Hahahaha this community in a nutshell too. Top notch post

All get screwed over and one crappy update later everyone forgot how they were screwed. And this is why preorders will never die. Too many idiots on this planet.

Yup.

I'm still surprised by the response to this update. By no way does this update address the issues people have with this game or the bullshit communication both pre and post release.

Seamless universe?

Lol no.

So you're still inside one area of limited space that you started the game in and can never leave (hyperdrive just puts up loading screen "curtains" while assets get re-arranged)?

Lol ya.

Centre of galaxy?

Lol fuck no.

Creature AI and...purpose?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Space is constantly and inexplicably LITTERED with asteroids?

Listen we screwed up our game design and this is the work around. What do you want us to do?

Better maneuverability and low terrain flying?

Lol no. Here's some drifting instead.

What's drifting going to do?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

NPC's feeling lifeless and don't move around?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Incredibly simple combat with no physicality or challenge?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Better water systems than just a global layer?

Lol no.

Any physics mechanics whatsoever other than a fucking ball that rolls down hills?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Approachable stars?

Lol no.

Space stations that vary?

Lol no.

A point to atlas passes other than the illusion of progression?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Better suit or movement options?

Lol no.

...so, what DID you change?

You can auto mine, base build and freighter build!!!! :D

Um that's cool but instead of giving us things we didn't originally buy the game for, can you talk about things you DID promise?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

...

...

...multipla-?

OMG AMAZING SO MANY OF YOU ARE PLAYING MY GAME NOW!! :O

Sigh ok. Well luckily your fanbase isn't going to let this shit sli-

OMG THEY DID IT!! THE MADMEN!!! THEY ACTUALLY DID IT!! I ALWAYS BELIEVED!! I ALWAYS BELIEVED! THIS IS WHAT IVE ALWAYS DREAMED OF!!!! SEAN SENPAI TOUCH ME!!! MU-RRAY! MU-RRAY! MU-RRAY!

.......

Next patch: the ability to feed animals and have them poop resources! :D

NO MAN'S SKY!! NO MAN'S SKY!! NO MAN'S SKY!! NO MAN'S SKY!!

.....jesus fucking christ.

:D

Ok so, at the very least is planet rotation a thing now? Because even though the game clearly doesn't have star systems that make sense in any way, you DID say it was a feature that was "switched off" so it should be pretty easy to switch back on (in the 99 days since release...) and there is a lot of demand for it.

Lol no.

As much as everything you point out is true, im still happy they bothered updating it at all. Having some more feature isnt going to make the game worse. I already bought it and im stuck with the game, might as well get some extra content from it, at this point. Aint going to say no to that, i cant lose anything from it.

Sunk cost fallacy: don't waste more time on a game that isn't worth your time or money. Playing it validates the post-release "fix" strategy.

Well, if they keep adding things to NMS, it can eventually be a good game worth playing.

How do you find time to play games when you're so busy playing yourself?

Playing a game in the hope that it will someday be worth playing is the saddest gameplay loop of all.

wow.this is so accurate! Wish i could give you gold.

That is legit one of the best posts about anything I've ever read.

Didn't you hear, suddenly Sean is worthy of all praise again and anybody not rushing to worship NMS again gets downvoted.

I remember how much utter trash Hello Games treated everybody, and this update doesn't undo the massive MASSIVE mountain of lies they built.

But go ahead everybody, so quickly adopt an "all's forgiven, we love you HG" approach.

Lmao it's pathetic. People talking about rebuying the game over one update which doesn't even solve the issue of nothing to do. Build a base? For what? No real enemies, the AI is terrible, no multiplayer or player content, just a Barbie sandbox simulator.

Wait, there's boobs in the update? /s

Just look at the comments under Sean's 2 tweets today they are unbearable

I guess they are buying it for this update and in the hope that there will be more to come and Hg has not abandoned them

At least you can do the old Spore spice empire thing now, assuming this update even runs well.

Only reason I played spore so much was caravaning from planet to planet setting up spice generators to fuel my galactic buy out. I can see how this update helps with my play style.

Does it not to a certain extent? "Hey we've been silent for 3 months here's a huge update" sounds a lot better then more silence, or an end to the silence with nothing to show.

