I really don't get what kind of person both appreciates musical theater and getting wasted and yelling politically-charged expletives in public. I assume because of how hard it's supposed to be to get tickets they would have needed to purchase long before the Pence thing.

You can buy tickets to any of their shows on StubHub at any time.

For like 300$ minimum. Dude was clearly a member of the distressed economic underclass who just wants to be heard.

Assholes can be rich too!

He bought the tickets specifically to heckle the cast. He did a nice job wasting several hundred dollars on an empty gesture of anger.

That mother fucker. I could have had that ticket!

These idiots are giving Hamilton their money just to get kicked out of their performance.

In a Starbucks my sister's friend works at, Trump supporters are "protesting" by buying 3-4 cups of coffee, paying for them, and asking to write "Trump" on the cups. The Starbucks has seen a huge growth in profit.

I don't understand any part of this trend. It literally makes no sense to me.

It shouldn't make sense, you're fine. We're not exactly dealing with the brightest portion of the population here.

After thinking about the logic to the "protest" for a couple minutes I determined this is the only logical answer.

I don't think logic comes into play for these people, honestly.

They think they're "sticking it to some stupid liberals", when in actuality most of the people who have to write Trump on a cup don't give a shit and more money is going to Starbucks.

It's especially great when you realize that Starbucks has very vocally supported liberal causes like Planned Parenthood, even going as far as to match employee's donations to the organizations. So. Nice protest they've got there....

+1 reminds me of the old Rutles movie (Beatles Parody) where the John Lennon equivalent says the Rutles are bigger than God and then the announcer comments on the backlash (badly paraphrased), "Many fans burned their Rutles albums. Many more fans burned their fingers burning their Rutles albums. Sales of Rutles records skyrocketed; people bought them just to burn them."

Haha that's a good one, I love that movie. Don't find too many people who know or have seen it though

Well they did vote for the candidate that said he wants to build a giant cartoonish wall from California to Texas and have Mexico pay for it somehow.

"Tramp, got a grande caramel latte no whip for a Tramp. Come up and get your grande caramel latte, Tramp"

T. Rump. Hot black eye for T. Rump.

That's amazing. I can't imagine anybody that works there has a hard time writing trump in the cups. I worked at GameStop and if someone came in and was like I'd like to buy a copy of Gears of War and can you write Trump on it, I'd be like "ok sounds good, do you want any other games? Will you buy these copies of destiny if I write trump on them?"

They're trolling, not really protesting. It's actually pretty hilarious.

If the arts isn't the place to fight society then it's not art any more.

just throw him out and move on

The half dozen or so folks in here agreeing that performance artists deserve to be heckled and censored for expressing themselves in a measured manner gives me ever so much hope for the next four years

I don't even understand how they can take issue with what the cast of Hamilton said. They were incredibly respectful, voiced their concerns, and even Pence himself said he wasn't offended.

Only thing I can think is that they're part of the echo chamber that is the_donald. People who are concerned or have even vaguely negative things to say about the Trump administration are very quickly banned as "concern trolls", so many of them are outright hostile toward opposing viewpoints, no matter how respectfully they're voiced.

Donald and Co are making a PR stink about it to distract from his $25M Trump U settlement. Donald himself probably doesn't care that much about it either, and is just making a scene for attention like he does.

They don't deserve to be heckled, but IMO it was an inappropriate time and place. If a lawyer takes two minutes at the end of a court hearing to get on a soapbox about some issue, he would be fired by his client. The same principal applies. Miranda putting such a far-left message out like that could potentially create a hostile work environment lawsuit.

For example: if I had been working at GrubHub when that email went around, then as a Trump supporter, I would absolutely have a reasonable belief that my political beliefs would get me fired (Source: asked a family member about this who has been a successful lawyer for almost 20 years).

The same thing could apply here. Maybe one of the crew is very pro-Trump, and Miranda's speech made him feel that he would lose his job if he came out as pro-Trump.

EDIT: if any downvoters want to come up with a reasonable argument against the concept of hostile work environment lawsuits, then be my guest.

I thought it was another actor? Wasn't it Aaron Burr? And Miranda no longer plays Hamilton. I haven't seen anything saying he was part of the speech.

I've been curious what Miranda thinks of this because the impression I have is that he wasn't involved.

My mistake. Whoever it was, my point is still valid.

First off Fuck this guy! I spent hours trying to get tickets the second they were up. While I'm at it, fuck ticketmaster!

Second, I love how one random douche bag makes a scene and its "news" . I mean this guy is a no body. Why does he get any spot light?

Well, right now he's nobody, but if he keeps it up, he might find his way into Trump's cabinet.

Yep... reinforces my theory that people are just rooting for their favorite sports team. Even if hitler is the quarterback their team must win.

That dude must really like Aaron Burr. Shit man, move on.

What about his paying $25 Million the other day to stop three fraud trials against him? One of which is said to include charges of financial abuse of the elderly.

Really? That's what "winning" looks like?

So, Kapernick couldn't kneel and these guys can't speak their mind without conservatives telling them how to protest. You would never hear about their protest if they didn't do it otherwise. Conservatives just don't want to hear about protests, it's much easier to be in a bubble.

This thread is a dumpster fire, kind of like 'merica right now.

Where's all the healing I keep hearing about?

We keep trying, but it's hard to when you have Trump's people citing Korematsu v United States as legal precedent for his so called Muslim registry.

Friends of mine were at this show. They said it didn't ruin the performance, but felt bad for the artists. She thought they must be terrified someone would direct something at them. She had the feeling he was drunk as well. She could see his wife try to get him to sit down and tried to cover his mouth with her hand.

He should have to pay for the refunds, those are some expensive tickets.
