The January transfer window on /r/reddevis - Your opinions (self.reddevils)

Hi guys,

We're almost in December and rumours will soon start to fly about January transfers.

In every single transfer window with this subreddit we've done daily transfer threads for all unreliable chat, with reliable stuff getting their own threads.

As January windows are typically quieter, how would you guys like the window to be approached on the subreddit? I'm thinking these options are available -

  • Keep the usual rules. Transfer thread every day, shit gets removed, reliable posts are fine

  • Same as above but a thread only every 1-3 days. Keeps discussion topics alive but threads also get boring quickly.

  • No transfer threads at all, but still shit gets removed, reliable stuff only to be posted. If its unreliable, its not up for discussion (This will include low-effort self-posts)

  • Total free for all, unreliability is allowed to be posted for discussion regardless of the source. (Excluding low effort self posts which will always be removed)

  • Any other suggestion

Let me know what you all tihnk and we can see whats popular.

Talk of John Obi Mikel. A mediocre midfielder - but better than our current selection in Fellaini + Basti. Replaces Carrick (but not Ander) when he can't play and gives us more depth. Would be a smart signing for a longer term option and could be really good to pick him up in Jan.

I think the regular rules are the only way to keep the shitshow to a minimum. It is already starting. There have been a dozen "I think we should go after (insert unavailable galactico or FIFA monster) because my opinion is so important" threads this week. It will only get worse when the shit journalists start making up players were linked to in earnest.

Have threads on all days except game and post-game days? Game days will generally be dominated with the build up, and post game day threads would become highly reactionary.

Personally I dont think there is anything wrong with the rules the problem is the people that dont stick to them

  • Daily transfer threads are fine I just think they need to be put up at a different time, maybe midday to midday. The problem with it now by the time the morning comes along there is 100 posts in the tread from discussions overnight and the thread has died by the time the day starts.

  • Transfer tiers are going to need looking at and maybe Im alone in this but MEN needs banning for the whole month. Aside from the shite they are spewing about the lineups they just go into complete mong mode during the windows.

  • ESPN may actually become a good source of news. Mark Ogden has taken over as senior sports writer and we all know his links to the club. With him just starting they Id be shocked if he didnt try to go whole hog in this window to get some serious exclusives. With that in mind in Pete O'Rourke keeps his job (And Id be surprised if he does) hes needs auto deleting. The guy is as bad as any other twitter poster.

  • the only other thing that annoys me during the window is the two main comments we get by the negative crowd. We have a tier system for a good reason but I can guarentee that any post by Ducker, Sky sports sources, Ogden or Jackson that is not what the people want to hear will get 20 posts of "THEY HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT". Similarly there is no need to go on to a transfer rumor post and say "I DONT BELIEVE ANYTHING UNTIL THE CLUB ANNOUNCE IT".

In my opinion, what the team needs the most right now is a real striker, someone who can create his own chances and who's fast and clinical, that's Icardi for me. Other posts (CB and DM) are not that urgent really as we're not conceding that much of goals even with injuries, so that's for the summer.
