I hate this line. So many times I've seen it happen where it was revealed that Trump avoided paying taxes for many years, or screwed over a small businesses owner, or duped people into attending his fake online university, and the standard response is:

It's called being a smart businessman

Using that logic, you know what else would be considered being a smart business man... conning blue collar people into believing a billionaire has their interests at heart; being elected president; lowering taxes on the wealthy; holding huge personal business interests while in office; engaging in crony capitalism; defunding all safety net programs meant to help blue collar people; etc. etc. etc.

That's called being a smart business man.

Well, yeah. Trump is a pretty good con artist, and from a certain standpoint I can definitely admire the skill, finesse and outright balls that go into a good con.

But in the real world, these scams hurt people, like the people who were robbed of their futures at Trump University. It's not the kind of behavior or mentality I want to see in my President.

Yeah exactly, I can appreciate the wolf of wall street mentality too; but people need to step back and think for a moment - is a billionaire con man suddenly going to pull a 180 given a chance to be the POTUS?

That's the standpoint from which I admire the skill and finesse of a really good con. A place where it's safe to do that, because it doesn't hurt anyone or cost anyone their college savings when you steal their money. That kind of behavior has as much place in the real world as a GTA joyride.
