I Don’t Ever Want to Hear Another Fucking Thing about Hillary’s Fucking Emails
Trump’s National Security Advisor:
Flynn broke rules he thought were stupid. He once told me about a period he spent assigned to a C.I.A. station in Iraq, when he would sometimes sneak out of the compound without the “insane” required approval from C.I.A. headquarters, in Langley, Virginia. He had technicians secretly install an Internet connection in his Pentagon office, even though it was forbidden. There was also the time he gave classified information to nato allies without approval, an incident which prompted an investigation, and a warning from superiors. During his stint as Mullen’s intelligence chief, Flynn would often write “This is bullshit!” in the margins of classified papers he was obliged to pass on to his boss, someone who saw these papers told me.
Fuck the media. Fuck Chris Cilizza. Fuck the Republicans. Fuck Flynn. And fuck Trump.
Fuck Trump? Trump fucked us. We’re fucked.
Happy Fucksgiving!
@Smedley Darlington Prunebanks (Formerly Mumphrey, et al.):
True, but we can keep screaming about it for the next four years. That’s what I intend to do. Don’t let him think he’s beloved. Protest, scream, yell, sign petitions, etc., etc., etc.
But he hates Muslims, and, more importantly, despises the uppity black interloper who had the temerity to fire him for loving his country too much. Therefore, it is all good.
All hail the United States of Nazi America.
Stuff like this wouldn’t have stopped people from voting for Trump before the election.
But if the press keeps hitting these stories about how duplicitous, how hypocritical, how borderline evil these people Trump is assembling to run the country really are, about how he lied about not running up the debt or about rounding up all the illegals and driving them on a bus to Juarez, about being the most “ethical” administration in history—I really believe the Senate and the House members who really deeply oppose him for all kinds of reasons will have the ammunition to do the things it needs to block his decisions. Even though National Security Advisor is not a confirmable post, we all saw what happened in past administrations that tried to appoint people Congress didn’t want–even their own parties went against them, knocking the President’s choices out.
There’s a lot of buyer’s remorse flames out there to fan, folks. These stories are just the beginning of the taking down of and corrupt regime.
@Ella in New Mexico:
If you think Trump pays any attention to The New Yorker . . . .
So, per the article, Flynn is “a plucky Irish Catholic kid from Rhode Island,” While Hillary, on the other hand, is “secretive,” “flawed,” and plagued by “clouds and shadows.” Why the different characterization, do you suppose?
Give me female for $200, Alex.
ETA: Grrrrr.
I can’t think of one single positive thing to say about Trump, or his business career, or his candidacy, or his family, or his transition, or any of the people he’s selected for Cabinet-level or advisory positions.
Not a single one.
Take that story (which hasn’t been reported nearly as much as it should have been, about Don Trump Jr meeting in Paris last month (so, before the election) with pro-Russian activists on the subject of Syria.
The corporate media should be all over this. Can you imagine, if Chelsea Clinton had done something like this just weeks before the election?
@Ella in New Mexico:
I know. They were screaming, “Lock her up!” about Clinton for doing a lot less than this, but my guess is that they won’t have fuck-all to say about this. It’s different, you know. Why, you ask? Because, shut up, that’s why!
And I think you may be right about this. The one thing that may save us, I’m thinking more and more every fucking day, is that Trump cannot help himself. He can’t help it. He’s going to choose the corruptest shitbags he can find, and use his office for his own ends over and over and over, because this is the guy he is. That’s all there is to the guy, greed, resentment, oversensitivity and meanness. He somehow found some way to paper that over for about half the country, but he can’t hide who he is forever. That does give me some hope.
@Smedley Darlington Prunebanks (Formerly Mumphrey, et al.):
@O. Felix Culpa:
It is comments like these that make me demand we have up-voting on BJ!
Cilizza has been utter trash. He nearly cancels out Fahrenthold.
@Ella in New Mexico: It’s gonna take some time and some scandals. Trump will *never* be in positive territory on approval ratings though and that will eat at him….. and there will be major incidents within weeks of him taking office, and that will eat at him. I give his presidency a half-life of 18 months. Hell get frustrated or quit or stroke out. There’s also going to be multiple internal purges within the administration as the various sub-factions try to lay blame for the inevitable fuckups that are going to happen thick and fast.
@Thoroughly Pizzled: I know. Why does Chris Cilizza still have a job?
