Is marriage really always bad? (self.MGTOW)

Is MGTOW anti-relationship/anti-marriage/anti-women? I'm none of those things by and large...not keen on marriage since I've seen how bad marriages can go. I don't want to be manipulated or manipulate others. It seems like some MGTOW folks think it's okay to manipulate others.

I have a girlfriend and we've been together for over a decade. We also have a kid who's awesome. She makes more than me, we have sex, and get along good. Her parents are still married and happy.

I think marriage is societal bullshit in a lot of regards but does it really matter? How would getting married really matter to me? Seem like she has more to loose than I would.

I truly wish the OP well, but his danger only varies by degree from a married man.

In any case, cohabitation-only LTRs can and do work. I have a never-married aunt that's been living with the same dude for going on 30 years. No kids. They seem to be a genuinely happy couple.

Of course marriage can be fine, just like you can survive swimming through a river full of crocodiles.

It's a gamble with terrible odds, extremely harsh penalties and usually only modest rewards.

Well you magically have a situation where you have a woman that makes more than you in salary.

So hypothetically if you two were to marry and the marriage was to end she would be liable for alimony and child support payments to you. Custody would still be in her favor since she is the mother but other wise she holds the majority of the risk in the event of a divorce. Is she keen on marriage?.. Wonder what she thinks about it since she earns more.

Based on you two being together for a decade I assume at some point she increased her salary sometime during the relationship rather than at the begging.

See society say it's ok for woman to earn less than the man but rarely it's the other way around. For a woman to take on a guy who makes less than her he has to be some amazing model like person in physique or looks. Or she probably does not look attractive thus just settles.

You say a decade..so 2006 you guys started dating.. That was an entirely different era.

The iphone 3 came out in 2008 and along followed several android phones behind it. This created convenient smartphone era which made woman's option's much more exponential as far as dating partners and options. And as you know each subsequent year more apps and functionality improved thus making dating/texting by the smartphone much more efficient and exponential more advantageous for both sexes.

So you dodged a bullet and she managed to remain loayal to you through 10 years..

But all the risk is on her since she makes more. The cards are on your side and does rarely happens in today's world.

Also you two still have sex after 10 years.. That's amazing..enjoy it dude..rare for all these things to happen and line up like you say.

Not sure if you have a unicorn but it does sound good..

Now lets see if she willing to take the risk and marry you.

If the partners are equal in income and contribution it is not necessarily bad. Especially in they are DINK. DINK couples are sometimes comprised of two individuals basically both doing their own thing but pooling resources. I suppose it must be possible with kids but I've never seen a situation I envied.

look, just because you've found a unicorn (for now), it doesn't mean that the world is filled with them. your anecdotal evidence doesn't override the vast amount of studies and statistics we discuss here from time to time.

that said, enjoy your life. you are lucky to have beaten the odds, so far, but take care of not getting to be a part of the worse of it.
