Changes that should be made to reddit for ranking /r/all results
• Change the /r/all algorithm so posts are ranked within a subreddit partly based on proportion of "votes per minute" relative to its subreddit. If this gets implemented then these subreddits will be forced to self moderate more because upvoting everything would actually hurt their ability to reach /r/all more than it helps.
As I've documented previously, subreddits that are focused around upvoting everything in an attempt to spam /r/all have an absurd votes/min stat.
Note: This wouldn't be able to address them hijacking other subs to shitpost, but it will decrease the leverage they gain from mass upvoting on their main subs.
• Reddit admins has stated before that banned users votes do not affect a submissions score. Due to the rise of these "safe space" subreddits, this needs to be changed. Either have the votes only affect the /r/all ranking or remove it entirely.
• Provide tools to report posts or comments to the admins, not the mods so users can more easily report instances where users are violating site wide rules. Make abuse of this tool result in not being able to use it and make a karma/participation threshold and a verified email to use it in the first place.
Implement and enforce basic moderation standards for subs in order to be allowed onto /r/all
• Make banning for simply having a civil dissenting opinion against the rules and encourage mods to keep better evidence for reasons of banning so they can provide evidence that users weren't unjustly banned by the subreddit.
Note: This needs to be enforced on more of a class action level, not a case by case. Mods shouldn't have to be made to fight every individual ban, but if on a larger scale this is happening it should be enforced. This should also exclude accounts with little to no activity on them or under a karma threshold (set by the admins).
• Make quality control a basic responsibility for moderators when it comes to spamming the same content over and over in an attempt to flood frontpage or /r/all.
Note: Again, something that should require continuous offense. Not single instances which just occasionally happen on subs during big events.
• Disallow any CSS modifications that hide or disable basic subreddit functions like voting or comments to unsubscribed members.
Note: Displaying messages or tooltips that say things like "Please read the rules before commenting / voting" or something like that should be fine, so long as they can still perform that function.
• Limit the number of link posts that can be stickied per day to a reasonable amount and make it so only 1 of the 2 stickies can be link posts.
Note: Internal links to other parts of the subreddit should be excluded from this rule. So linking to your own subs wiki page is okay.
