Shipping and Web App

Hey guys!
Production is booming and running along smoothly: we already have 140 cubic meters of semi-assembled components.

So far, we’ve assembled and run thorough quality checks on the first completed production 3D printer batches. With all those printers under testing and certification, we are almost ready to fire up mass production of 1200 printers a day!

We are encountering delays with the certifying documentation necessary for international shipping of 8 different resin formulas to 106 countries and 54 different languages (a total of 408 different labels). With the ONO resin family being (proudly!) a brand new chemical formula, we have to adapt the paperwork to be fully compliant with all the different local laws. Shipping to all these countries definitely has its challenges, but we are we are resolving these issues so that we can get ONO to you by early January.

You, our backers, are the foundation of our success, and we want you to be the foundation of the ONO community as well. While the paperwork is delaying shipping, the rest of the development, including the app, is on schedule. The ONO Web App will become available to all of you starting on November 25. You will have exclusive access to it before everyone else, when you sign up for an ONO account with your Kickstarter email!

Tutorials will help you navigate the App and start uploading your own models. Every time you upload your files to the App, you’ll be contributing to growing the ONO library and laying a strong foundation for an expanding community.

In addition, every week we will select and print the most interesting and unique models and feature them on our social media platforms. More details will follow in the next update.

We can’t wait to see what you have planned for your ONOs!

Thanks for all your support and patience.

With all respect, if you do care that much m, then pay me back the same amount I paid and get my pledge. How is that sounds!
I have emailed them back in September and they laid to me by saying: "we already started shipping" has anyone of you received it?! Absolutely bullshit!!!
      Now saying On January???

      Hello, another anxious backer here...

I am understanding about Kickstarter project delays but what is this public library deal?

+1 for this to be optional and not default.

The creator of the designs NEEDS to hold the rights to his design,, otherwise, like what another posted stated, expect legal problems.

That sounds like a sneaky way of legally robbing everyone of their intellectual property.

      Please fix this.

Meanwhile we will be patiently waiting, thank you.

Original shipping date to your backers for THE OLO 3D PRINTER was Septemeber 2016. It's mid-November. Nice to get an update on software that is useless without the printer--Can we get an update on the printer and when we might expect shipping?

DO NOT REFUND THEIR MONEY as this will require much more paperwork than you currently doing, delays the delivery further, and we can't wait!

Product was promised in September. I'm not upset that it's running late, but it's been a long time and I've since changed my mailing address. I've written two emails. Months apart. No response. Please, have some respect for your backers.

always someone like alexandre and there amazon story , lol , there complaining because they did what every shady kickstarter does and state a fast delivery around the corner date, when in reality its going to take till end of next year , look at the pictures and amount of pledges they have to fill , still no video, still no proof of it actually working, this is going to take years

There MUST be a private option. I prefer what I create to be unique for the people I create for.
I didnt realize these guys were based in Italy.. I thought they were head quartered in San Fransisco, including production. If this were the case, they should be able to ship US deliveries.
As far as delays.. I know from running an engineering department with several active projects running concurrently, shit happens.. You try to under promise and over deliver, but delivering an incomplete rushed product wastes everyone time and effort. Good Luck Guys!

I understand the delays. Having estimated projects before, I know that estimates ARE in fact just estimates. They aren't hard-and-fast promises of absolute dates, and if someone thinks they are, they haven't been paying attention.

This "general library" thing is problematic. I'm sure that the vast majority of your backers backed this product so they could print their own designs. You didn't bill this as a shared IP library product from the beginning, you billed this as a PERSONAL 3d printer. Personal implies private.

I don't mind if you put a checkbox in the app so I can choose to donate a design to the general library, but that should be MY choice, and the DEFAULT should be set to private. I should have to explicitly select "donate" for any and all projects. If you don't do this, and put someone's company designs in your general library, EXPECT LAWSUITS. According to the Berne Convention on copyright, placing a design in tangible form automatically confers a copyright to the creator for that design. You can't just take that because you offered a service to process the printing. That's like Kinko's deciding they own a novel you photocopied using their copiers.

You must -- not SHOULD -- set up your app so the default setting preserves a user's intellectual property and respects their copyright. If they WISH to explicitly transfer that copyright to a general library of designs, that's part of copyright. They have the right to assign it to others or to put it in the public domain. But you can't ASSUME it to be the case because they used your device or your service.

Nicholas, I'm sure you could run a perfect, challenge free campaign. I'd back it. ;) And I completely agree with under promise and over deliver. However, not everyone is as experienced in business, and it's a risk we all take when backing a project.

For the rest of the complainers, here is a paragraph that shows up on the pledge screen,

"Kickstarter is not a store. People aren't buying things that already exist — they're helping to create new things. Creating things isn't always easy. Some projects will go wonderfully, and others will run into obstacles. Be prepared for a little bit of each."

