Possible Trump Cabinet Pick Accidentally Reveals Homeland Security Plans

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who is often mentioned as a likely pick for Donald Trump’s cabinet, was photographed Monday before his meeting with the president-elect, with his written plan for Department of Homeland Security policy. Among the plans accidentally revealed to the press by Kobach were his desire for the reintroduction of an “alien-tracking” system, a al the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System, which the Kansas official envisions as tracking people from “high-risk areas.” Additionally, the document calls for “extreme vetting questions” for “high-risk aliens,” including a religious test to see if possible entrants support Sharia law or the U.S. Constitution; the reduction of Syrian refugee intake to zero; and references, in parts obscured by Kobach’s hand, the PATRIOT Act, voter registration, the removal of undocumented immigrants, and a border wall with Mexico. Groups like the Council on American-Islamic Relations have condemned the “inquisition-style” policies outlined in Kobach’s document, and several of his fellow lawmakers mocked him for seeking a high-security clearance position while unwittingly revealing his own confidential plans in a press photograph.