I agree, I'm probably never buying a game from them again, but it's still nice to get more content at least.

[–]Raineko [

If the game becomes good later, who gives a shit if it was terrible once? People take this way too personal ("They took my 60 dollars!").

As long as it doesn't cost anything, I'm sure as hell gonna play it.

I literally still have no desire to put my disc back in my ps4 with this update. It's too little far too late.

Exactly. I mean most shitty early access games have base building more in-depth than what they showed us with these massive voxel-based buildings but people are somehow praising it since they've been so deprived of any updates at all.

[–]i_want_to_believe__ 2ポイント3ポイント  (0子コメント)

It's a good thing there's another quintilian to explore!

Not a crappy universe. This game is currently well worth the $35 price tag.

Still a little salty about the $60 I paid post release (PS4, no pre-order) and all the hype, but I'm willing to take a wait and see approach. Meanwhile I am enjoying the hell out of the new content this fine sunday morning.

I like this kinda game, sinking countless hours into Factorio and Stardew, this is a nice break to swing back to the PS4

Shit has nothing to do with pre orders.

I want to forget about it, and that's why it will work

Well objectively speaking you can avoid the update b/c of their acting or you can get it and enjoy it. Your choice.

We should consider No Man's Sky as an early access

Sold at the price of an AAA game (not anymore)

Though the AAA standard nowadays means expensive DLC, so it's more like the game sold at the price of a AA game.

So like star citizen or elite when it was in early access

Yeah except those games have content

Both games had less content than NMS in pre release.

Elite dangerous released with bare bones trading between stations and star citizen released with hanger mode (walk around an look at ships)

I can't speak for Elite as I haven't played it but you can follow Star Citizen through all its development stages. The devs actually tell people what is being added/removed and don't stay silent. You can even play for free some weekends(which I have and loved it).

Except E:D hyped itself up as being some action paced space sim full of endless possibilities yet it was completely barebones on release, they the devs had the nerve to release an early access expansion season pass with more gimmicky features instead of fixing the base game.

Frontier ruined my love for early access and kickstarter games, hell, E:D and NMS has caused me to ignore any game that uses "procedual generation" as its main form of content generation (at least the Star Citizen devs have the right idea in how to use it properly).

Devs were upfront about the release model since the beginning. It was on their Kickstarter. Despite this people still misunderstood and interpreted it as the devs lying.

Look at how E:D is advertised compared to the actual game.

Second, im pretty sure Wings and PowerPlay were meant to come out BEFORE release (I mean seriously, who adds a party system to an online game AFTER release?), and people didnt expect the game be so broken and bare at the time of Horizon's announcement. Thats like buying a car and its missing airbags, a stereo and the backseats but theyre trying to sell you a body kit and rally parts with the promise that the rest of the features that was missing will come in time.

To me, it felt like Frontier did the ABSOLUTE BARE MINIMUM just to say they met their "goals" and hasnt bothered to fix them and are sticking to their DLC plan thinking no one hasnt noticed the issues of the game. Frontier are INCREDIBLY out of touch and have no clue what theyre doing, even one of the ex-devs laughed when people asked him about "Braben's clear design goals".

Frontier either have no clue what theyre doing, or theyre genuinely a scummy company (probably both) and I actually wish I could refund E:D.

Lol wtf kind of logic is that. Pre-release? That's like saying NMS had less content when it was being developed.

The start of the thread says "We should consider No Man's Sky as an early access". An early access game is a game in development.

They literally built the foundation after they sold the house and had the new tenants move in.

If NMS was released as an 20-30 dollar Early Access game with a roadmap communicated to the players they would have not been in this position. Instead of working with the players and their trust they went with sony's money instead and this what it got them.

It think it's okay to forgive, but not forget. That being said, this won't redeem them alone, but i think it's fair for people to lay down their hatred for a while and enjoy the update, as there are many people that like or want the game to improve because it holds potential.

Don't ever per-order again from them, but good free updates aren't something to complain about.

This.
We can forgive but we should not forget. At least we know they are really working on NMS and are not on a vacation like everybody said.

