So, I'm sure by now you've heard of No Man's Sky before, but if you haven't all you need to know is that it is a space simulator/exploration game that received insane amounts of hype before its release. However, the hype quickly turned into a shitstorm of vitriolic hatred when many of the promised features were cut from the finished version of the game and many users felt that they were lied to by NMS' developer Hello Games and especially their CEO Sean Murray. Writing a summary of all the drama that went down before, during and after the release of the game would probably be best suited for an entire subreddit of its own, but here are 2 good threads to check out if you want: 1, 2
Nowadays /r/NoMansSkyTheGame has turned into a sub that is more about the userbase's disappointment in the game and the developer than the game itself, especially since Hello Games has not yet released a statement regarding what went wrong during the game's developement. The sub is often regarded as being very toxic, which is why people created /r/nomanshigh sort of as a more positive counterpart for people who enjoy the game to discuss it and share screenshots.
Meanwhile, the mods at /r/NoMansSkyTheGame announce their plan to do a fundraiser for cancer research in a self described attempt at channelling the sub's anger into something positive and finally getting a statement from Sean Murray. One user then decides to post a link to the thread in /r/nomanshigh, which leads us to:
The Drama:
Full Thread
One user does not want to support /r/NMS due to the perceived toxicity, leading to a fight about whether the game can actually be enjoyed or not.
Another user is critical as well
As the flames rage higher another user says the campaign is like "ransom", leading to a heated debate on which sub is actually taking the high road
But lo and behold, reposting the thread to /r/nomanshigh was merely an experiment!
This time a user from /r/nomanshigh walks into /r/NoMansSkyTheGame leading to fight between them and the OP
