Educational Objective

The era where we are heading for is that of reading the situation precisely and action proactively. Originally, there are no absolute "ordinary circumstances" that is no influenced by the history and culture around us. Please re-question the rules of the tangible and intangible, which having restrained yourself. In order to obtain the skills to live flexibly, proactively and independently, we focus on "understanding by approaching from my own" the related subjects that sociology is the backbone. Whatever you live in any positions, we aim to foster the human who can think on his/her own and express an opinion in his/her own words.

Outline

We provide the opportunities to approach on the study and research of various subjects of related filed that the sociology is backbone, to know the structure and history of the family, region, organization and environment, investigate by oneself and ponder the problems with the relationships between the environment/society and the individual with a global point of view.

In addition, we are providing the place to study proactively directly touching the most updated research outcomes, by offering the seminars from the freshmen. After broadening the viewpoints based on the characteristics of sociology which has wide fields of studies, students will focus on their own subject of research and start the graduation thesis respectively. It could be said that this is the most suitable department for the person to heighten himself or herself proactively and independently.

Characteristics

Different from other department of the Faculty of Sociology, submission of graduation thesis (graduation research) is compulsory. Here, you will be requested to derive a social fact through the investigation and reading writings and documents based on your own problem interest and to summarize the sociological issues from your own perspective. Experiencing such "birth pains" is a very vital regardless of the courses of living after graduation. You will be able to feel that the university life was meaningful, if you discover the originality of your research activities making great use of the discussions, advices and guidance with/from your colleague and teachers of the seminar.

これからの時代は、状況を正確に読み、積極的に行動することが問われる時代です。もともと私たちの身の回りには、歴史と文化の影響を受けない不動の「当たり前」など存在しません。自分たちを拘束している有形無形のルールを問い直してください。柔軟、能動的かつ主体的に生きる能力を身につけるため,社会学を基幹とした関連諸科目を「自分で動いて理解する」ことを重視します。どのような立場で生きるにあたっても、自分でものを考え、自分の言葉で意見を表明できる人間を育成することを目指しています。

概要

社会学を基幹として周辺分野の諸科目の学習・研究に触れ、家族、地域、組織、環境などの歴史や構造や問題をよく知り、自分で調査し、環境や社会と個人の関係がもつ問題をグローバルな視野をもって徹底的に考え抜く機会を提供します。
また、1年次から演習科目を開講し、最新の研究成果に直接触れながら積極的に学ぶ場を提供しています。研究対象が広い社会学の特色を踏まえて視野を広げた後に、自らの研究対象を絞り、卒業論文に取り組むことになります。能動的、自主的に自分を高めたい人には、最適な学科といえるでしょう。

特色

社会学部の他学科と異なり、卒業論文(卒業研究)が必修となっています。ここでは自らの問題関心を基に文献や資料の解読、調査を通して社会的事実を導き出し、独自の視点からその社会学的課題をまとめることが求められます。こうした「生みの苦しみ」を経験することは、卒業後の進路の如何を問わず大変重要なことであり、ゼミの仲間や教員との議論や助言・指導を活かし、自らの研究活動の独自性を発見することができれば、大学生活が有意義であったと確信できるでしょう。