[–]Ukani 9

Yeah. I think this update looks great, and I give them credit for actually working hard on the game the past 3 months, but Im still going to hold off on buying it until Sean or someone gives some sort of explanation as to why the lied about things like multiplayer and missing gameplay mechanics. I just really dont want to set a precedent where its ok for companies to lie to consumers as long as they eventually make a good product.

I just want an explanation. I dont even care if its just a short 3-5 paragraph blog post. I just want something. Anything to show that they aren't ignoring the issue, and that they are aware of their shitty behavior the past 3 months.

[–]Njagos 6

Even if they would explain themselves... companies will do it in the future again. The customers are at fault for preordering.

I really hope they are going to write an apology letter, but right now they have to focus on getting more updates.

I mean, they aren't forgiven in my mind because they still haven't delivered the base experience they promised.

Of course, some will never forgive them, and that's fine. It wasn't an accident this happened after all. For me, i think generally, they should be given another chance, if they can prove that this game can be turned around for the better. Just don't buy into hype again, if they ever release another game, and pre-order.

No, conform to the circle-jerk! Don't actually care about getting something good in the end.

[–]WHERE_MY_COUNTRY_GO -2ポイント-1ポイント  (4子コメント)

Something good in the end? If I fucked your wife, but you end up with a healthy baby boy, you'd be happy? No qualms about the prior deceit and screw over?

That's a really weird analogy that doesn't make much sense.

He posts in /r/the_donald. You really can't expect much out of those people other than shitty memes and a cuckolding fetish.

That doesn't even compare. This is like you giving someone $60 and only getting part of what you paid for as the seller disappears for a while, until he returns with a gift that is labeled as the start of more to come to make up for things. This is only the FOUNDATION update. That means we have a whole building left to receive.

I agree with all of this. Remember, there are many who are angry that they have now been proven wrong when they said there would be no future updates and that Sean and the team had run off with the money they made. There are others who, for whatever reason, want to see the game fail. Some of those people never wanted it to succeed from the get-go. This update is a very small step towards making amends, and I'm certain they know how long of a road it's going to be to getting there.

[–]Rootner [

The only problem is this update will cost me $60 to play.

[–]Scofco 0

I won't forgive until he properly explains what the fuck they have been doing and begs for my forgiveness. Same way I'd treat anyone that stole $60 from my wallet.

Ah, sounds like you're prepared for Foundation 2.0, $30 DLC thank you very much.

The amount of people who are quick to forgive Hello Games fucking astounds me.

I dunno, I mean, as much as we were all disappointed about broken promises with this game, we should all take a step back ever so often and realize that it's just that. A game.

No, you dont forgive them just because "its just a game bro". Hello Games LIED about the game they were selling and DECEIVED the fans into thinking theyre getting a game they were showing off. In the end they got something completely different and then when quiet, hell one of the devs ended up leaving.

Now they release an update that adds more grind to the game and a few gimmicky features and now everyone is back to praising them again? Theyre setting themselves up to be burnt again.

I think they just fucked up, to be honest. I don't buy the whole notion that they went in to sell a game that wasn't going to include a lot of things they said it would. I think they exaggerated some things and that they should've had an actual PR guy instead of Sean who was terrible in interviews and pressure. He was charismatic, but didn't know how to handle tough questions so he just cracked. My impression at least

I think it's stupid for people to believe the people at Hello Games are just a bunch of con artists. It's fine to be angry about the money you spent for something you didn't get, but try to think about both sides here. They obviously didn't take our money and run. They've been working the past few months to get this patch out, so give them at least a little credit. Should they've completely gone silent after release? No, probably not a good idea, but they're a small team and I'm sure they realized they fucked up and thought that anymore communication from Sean could just make shit worse

I mean the game was mostly what I thought it was going to be. Maybe not as grand and I got bored of it quicker than I thought I would, but you're making this shit sound like watergate.

I spent $60 on a game that wasn't as good as I'd hoped. I've done that before and I'll do it again, I'm sure.

This type of attitude is the only thing burning HG anymore.

[–]Whoamiii [

I think he/she can forgive them and enjoy the game for whatever reason they want. I don't care for the update and refunded the game when the whole multiplayer bullshit came out. I made my choice not to support them, some people own the game and enjoyed it and want to continue playing it, big fucking deal.

