was racially abused by Lazio left-back Senad Lulic following a heated Rome derby.

With the Portuguese clearly unhappy at Southampton, people have been quick to point to the fact that Fonte and Jose Mourinho, the Manchester United manager, share an agent in Jorge Mendes and thus linking the two parties.

Reports in Portugal, meanwhile, have added fuel to the fire after saying Southampton were willing to let Fonte leave for £5m.

One Manchester United player who could be heading towards the exit door at Old Trafford is Anthony Martial, whose form this season has been somewhat hit and miss. 

Reports claim that Real Madrid – and possibly Barcelona – are keen on the youngster with Jose Mourinho considering a swap deal involving James Rodríguez.