@gogol’s wife:
I don’t give a fuck what Trump and his echo chamber think about things.
I do think there are 3+ members of the Senate who are willing to work with the Democrats to stop him from destroying the country. And there are so many divided groups in the Republican party that are not going to get what they thought they’d get under him that they’ll have no qualms about undermining his stupid.
Read some of the conservative sites besides Breitbart, who really doesn’t represent the majority or R’s in Congress. The Revolution is just beginning.
Simmer down, John. It was always thus.
Our turkey is resting, Jeffryw’s dressing is baking, the potatoes for smashing are boiling, the collards are cooked, the broccoli are ready to be steamed, the gravy fixin’s are ready to go.
Yeah, this country is fucked by its obsession with profit and shareholder value.
Go eat, man.
Happy Thanksgiving
@Ella in New Mexico:
I hope you’re right. The question is, who has the power and the will to take them down? The Republican congress? The Republican-stacked courts? The largely sycophantic press? The willingly duped red state electorate?
Forgive me, I seesaw between paralytic despair and galvanized activist about eleventy million times a day. Watching the National Dog Show now for a little cheer.
The emails “scandal” was a transparently trumped up story. Given the polls, I thought we were going to overcome it.
They’ve now lied about the Gore, Kerry, and Clinton to great effect. They will lie about our next nominee as well. Not sure what we can do about it.
How do we feel about the “Trump == Berlusconi” theory?
Well, now we know what drumpf sees in Flynn, other than the adoration drumpf requires constantly.
Is it possible to impeach an entire administration of “know-it-all” fuckups?
John, our best hope, although a long shot, would be to get on the “flip the electors” AND the recount / investigate results trains…
And can I add that I’m fucking tired of reading articles (today’s Daily Beast) urging liberals to get over it and reach out to the proverbial dreadful Thanksgiving uncle and aunt, who after all, are not terrible people and only voted as they did out of concern for the hard times they’re going through. Oh, yes, there was a brief statement in the article that racism and misogyny and bigotry are bad, but who’s to say that Trump voters are such people?
Where the hell are the articles urging asshole conservatives to recognize the essential goodness of HRC voters?
@gogol’s wife:
If you think Trump voters pay attention to The New Yorker….
@Major Major Major Major: I wouldn’t trust the New York Times if they said their name was New York Times.
@West of the Rockies (been a while): Plus ça change, I almost think those articles are the same each year with a few keywords changed. Only the American left is expected to do any critical self-examination.
@West of the Rockies (been a while): Expect lots of articles like that from white people who don’t want to choose a side.
@O. Felix Culpa: What channel is the Dog Show on? My mom is housebound and on her own this year (I’m on the other side of the Pond), and she would love that – I need to phone her to wish her Happy Turkey Day – would be nice to be able to suggest this to her.
@Baud: What you did there, it was seen.
In the realm of tiny favors, when I was at the doctor yesterday the tv (CNN) was shouting about “Pres-Elect Trump flip-flops!” It was enough to brighten my morning a wee tiny bit.
The headline story for the weekend has already been written. That stupid fuck head Rosie O’Donnell tweeted that she thinks Barron Trump is autistic.
We will now have several days of hand-wringing over how mean liberals are for attacking a child.
Fuck her and her stupid tweet
@Greenergood:
NBC. Just finished herding dogs, moving on to terriers.
ETA: I’m inspired to watch “Best in Show” again. Pure comedic genius.
@Baud: It’s an op-ed. Does this mean you don’t trust Krugman?
@SiubhanDuinne:
Nixon’s crew killed Vietnam War peace talks in 1968, so he had a better chance to win the 1968 election and nary a peep from the media, when this was verified a few years ago.
U.S. hostages, in Iran, sat for a few days, after President Carter negotiated their release, but left just in time to land on the day of Reagan’s inauguration.
Face it: IOKIYAR has been around for a long, long time and ain’t going anywhere.
@gene108:
Which is super illegal, of course. Fuck Kissinger, that fucking war criminal.
@Tim C.:
Dear God in heaven, I pray that you are correct.
@Major Major Major Major: I just saw that the link said NYT. Didn’t click. I’ll give Krugman a pass. Although not sure his advice would have worked here.
