1 point above Watford 1/3 of the way through the season. We completely dominated yet only scored one goal. Unless we go on a good run between here and Christmas I think it will be very difficult for us to make top 4.

Hence why I think we should be taking the Europa League very seriously.

A lot of negativity surrounding the match and our prospects. I've no doubt this thread will be full of it so I'm not going to dwell on it. Instead, let's try and look at some possible positives.

Defensively we were weak again.

Valencia rushed back. Darmian hasn't played a lot. Phil Jones playing only his third??? game this season. Rojo in with another new partner. This is a cobbled together defence, at best, and, with all that in mind, against one of the best attacks in the league, De Gea didn't have much to do until the last minute.

Valencia was a machine, all day. Up and down. Up and down. Mo Farah would have difficulty outlasting this guy. Well deserved his MOTM award.

Sanchez, Ozil and Walcott were all marshalled very well, all day. We were happy to let Sanchez have the ball deep, where he couldn't hurt us. I honestly forgot that Ozil was playing, at one point. Walcott had two dangerous runs at Darmian. One where Darmian was laughably booked for a clear Walcott dive. One where he wasn't, despite being high and late. Over 90 minutes, that's not too bad.

Can't say anything about Carrick that hasn't been said. You'll struggle to find a highlight of him but that's just not his game. He was calm and composed and exactly what we needed. I worried that the movement around him would cause him trouble but I thought he was good. Also, he's mastered the "stare straight ahead in the tunnel" before the game, which is a plus for me.

We created chances. I think the main issue people have is that we keep creating chances and not scoring. Last year, we were making one chance and scoring. Which one is better is up to you. Personally, I think someone is due for a battering pretty soon. This can't keep going without us hammering someone by five or six.

It's ridiculous to suggest a point was good for us, of course. But considering the form of the teams coming in, considering how we've performed in big games against City, Liverpool and Chelsea this season....it was very nice to see us not only compete, but dominate. Dropping points is very disappointing but the manner of the draw should give us encouragement.

Top 4 looks a long way off but we CAN do it.

Failing to put away average sides at home is ridiculous.