[–]born_again_atheist [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Wait you refunded that game because you didn't have the ability to look at another person in game? Because that's all the "multiplayer" you were ever going to get from NMS, as Sean said in many interviews.

It's not "just a game", it's a product that cost $60. Anybody who was duped for that is right to be mad, that's a lot of money for some people.

Being this mad probably does more than $60 worth of damage to your health

To be fair, there is a major difference for games. They can be patched and fixed and changed. Still leaving you only paying $60. If you go to wal mart and buy a $60 coffee maker, you can only repair it. Sure it might have all of the features you were promised, but thats all it ever will have. A game, even if it fell short at first, can still achieve that promise eventually, and then even surpass it and be more than promised. All without ever having to pay more.

Case in point is Minecraft (It was all it was promised to be). But for that same $25 I spent 4 years ago, it's gained even more features and updates, and I haven't paid a cent.

So it's ok to be mad when it doesn't meet expectations, but it could eventually get there, and you are allowed to forgive. Unlike a coffee maker, where if it doesnt meet them, you really are shit out of luck unless you return it.

Nothing that needed forgiving (for me)

A silly thought, if you're so untrusting/fed up with them, why are you here?

More or less I pop in every so often for the shitposting and drama. But when I heard there was an actual game update, i came to see how fast people would defend NMS and Hello Games again.

And people are really liking the update too. I'm astonished people still have the game. It was complete garbage and base building and updating the physical appearance doesn't give the game any purpose, doesn't allow for multiplayer encounters, or get anywhere close to the pre release trailer. They could get there, but they shouldn't have released the game at the price they did, until it was comparable to what they promised.

I hope people enjoy it, but I'm done.

They don't think anyone should be allowed to enjoy it if they refuse to.

Yeah, everyone seems pretty quick to forget what they did. pretty saddening that Hello Games have gotten away with treating their customers like shit.

Gotten away with it? They've been getting destroyed by people for months.

I don't even understand the point of the main part of the update - base building. I mean, there's nothing to do on planets (or anywhere else to be honest). Why build a base? What would you do with it?

My question is why would you stay on one planet long enough to need a base when the "object" of the game is to planet-hop to the center of the galaxy?

My guess, it'll be a place to return to to store rare resources you don't have use for now while still having them available and having extra inventory space. They could possibly be used for much more as well.

Yeah but...say you build a base and store some resources in it, then hop 15 planets away...are you going to go all the way back to your base to get those resources, or simply farm new ones (which are plentiful)?

Edit: Hop not hope, but I guess you could hope 15 planets away that Sean Murray responds to fans.

[–]born_again_atheist [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

This is a foundation update. Which means more to come, probably they will add more reasons/incentive to build a base. Besides people asked for base building so they got it.

This.. I was pretty pissed at launch, but this update gives me a slight bit of hope. I've screwed around a bit in creative mode, and it seems like a solid update. The portals are so useful too.

[–]Larkas 7

Some people want to be angry for the sake of being angry. This update is actually a nice step in the right direction and a lot of people think the same way. Angry people will always see it as a full on forgiveness which it is not.

Of course there are still problems that I think need to be adressed, but now at least I can have more hope for better things.

this update gives me a slight bit of hope.

Well, you're foolish.

[–]Jezio 9

And you've either never tried out the update or an idiot to think that this free update didn't improve the game. I was on the fuck sean murray and hello games bandwagon since a week after launch too. Shut up and try it, don't call me a fool for liking the update just because you don't.

Devs spouting lies and selling an unfinished game at AAA prices....so it should be bloody free.

Wait. The portals work now?

[–]Jezio 1

You gotta set a home beacon at your base. You can use it to teleport between space stations and other bases that you've established a teleport link to.

but this update gives me a slight bit of hope.

The smallest bit, but yeah it's there. If they actually start communicating about all the other shit (which I HIGHLY doubt) then I'll actually start feeling positive about the game again.

I'm honestly amazed at how many people have forgotten what HG did overnight.

You don't forgive the guy who mugged you just because he gave you a stick of gum afterward.

