reddit always had an hard stance on doxing : that's why even r\btc that is super relaxed just about everything have to remind on the right panel that doxing isn't permitted .

sucks for nullc thou .... now he'll have to use only all the others accounts he manage .

note that reddit says :

" Suspensions can only be applied to accounts by the admins, employees of Reddit. "

so he cannot claim to be the victim of some overzealous r\btc mod .

It's possible that due to the doxing hub-hub an admin looked at his account and concluded he's using several accounts for prohibited activity, and they banned him because of that. In that case, several other socketpuppet accounts would also be freshly banned.

Ooh delicious. Could someone please analyse this for us?

Since his Wikipedia debacle he is a known master of sockpuppet accounts, so reddit can never really suspend him. He can just use some other of his at least several dozen accounts.

But there is no way for him to get a 'Greg Maxwell - Bitcoin expert' flare on his sockpuppet account(s).

True, but some "Anti-Bitcoin" flare would probably fit way better anyway

BS is tasting their own medicine, must be sweet.

LOL. And it's not even a temporary one. ("Permanent suspensions will be publicly communicated via the userpage of the affected user.")

sockpuppeting finally caught up with him?

If it's a sock you would know by checking the other sock accounts. Both/all accounts would be banned for the same amount of time. I doubt he had any socks. For example, many thought he was /u/smartfbrankings or /u/brg444, and now that is proven false - if the ban was for sockpuppetry anyway (click the links to confirm they are not banned, while /u/nullc is). No idea why people ever thought that was the case.

Yah it's obviously not Greg who does the sockpuppeting. BS outsources that stuff - it's cheap and you don't ever have to worry about it being traced to you directly.

Just because he wasn't caught with those particular ids, doesn't mean they are not his...

I can't see why this would be a problem for him. There are plenty of alternate websites he can post messages to.

[–]satoshis_sockpuppet 52ポイント53ポイント  (3子コメント)

I guess it was Adam Back who wanted to see Greg at work from time to time.

but now he'll have to deal with greg insisting for blockstream to buy reddit ! he may even go on strike .

It'd do wonders for his productivity, if you could multiply zero by any number and get more than zero.

[–]We_are_all_satoshi 7ポイント8ポイント  (0子コメント)

nullc was more of a negative, giving him zero is giving him to much credit

[–]P2XTPoolP2 XT Pool - Bitcoin Mining Pool 34

rBitcoin will say that Roger Ver paid Reddit to make it happen, I guarantee it

cough /u/smartfbrankings cough

If he was banned for sockpuppetry (not against reddit rules, but double-voting is), both accounts would be banned at the same time. So no.

Oh well, guess I'll just have to use this one.

Karma bitch!

The guy accused people of sock puppetry all the time... looks like it was projection.

This karma is so sweet I'm going to get diabetes from it :D

that's peculiar .... maybe it's due to the time an actual reddit employee took to evaluate his case ?

Reddit for big blocks!

So there is justice in the world after all!

Now wouldn't it be cool if Thymos got suspended!

This user posted a good summation of what happened: https://np.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/5glgb0/unullc_banned/dat79g2/

I'm no fan of Maxwell, but the Reddit rules for doxxing are overly strict. Mentioning someone's name in isolation, something publicly available, is not doxxing unless it's part of a larger pattern. It does not act as a call to harassment or intimidation etc.

unless it's part of a larger pattern

This is exactly the problem in this case. Dozens of times.

I think nullc's suspension has less to do with doxxing and more to do with continuous harassment and slander of certain redditor(s).

Ever since the whole spez thing, I'm sure complaints about harassment of other redditors is being taken more seriously. And you know what? This is a privately owned forum, and the admins should be able to ban whatever toxic people they want. It's their right to do so. And sometimes for a community to be healthy, you need to do some trimming and banish the shitheads.

I can understand reddit wanting a no tolerance policy as it's easier to manage than having to adjudicate it case by case. But yea there should be at least one of two criteria. Either there is obvious malicious intent, or details which were not trivially available before through a simple search (news sites, court records, etc), then there should be no tolerance. If the person isn't a well known figure and you're obviously intending to create a witch hunt, I'm fine with erring on the side of protecting the targeted person, though when its ambiguous maybe a single warning would suffice.

malicious intent

Well, he actually is the personification of malicious intent.

You know I defended him many times, despite disagreeing. I really thought that, while misguided, he had good intentions. Had a conversation with him just yesterday that showed me otherwise.

There's at least one archive of them doxing from a couple of months ago so their behavior to dox people isn't new.

The suspension looks like it could be permanent;

Suspensions can only be applied to accounts by the admins, employees of Reddit.

Suspensions can be permanent or temporary, depending on the nature of the violation and the history of the person in question.

Temporary suspensions will only be apparent to the user affected.

Permanent suspensions will be publicly communicated via the userpage of the affected user.

Umm.. why are you so sure it was doxxing?

I am not, but it is the one rule we have clear evidence of him violating. In the absence of strong evidence of him violating another rule, I assume that is the most likely explanation.

He is well known for socks. This doxxing, plus socks...

He will get a 1 day ban and told not to dox or sock. If he agrees he will be back.

There is a user profile for nullc on voat.co but it has zero activity.

Who's suspended?

nullc's reddit account has been nullified. How fitting.

No, he just got himself banned for 1 day for being an idiot.

Um, hate to break this to you Luke, but check /u/nullc's user page. That's not a mod ban, that's a Reddit suspension, and it may actually be permanent.

No, he just got himself banned for 1 day for being an idiot.

I'm sure you meant behaving like an idiot.

Do you know what rule he broke? FYI, being an idiot is not against Reddit or /r/btc rules.

/u/iuke-jr

Welcome to reddit. Why are you impersonating Luke?

Good, we need the bright people to spend their time coding and improving bitcoin instead of dealing with internet shitposters.
