I saw some bullshit on r/all that u/spez is cracking down on toxic users.

This seems important to post again.

Mods don't read everything. There are only a few of us. We mostly check the mod queue. REPORT anything you think needs to be looked at. We may not also agree it needs to be removed, but it will be reviewed.

Also banning trolls is something a lot of people want, but it's useless as they can just create alts. We'd rather know who the assholes are. There are exceptions where we can request a user be banned from Reddit as a whole, but at that point Admins make the final call. So light trolling isn't going to qualify.

This is a community of people with different thoughts and opinions. You're not going to like everything posted. Deal with it like adults.

Ah. My sarcasm detector wasn't working properly. Anyway, there are some really toxic users here, but they're definitely in the minority. (LOL, they'd probably hate being referred to as minorities.) I've blocked many of the most toxic users, so they've effectively been removed from the sub from my point of view, but I still see a ton of (non-toxic) users and comments.

I don't think banning users or removing comments will yield anything productive. There are a lot of hateful people on this sub, and they are encouraged to be hateful by this idea that Philly is antagonistic by nature. I think that perception is ruining this sub, and the only thing that can save it is a change in attitude, not censorship. Despite what the rest of the country might think, Philly is not an unpleasant city. This sub, however, is extremely unpleasant sometimes. I think if people here were just a little less negative from time to time, and were willing to talk to each other without ridicule, a lot would change for the better.

It is literally, by definition, censorship: the suppression of information that is deemed offensive or harmful. It's just not illegal. Reddit (via mods) can censor content on their site however they want.

This is the stupidest of any major city sub I have been on. A few idiots have basically hijacked the sub.

It's just a couple of the same right wing morons - not like smart thoughtful conservatives but juvenile The_Donald types - constantly race baiting, gay bashing and trolling and insulting people and harping on and on about how carrying guns is the best thing ever and how they want to shoot people over petty crime. Rinse and repeat.

A good old Philly fuck you is booing the Giants or the Cowboys, not being a bigoted shitheel.

The mods are getting better but I think a bunch of actual permanent bans are in order for the regular trolls and spammers.

Yes, but there are thousands of ways around that. Unless you're tying a reddit account to some form of ID people will just make new accounts, use different computers, go through a proxy, etc etc.

Honestly this is what it's boiling down to. So many of my peers can't fathom that someone under 30 doesn't hold 100% liberal views. The media has generated this false narrative that Trump supporters are all evil or some vague accusation. In reality, if you've ever posted "there" you'd know everyone is included, whether you're jewish, atheist, yes even muslim, arab, gay, lesbian, whatever. I've seen support posts from said demographics reach the top of the page there many, many times. People have been lied to by people like crooked and her friends and some of us have woken up, many have not. Are there racists etc. ? Most likely, as there are on the left side too. Most of us do not support that behavior.

I'm fine with a little abrasive humor from time to time, but I think local trolls really gravitate to this sub as a showcase for their shitty, neckbeard attitudes, because they think being a dick is "just a Philly thing." I'd be in favor of banning serial trolls and people who deliberately try to pick fights and cause conflict. Phillypede and go_green are two examples that come to mind. If the rest of the members of an otherwise friendly and helpful community see certain actors as consistently and deliberately toxic, it's within reason to request the gatekeepers deny access to disruptors.

Pretty ridiculous that the same 3 or 4 users find it necessary to voice their opinion, usually multiple times, in every single thread.