[–]Linard 7

They apparently did a huge amount of work since release to deliver is update, but why the hell did they not once talked about it?

If they would at least have said that they are working on a large content patch like this with updates about the progression over the last months I would guess the backslash to the game would have turned out milder

They said exactly that. "We're focusing on updates for a while and will be quiet. We're going to act instead of speak". They said this in September.

They apparently did a huge amount of work since release to deliver is update, but why the hell did they not once talked about it?

Maybe because the community has such an intense hatred for Sean Murray and HG, that anything he says would be drowned out in more hatred and spicy memes?

I mean, a single tweet that says "We're snowed under working on an update. We'll give you more info when it's ready." would have gone leagues towards improving relations. Also a "sorry we lied to you" would have been nice.

Also a "sorry we lied to you" would have been nice.

That probably has a lot of legal ramifications that would open them wide open for a lawsuit. I agree, at this point, an apology is due. But unless that apology is cleared by a lawyer, it's not going to happen.

That probably has a lot of legal ramifications that would open them wide open for a lawsuit.

I mean, not lying to your customers in the first place also removes the possibility of a lawsuit.

I agree, but unless you have a time machine that HG can use, that really has nothing to do with the current line of conversation.

What is the fucking point of the update. So you can build a base cool, why? What about the story? What about the ending is that all the same? Pointless game. There are other base builder games with actual strategy and devs that care about the players. HG can eat a uncooked Cornish game hen from a cooked turkeys butt.

here's what people don't get. for HG to come out with the game they initially promised, they'd need AT LEAST a year of working. Do people really think they're gonna work for free? Of course not. You bet your ass they're gonna have paid dlc in about +3 months. Just wait.

They aren't working for free, they were already paid upfront. My guess would be they acknowledge this, at least internally. But yeah if they do run out of money they will have no choice I guess.

[–]WHERE_MY_COUNTRY_GO -1ポイント0ポイント  (1子コメント)

Which is understandable. But why all the lies?

Because they know they can get away with it. Look at this sub now.

Can't wait to see all the broken features in the update and performances impact that will come with the building of the bases

I played NMS for a week or two after I bought it on release day. I haven't been interested enough to play it since.

I know this update is supposed to make me interested again, but I'm just not. I'm really just annoyed that so few issues were addressed, and I wish I could have my 60 bucks back from Xbox to use on Steam.

its fucking sad how stupid people can be to rebuy this bullshit. Fucking delusional Sheep especially the assholes over at r/nomanshigh

Breaking news...Gamers are fickle.

You cant?

Dude, this is the ONLY way to handle such a situation.

Yes, everyone wants more info if shit goes down. Everyone wants the Dev of a broken/unfinished game to go "Shit folks sorry we are fixing it".

And thats exactly what we got. A "Gonna fix it, hold tight", and then silence.

Silence because there was no combination of letters that could potentially improve the situation for the community. Nothing they could have said would have helped.

The only thing that works is fixing the shit. And this takes time.

They haven't actually fixed it yet.

How many hours have you spend with the patch?

enough to know the game doesn't resemble the promo videos and looks more like the same old shit but with some home building junk

So. None. Kay, gotcha, you are just here to rage, and all the traffic the sub is generating today made you come over to shitpost.

Carry on. ^

are you saying that it looks like the promo videos then ?

or are you here just to defend the shitty practices of shitty game developers?

Mate, nobody with a brain gives a fuck about Promo videos from games.

Its marketing. These videos almost never reflect the actual game. See: Every game shown at E3, Ever.

A sincere apology for lying might have helped? Not in all cases of course, there are some people who are just desperate for things to be mad about to fill their empty lives, but reasonable people who were angry for good reasons would have been mollified I think.

I agree, but have come to realize you are screaming into the void. This update could have been every single item that has been missing since launch in addition to fifty new features and those that want to be negative will still be negative. All you can do is enjoy what you can out of the new update and hope more improvements and additions come in the future. Reddit has long since been a horrible place to go to for bonding when it comes to gaming, other than pointing you to places that are.

Next thing you know there will be DLC for only £29.99

I expect the hate to be even more intense for a little while as all the miserable little shits with nothing else to do with their time lash out at the idea of NMS actually surviving and becoming something more people enjoy. Sucks to be them~

..or.. maybe...

