Ok what the hell /u/spez !? Up till now I thought all the crap was just more T_D BS. Now you flaunt that it is true in front of the whole world. I even kind of liked you and trusted you. What the shit man. Goodbye reddit! I am leaving now, this is the bale of straw that broke this camel's back.

This is a private website, this has nothing to do with freedom of speech. It's just an admin run amok.

    [–]TheMysteriousFizzyJWhat's Next? 15

Same thing happens on Facebook. FB doesn't bother telling you though. Usually they just delete your post, even on your own profile, when says things clearly, provably against the current narrative. Annoyed me.

Here's something weird. When I proposed to my wife we posted a bunch of pictures on Facebook about the day, a few hours later, Facebook AUTOMATICALLY changed our relationship status to engaged. It was really fucking strange.

Maybe this is /u/spez way of reaching out for help?

'member Facebook, and YouTube when they came out and now it's becoming more and more crap as investors clamp down?

He has suits hanging over his head. Maybe I'm playing devil's advocate here. Is reddit being threatened by millions of dollars worth of PR, marketing, and propaganda firms?

Major investors have far more control over a product than most like to admit and sometimes force changes that degrade the product to further their own financial, political, and selfish aims. Usually at the cost of the consumer. That might work in the short term, but long term it only builds resentment and before you know it your baby has become EA and Comcast. As they say how much more do they want? Enough is enough. Hell I'll be happy if I can have a consistent return. Why does it always have to be more more more?

Reddit isn't well. We've tried Reddit Gold to meet the demand, but it seems like it was all superficial and the big dollars won out. Things have changed.

Help us help you /u/spez .

Read the fallout chat on slack and tell me if you think he's really 'reaching out for help'? More like looking for an excuse...

Why does everyone think everything is a subliminal message all of a sudden?

In a way it is. It's designed to interpret pictures, titles, main comments, and develop word associations and match those up with similar associations across your feed.

Do it yourself. Analyze the pictures on your front page. Colors, objects, words associated with those. Same for the titles. I've found it seems to be designed to match things within 1 page or closely so. It is also why things stay so stubbornly long at the top. The algorithm is designed to be an echo chamber on purpose.

This is designed to increase clicks because if you are already thinking of it, then you are more likely to click on those links, which increases the chances of you falling for an ad in some form.

What are people saying in those spez links? Fall of reddit. Step down. Is it any coincidence that millions of dollars are being spent on "investors" in one way or another to game this site and social media in general?

Pizzagate threatened people. Talk of the elite pedo group would invariably cross one of those investors.

There is big money in this industry of manipulating social media now and we can expect more of it.

    EDIT:

I thought this was to another comment, but I'm going to leave it as it's somewhat relevant.

    [–]GameraaaaBernie Lesbro - #FreeJulian 15

People are gilding Spez for his comments - what a waste of money.

He is probably guilding himself. Remember, he has the power to just put the gold star on there.

Are they though? Honestly, can we even trust that he didn't fire up a +10 to gold for this post database edit to try to sway people into saying "well, good for him for admitting it"?

I often have that thought on these admin posts that get gilded but don't seem to really deserve it.

Did they do that themselves? Or maybe it was it other Reddit admins that can hand out gold for free? I mean, the database stores which user gilds which posts, and obviously spez has access to that database.

What better way to brown-nose the boss than to put your name down as publically supporting them on controversial issues?

    [–]GameraaaaBernie Lesbro - #FreeJulian 6

God how embarrassing if he did.

Why is this in r/WayOfTheBern? What does this have to do with Bernie?

Ever wonder how so many posts in /r/all or other political subreddits were almost completely pro-hillary, while Bernie or Trump supporters were laughed away?

Ever tried to respond to someone in a political debate and your comments never appeared? (this happened to me a few times)

What if those weren't actual users, and were admins manipulating comments alongside paid shills posting honeypot comments to control the discussion?

What if the admins use this power to inject illegal content into your comments to have evidence to ban you, or simply change your comment when you're not looking? You'd never know, you don't get notified and there's no asterisk to signify an edit.

Just a few hours ago this would be seen as crazy conspiracy. Now we can't tell what's legit and who's manipulating subreddit communities. They can edit, remove, or hide comments without telling you.

Hopefully they haven't been doing much, if any, of the above. But we literally can't know anymore. Mods have caught them manipulating comments, and there's no evidence unless the admin admits it, like spez idiotically did.

This is absolutely correct. We have no idea if anything on reddit is credible anymore. Past, present, or future. Every word on reddit now carries no weight, because we now know for a fact that posts can be altered without any knowledge of who, when, or where.

Reddit just signed it's death warrant.

    [–]NetWeaselSCContinuing the Struggle 10

    Hi there!

This appears to be your first posting in here. Why don't you take a further look around, and check the place out.

