Tokyo, On November 16, 2016, TOLOT Inc. officially released its photobook printing and binding service “TOLOT” in North America. Already this smartphone app service is enjoyed in Japan by over 2 million users. TOLOT’s high-quality photobooks made from smartphone photos will be available at the low price of $5.99 (with free shipping).

The $5.99 price is equivalent to the cost paid in America for shipping fees alone from the main existing photobook services. TOLOT’s photobooks are offered at such a low price due to our automated production system, and details of our raw-material costs and shipping information are open to the public. This transparency is aimed at forging a relationship of trust with consumers in the North American market.

The photobook raw materials are just 50 cents

Raw materials costs—paper, printing fees, album coating, glue, etc.—for TOLOT’s photobooks total approximately 50 cents. We use high-quality printing paper made in Japan, and the HP Indigo series as our printer, the printer used by main photobook service providers* in the United States. Therefore our 50-cent raw material costs for TOLOT photobooks are not significantly cheaper than those of major US photobook services.

Major cost reduction due to automated manufacturing

Low raw materials costs are not the reason why TOLOT photobooks can be provided at just $5.99 per photobook. The main factor is the photobook manufacturing process. While in conventional production, each process has an operator assigned to it, TOLOT processes are fully automated, without the need for human operators. That means the four major stages—prepress, printing, bookbinding, and delivery (sending)—are all performed by machines. TOLOT’s own fully automated factory is located in Tokyo. It’s the key reason why the TOLOT photobook can be offered at the very low price of just $5.99.

TOLOT’s Price is Equivalent to the Delivery Costs Alone of Other Major Photobooks in the United States

Buying a conventional photobook means the consumer pays for the product, and for its shipment. Although a number of shipment methods are available, the cheapest prices available in the U.S. for sending the usual photobook products run between $5 and $10. With TOLOT you pay only the $5.99 fee for the product itself—shipment is completely free-of-charge.

Our in-house design team produces creative works, even art gallery catalogues

TOLOT Inc. offers much more than first-class photobook services. Additionally, we do everything from arrangement to printing to bookbinding for books like photo anthologies and art gallery catalogues, etc., that are sold at bookstores. We use the knowhow cultivated in these other businesses to develop products of the highest quality at the most competitive prices.