@Ella in New Mexico:
I hope you’re right. I hope there are some Republicans in Congress who don’t want to destroy the country, but I haven’t seen the evidence. Imma trust you on the non-Breitbart sites — can’t stomach reading them right now.
@gogol’s wife: Co-signed.
@Baud:
Yup.
The myth of the liberal media is perhaps one of the very biggest lies accepted as fact by stupid Americans.
@O. Felix Culpa:
I want to see a show about herding cats.
See, that just makes Flynn a maverick. We like mavericks in general.
Presidential candidates, however, are rightly held to a higher standard. They must not be touched by any hint of impropriety.
Oh..
@Baud: There’s also a series of articles on the topic in the Guardian and, if you’re into that sort of thing, Jacobin.
@SiubhanDuinne: Forget Corporate media. John. G. Cole would be shrieking about it from the roof tops.
@West of the Rockies (been a while):
The media wants to normalize Trump. But they refuse to accept the fact 52% of the country voted against him, and 2 million more people voted for Hillary than Trump.
Usually the President has been the person, with the most votes, but not this time. Not even close.
People need to be reminded Trump does not have popular support.
@Major Major Major Major: my boss is Italian, from Naples. When Trump got the nomination he looked at me ruefully and said “welcome to the Bunga Bunga”.
He knew whereof he spoke.
@Baud:
Haha. Any suggestions on how to break my 20-pound cat of his new habit — sleeping on my head?
@Major Major Major Major: One of the worst things about losing, besides the apocalypse, is all the advice.
@gene108:
Well, damn it, gene, surely you know that the reelection of a Republican is faaar more important than the lives of those lost pursuing an unwinnable war!
@Ella in New Mexico:
God I hope so. I really hope there are military personnel who are willing to block the more violent, power hungry and revenge minded aspects of his inclinations. My biggest fear about the disaster of foreign policy looming is he does abandon NATO in fact and/or practice. This would leave Germany as the sole defense between Putin and re-establishing the old Soviet eastern block. I think he interfered in the election to keep the Ukraine in the Russian trading partners and out of the EU (and the Syrian BS). But if he can get back say, Slovakia, Kosovo, Romania, etc… I think he would go for it if he thinks he can get away with it. And Cheeto Dick is going to be too busy twitting about how wonderful his Mexican wall is to notice the Iron Curtain that just dropped across Europe.
@gogol’s wife:
1) Get second cat.
2) Place on head.
So my first Thanksgiving in my new land was spent fighting with the washer/dryer. Here in Ireland (and all over Europe) the washers and dryers are combined. Apparently the washer takes 2 hours to wash and the dryer takes, I dunno, this is the 3rd 40 minute cycle to dry. Not happy.
Or maybe I programmed them wrong. Found a “take out” laundry by my new place. Thank the goddess.
@Baud:
lol my sentiments exactly, especially Masha Gessen, go to hell
@gogol’s wife:
That reminds me… You hear about the new ridged pillow?
It’s making headlines!
(Ducks and runs….)
@Baud:
I already have second cat! She stays out of the whole thing!
@Baud: I like the way you think.
@gogol’s wife: Damn! Back to the drawing board for Baud!.
@schrodinger’s cat:
You are right about that, he would indeed!
I heard he goes by Discount Mark Halperin nowadays.
@gogol’s wife:
@Major Major Major Major:
Time for Emergency Cat #3.
@SiubhanDuinne:
Barron seems fine.
@O. Felix Culpa: Thank you!!! Happy Turkey Day!
@Baud:
It’s called The Democ(r)ats.
@O. Felix Culpa:
In the next episode, watch as they try to win over the white working cats.
@O. Felix Culpa: I should’ve known we were in trouble in September when it seemed like we had our act together.
@West of the Rockies (been a while):
It wasn’t published in real time, but some of LBJ’s documents or recordings became public a few years ago.
Turns out LBJ was spying on the something that caught Nixon’s crew promising South Vietnam a better deal, if they backed out of the negotiations.
LBJ did not want to make his spying operation public, so they never released the proof in real time.
When it became public, there was no reexamination of Nixon or the remaining Nixon-ites*, who are still flittering around the public sphere, who might have known something.
* Rumsfeld and Cheney both cut their political teeth as disciples of Tricky Dick Nixon. Nixon’s minions have been staffing Reagan and both Bush’s administrations.
** Trump maybe the first Republican admin not be up to its neck with Nixon-ites, since Eisenhower.
