I understand you must back the manager & all but Jose's tactics just aren't cutting at this point. Quite a few fans are pleased with the "more attractive" style of football but let's be real, results > style & we aren't getting them. I'm not calling for his head atm (I will wait until absolutely all hope is lost) but it seems he is simply not forward thinking enough at this stage of his career.

Purely speculation on my part but it seems that we might benefit from going to a back 3. Mou would never do it (loves his 4-2-3-1) but it seems like some of our issues are similar to Chelseas (hear me out).

3 defenders (Bailly, Jones, Smalling) would be pretty defensively solid. Swap one of those for Blind and we'd have a decent passer in there too.

Shaw and Valencia can play wingback and give the width, which would allow Martial/Mhki to take up the inside forward positions that they seem more comfortable in (they tend to drift inside anyway). Similar to Hazard and Pedro at Chelsea.

Herrera and Pogba in midfield are hardworking enough to make it work. It comes at a cost to Mata, Rooney etc but it might be an option to get the best out of some of our players (something Mou's current tactics don't seem to be doing for any of our players at all).

Mourinho's tactics are not the issue. We're handily outplaying most of our opponents this seasons. We simply aren't closing matches out. It's absolutely down to Mourinho, but he just needs to manage substitutions better and change the mentality heading into the closing minutes when we have a lead. Our defense is not good enough at the moment to chuck on a holding midfielder and protect the lead; all that does is invite pressure. We need to keep playing football, keep possession and make substitutions that allow us to do this.

Although I'm happy with Jose being here, I agree with you. I think we would've been better off in the long run if we had given him an extra year but the club wanted instant success so this is what we have

I'm not sure why you would claim Mourinho's tactics aren't working. Clearly we're playing better than under Van Gaal. Mou made substitutions to adapt to an expected barrage of aerial balls by Everton. Fellaini was brought on to deal with that pressure.

Mourinho does not control Fellaini's movements - it's upto the player to maintain composure and defend our lead. If he failed to do that, blame the player. Don't blame the manager for bringing his best option (in that situation) forward.

for the simple fact that we have 2 wins since August. It's just my opinion but I don't think Fellaini was the best option, I would have preferred Mata & also to not sit back for 20 odd mins & defend against a team the likes of Everton.
