Let me start this post off by saying I love Michael Carrick. He's one of my favorite United players of all time, and he's been fantastic for us. It's clear that when he plays, he improves our play throughout the pitch, and makes a huge difference.
I hope, and it seems by all means that Carrick will be getting an extension throughout the end of next season. That's amazing, and I'm happy about it, but I feel as if we need to find someone who can replace him for the future. Obviously let Carrick play his games, as he is so valuable, but look for someone who can perform in a Carrick-like role and help the team, especially with Pogba.
I'm not the most knowledgable when it comes to other leagues, but I've got to imagine that there's a few players who could do a great job filling Carrick's role. Julian Weigl of Dortmund comes to mind, however I feel as if almost every top club in Europe will want him. Others options, I would think, could be Verratti, Tielemans, or maybe someone from England such as Lewis Cook? (Not saying Cook himself, just someone of a similar caliber.
I was just wondering everyone's thoughts on the matter. Personally I believe Weigl would be a good choice, but I think it's very important that we look to find the "next Carrick," or someone who can at least do a proper job in the position.