This has to do with every sub on Reddit. What spez just did undermines the integrity of reddit and the confidence of every user. What if you posted something that an administrator doesn't like...so they change it...and then they go deep into your history and put CP in your history...and then notify the FBI of your disgusting activities...hypothetical? Yes. Possible? Spez just proved it.

    [–]TheMysteriousFizzyJWhat's Next? 2

How can we be sure that u/10gauge really thinks that this changes the integrity of reddit? What if /u/10gauge is really in favor of spez changing things? gah!

    Uh...what?

    [–]TheMysteriousFizzyJWhat's Next? 3

My lame attempt at a joke.

If spez is editing comments, then you can't take anything anyone says on reddit at face value. Like, whether we agree with spez editing comments.

Ah, got it. I'll check back and see if any of my comments have been edited!

    [–]TheMysteriousFizzyJWhat's Next? 0

It's unlikely they have been. spez has more important things to do, like refute being a pedophile or bribed

Do all admins have this capability and are there examples where this has been done in the past?

That's the thing. We now know at least one admin, has the ability to modify, hide, edit, etc peoples commits with admitting to doing so. There is no way of knowing if other mods or workers at Reddit have the same power, or if it is just Spez... now that this has happened there is no way of knowing who said what on the entire site, throughout all of reddit's history... so you're comment could be easily edited to "I love spez" and my whole comment can just be hid/deleted/edited to "I <3 Trump".... Spez's admitted to do doing exactly that, and it creates a precedent that no comment can be trusted to be what the OP actually said on the entirety of reddit and throughout all of reddits history of hundreds of thousands of users' posts.

No one knows, that's exactly why this is a problem.

Reddit is still a service you're using for free. Don't take it for granted, be mindful that owners can be dicks and don't bank on it being perfect. If it goes to shit, migrate to a different platform. If there is none, try to support people who can build one.

We constantly crosspost from TD and other subs :P Just cause most of us are Bernie supporters, doesn't mean we automatically hate anything dealing with Trump. You should look around and see if you like it here, we have regular Trump supporters posting around here, they can tell ya first hand that we are an open minded and welcoming group. As long as you aren't an asshole, we welcome everyone. And the mods never remove posts or ban users.

This is the CEO for christsakes. Who cares if they call you a pedophile? The previous CEO was called a dictator and other nasty shitty daily for weeks, she never abused her power of authority like this.

4 major takeaways from this little "prank":

    1. Given more credence to the claims that the admins are censoring and manipulating reddit for their own agendas.

    2. Kicked the hornets nest of the most active sub, the same sub that contains members that already hated him before this.

    3. Brought more attention to pizzagate, ironic since he was trying to do the opposite.

    4. Proved that the admins can edit things without us detecting it (unless someone happens to notice it like now).

I am seriously in awe that he thought this was a good idea. Is there seriously no checks and balances over there?

We at /r/OurPresident condemn the actions of the Reddit Admin(s) involved. The idea that comments and potentially up/down-votes can and likely have been edited to suit a certain narrative is deeply disturbing, and a betrayal of the basic premise of Reddit - the exercise of free speech and open sharing of ideas.

Reddit needs a neutral third party audit to ensure that admins have not been overstepping their bounds as caretakers to our community.

Couldn't users take screenshots of their comments and include a link? It could be Photoshopped, but that's a lot more effort.

It would be more secure to cryptographically sign your posts. That way only the person with access to the private key can sign the post, and if the signature doesn't match the contents, you know it's been tampered with.

I've always used gpg. They have versions for all operating systems (Mac version, Windows version, other OSes just use the normal version plus a GUI), and there are definitely some browser addons out there for integrating with gpg (typically used with webmail).

Here is an introductory guide on using GPG with Thunderbird/IceDove. I can probably answer specific questions if you have any.

They aren't wrong at all. So many people have known that reddit can be manipulated, and this is proof. It also makes it look like pizzagate had some merit, especially since they were caught unmuting really bad users that were posting PII.

The only way they can even attempt to save face is to have Spez step down, but I doubt it will completely fix it.

I don't know. He'd have been wiser just to hire somebody to handle his account for him or set up a bot that auto-replied to the meaningless insults. It's hard to imagine him handling this worse except for maybe recording a video where he screams and cries about it.

Might I suggest a message board? vBulletin is cheap and the board/forum/thread format can support a lot of traffic assuming the web host is reasonably good. Put up a front page for news and the like but have forums available--makes properly threaded discussions very feasible and allows for a lot of opinion and traffic and subject matter. Just a thought, but if we're gonna craft a political revolution we're going to need a good open spot to hash out the details--one that can be effectively moderated and community policed.

      [–]GameraaaaBernie Lesbro - #FreeJulian 2

Because we have a large population who is going to assume that a person with a lot of gold is wealthy. It adds human value on that alone. Also this article explains why it's better to own gold over legal tender (but maybe it's best to not put all crabs in one bucket so to speak).
