Donald Trump demands safe space for Mike Pence
Vice President-elect Mike Pence figured he was in for a nice relaxing Friday night watching our rapping founding fathers on Broadway. As it turns out, the patrons of “Hamilton” aren’t all huge fans of Pence, and he was showered with a combination of boos and applause when he entered the theater.

As is always the case when someone is mildly rude to a powerful figure, there was some pearl clutching about being disrespectful or ceding the moral high ground or whatever. That’s dumb. Boo Mike Pence whenever light touches his face. He deserves it. Especially at a performance of “Hamilton.”
Here are three fun bullet points from Mike Pence’s old campaign website from his 2000 Congressional run:
• Congress should oppose any effort to put gay and lesbian relationships on an equal legal status with heterosexual marriage.
• Congress should oppose any effort to recognize homosexual’s as a “discreet and insular minority” entitled to the protection of anti-discrimination laws similar to those extended to women and ethnic minorities.
• Congress should support the reauthorization of the Ryan White Care Act only after completion of an audit to ensure that federal dollars were no longer being given to organizations that celebrate and encourage the types of behaviors that facilitate the spreading of the HIV virus. Resources should be directed toward those institutions which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior.
As governor of Indiana, Pence also managed to help create an HIV outbreak because he thought needle exchanges were immoral and effectively helped close the Planned Parenthood in Scott County where people could have actually gone for HIV testing.
All of this is horrible on its own, but why bring it up here? The lead actor in “Hamilton” is openly gay and HIV positive. Pence doesn’t get to do everything he can to strip rights away from the gay community and endanger their lives, then just consume art that features gay people so prominently without getting some light push back. Even the cast was gracious when they singled him out at the end of the show.

The Theater must always be a safe and special place. The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!

Dude isn’t even president yet and he’s demanding apologies because the cast of a Broadway show politely asked Pence not to trample all over their rights.