Some of us are just happy the game they bought is actually worth playing and still regard HG with a good deal of skepticism?

It's a step forward to adding the promised content and make No Man's Sky the game we all hoped for.

I can have fun and never forget at the same time.

Oh anyone know how you put up ladders, can't get them to stick to anything.

[–]i_never_use_caps 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

question to anyone currently playing, as i will be away from my playstation for a couple days: can i use a current save to play survival? or do i have to start a new character for it?

Is this update procedural too?

Now seriously, doesn't improve the game at all, if still there isn't nothing to do in the friggin game we can't be happy for this. Also, if they were making this "mayor" update why they were so assholes to communicate with their costumers?

Fuck this ton of shit game alpha version they have launched at a cost of $60 friggin buckssssssssssssssss

I mean, 90 days of nothing, then we have an update that has mayor modifications on the "final product" they already have launched back then 3 months ago (!???!?!?!?!). Come onnnnnnn people.

edit :grammar

My graphics card choose the wrong time to shit the bed. Oh well, I guess I'll be trying this out in a week or two - I'm cautiously optimistic that they're actually gonna start rebuilding trust and reliability this time, mind. Free updates when it could basically be DLC means the initial price tag is a bit easier to swallow.

Game was bad before. It's still bad, but better than before. This is a good thing.

I know some of you will never be happy until the game becomes what it was promised to be, but guess what, that day will never come.

You don't have to forget what happened to enjoy what you have now, and let's be honest - the guy swindled you out of $70. It's not the end of the world.

It's still bad, but better than before.

Early access games in a nutshell.

Everyone is crawling back already I am super surprised after the last few months.

Can't wait to see the fall out from this patch as well.

The bag of money is a nice touch.

um how can you know for sure he didn't just add all the features he promised, did you explore all 19 quintillion planets? /s

Give it some time maybe they will surprise us

with the game they initially promised?

If Hello Games has taught me anything it's don't get your hopes up

Sure, it'll just be a few years, that's all.

That biggest plot twist of them all.

actually, initially I was surprised. Now I'd say they need to impress me.

I payed $60 for an unfinished game so I honestly couldn't give half of a shit whether or not they talk to us and communicate, I want the game that I payed for. This update definitely sheds light on the possibility that we will eventually get what we want, I'm ok for waiting. Sucks for the people who got refunds on PSN, you will never experience any of what the future may hold for NMS.

They could just buy the game when it's finished. If it gets finished. At a lower price.

who forgot about or forgave them for the lies and missing features? anyone? i think we all still want them to make up for that. it's one thing to retain healthy skepticism. it's another to hold a grudge.

if you wanna stay angry that's fine but i'm curious to check out the new features.

anyone?

I mean, there's been posts all over this subreddit and several others.

I understand that the majority of us still have our asses chapped raw because of HG, and the shit game they put out initially. Me fucking included. I'm still pissed about spending $60 for that pile of garbage.

But it seems that some of you just won't be happy no matter what. This is a huge patch, and proof that HG hasn't just been sitting on their asses. Do I believe that this patch is "One of many" like the trailer says? ...Not exactly. I'm cautiously optimistic, but I'm not exactly taking it at face value, and I'm certainly not re-buying the game because of it just yet. Same as many of us here.

But there are some of you here that are screeching about shit that's not in the patch, and completely writing off the whole thing because of it. Holy shit. They couldn't put everything in there. Just fucking hold tight and see what happens after the patch, jesus christ. It's okay for HG to redeem themselves, and at least attempt to fix all the shit they promised.

But they could have come out with a blogpost or something apologizing for the lies/missing features.

They could have, but I think we can both agree that time for apologies, or really any kind of communication is too far gone. At least for now. People are still pissed. And any kind of direct communication with the community, no matter what it is, will certainly be met with spite, venom, toxicity, sprinkled with death threats and spicy memes.

Well shit, looks like he did release a tweet. Nevermind. Yeah, an apology is in order.

Nice meme.

You can make mistakes up, but it takes time and a lot of effort. We are not there yet!

I mean, there's still a shit load of people who don't have the game anymore.
