About this project
Ever wish you had more control of your time? We all have only 24 hours a day, but spend so much of it ineffectively, by procrastinating and poorly estimating the passing of time.
Instead of relying on clocks for precise and accurate time, what if they could adjust to your internal sense of time instead?
Rubato Clock looks and functions deceptively like an ordinary clock. However, it has sophisticated algorithms that automatically alter the displayed time to influence human perception and behaviour, without losing track of the actual overall duration. This cuts down on ineffective use of time and lets you devote more of it to things that really matter.
But how does it work?
In Productive mode, Rubato subtly speeds up the minutes in the initial stages of your work intervals, artificially heightening the pressure by creating the illusion that time is running out.
At the later stages, the displayed time then slows back down to match with real-world time, allowing you to work comfortably once in the zone.
The corresponding Creative mode works by slowing down time, giving you more breathing room to get inspired with new ideas.
Time on a conventional clock is absolute and inflexible, but for humans, time is simply a state of mind. We all know how time flies when we’re having fun and slows to a crawl when we're bored - now the Rubato clock uses this to your advantage!
Scientific studies have also found that when one experiences time faster for an unpleasant task, it will seem more enjoyable.

Our clock is complemented with our mobile app which gives you control over the multiple features that Rubato Clock havs to offer.
Automated Time Syncing
Managing an analog clock has never been easier! Our app automatically synchronises the display time. Daylight saving and time zones will be the problem of the past.
Countdown Display
Rubato clock can show the countdown of a set duration, becoming a visual time progress bar.
Smart Time Manipulation
Dynamically altering the progression of displayed time in different situations can invoke your productive or creative side.
Design and Quality
For the past few months we have been prototyping and developing the clock, using sustainable materials like bamboo and combing the electronics market to source out reliable suppliers. We believe in creating a high quality product that is minimalistic, elegant and unique, yet at the same time functional and current with the times.
Why analog instead of digital clock? We let the wood design tell us the time instead of numbered clock dials because we view time as an experience, we define time!
We created clock faces in two different sizes, the 8-inch Poco and 12-inch Molto, from segmented pieces of laminated bamboo boards, resulting in a subtle, pleasing grain effect.
Both clocks come with an integrated desk stand, giving you the option of using it wall-mounted or on any flat surface.

Risks and challenges
We have personally flown over to Shenzhen, China to source for reliable suppliers and initiate discussions with potential manufacturers, and will continue to work closely with them. Even though we anticipate a challenging manufacturing process, we are confident that our partners both local and overseas will be able to successfully bring our vision for a high-quality product into market.