Here's another paragraph from this page (https://www.kickstarter.com/trust…):

"Some projects won't go as planned. Even with a creator's best efforts, a project may not work out the way everyone hopes. Kickstarter creators have a remarkable track record, but nothing's guaranteed. Keep this in mind when you back a project."

      "Nothing's guaranteed"

Money gets spent in the process of bringing the project to market. This means that if it fails, there may be no money to refund. Like any investor, there is a risk, and unless there is an explicit promise for a refund, I don't believe that anyone (including myself) is ENTITLED to one if the project fails.

Thanks for the update guys. Shame about the delay. Could you guys please clarify your work around to keep proprietary design files out of the general library and under secure long term segregation. I am sure you took into account that there are those of us working under NDAs, have IP issues, or are designers and can't share certain files with the world. Personally I am a designer of jewellery and my designs are my IP and my income, just like the smarts in the OLO and the App are yours.
A response to all on this would be appreciated.

Disappointed that it won't be here for Christmas (had hoped for summer, then September, then October...) but am excited to be in on this project. For the doubters--yes, it can absolutely require that many labels, and even for those countries with English, labeling requirements vary (and then there is Canada). Please keep it moving!

John Arbon; don't be patronising as people have every right to 'whine' after giving this project their own hard-earned cash. I know exactly how crowd-funding works and suspect most people who sign-up to these sites do too. I have seen all this happen before; constant flashy updates about the product but then when it eventually arrived around one year late, it was useless rubbish.

If a product is only at concept stage, they should add six months to the completion date. As I said in my comment below, UNDER promise and OVER deliver. It's a basic rule of business. Also, the delay is because of paperwork, something that could have been dealt with a long time ago.

Why don't backers read the company's background/biography??? It is clearly stated that this is basically italian NOT US!!! Why would they ship to the US first then? And why do you plan with a project as a present? There can always be delays! The schedule early next year is perfectly acceptable. But the privacy option for the models is an absolute MUST!

Guys, thanks for the update. It's looking good. Please take all the criticism with a grain of salt. I believe that most people who get irritated with delays believe that KS is a marketplace for a FINISHED product. Granted, some campaigns ARE just that, but MOST are a request for investment money to bring a concept to market. And often there are some surprising discoveries along the way (such as SDS's that meet each country's requirements in their native language).

That being said, I've backed a few campaigns that ended up being vaporware, but that is the risk that I chose to take, and I don't invest (yes, folks, this is an investment) money that I can not afford to lose.

So, all you whiners, get a grip. It's possible that this is vaporware, but I doubt it. Even though they have encountered unforeseen challenges, they are still posting updates and by all appearances, are making progress, albeit later than expected.

I'd be willing to bet that on their NEXT crowdfunding campaign they will have better information, better expectations, better timelines, and a better understanding of the process.

Now, having said that, OLO dudes, don't let scope creep kill the project.

I'm looking forward to that package at my door. :)

I also support the need for a private option for the App. I've put 3D models from other kickstarters and I don't think they would want me putting them on a shared platform.

    46. Thomas Charron 1 day ago

For the people asking about Christmas, no, they screwed you on that:

" but we are we are resolving these issues so that we can get ONO to you by early January. "

For the record, as an engineer working on Medical Devices, I can, without a doubt, say this is absolute bullshit. You don't certify label every combination of every language, so the math they are insinuating is absolute bullshit. I am now firmly of the believe that this product is a hoax. Please publish the SDS for the product immediately. If you have no intent on providing an SDS, Otherwise, we're going to just recommend to backers of this product that they contact OSHA, and you can go ahead and explain to them how your handling 'Brand new never before created' things. (Which we also believe is bullshit, but sure, whatever).

Thank you for the update! It did leave me concerned though. Most of our printing should never be part of a public model library due to a long list of reasons like NDAs, proprietary designs, client owned IP, or just for privacy reasons. This is a sure way of ensuring the product will just be an expensive paperweight for studios like ours. So I take it for granted that sharing to your library is an option that requires deliberate action, not a requirement, or even a default setting.

      Please clarify :-)

Looks fantastic, the further along the better the build quality appears. I am glad that improvements have been performed along the way to certification and shipping. Working at international non-profits over the years has exposed me to the difficulty in shipping materials that have already completed the certification processes. All the materials safety data sheets for things even like scotch brand tape! Products already certified. I also understand the reasoning behind trying to complete as many of the certifications for different countries as possible. As this is a product that will be sold long after the kickstarter, you don't want to the negative press of shipping to just one or two locations and irritating markets that feel left out. Many will be impatient though and demand that theirs be shipped first. I cannot count the number of products over the years that were promised by the big 5 companies that had significant delays. Better to get it right out of the gate than to ship something less than spot on.

    49. SlimJim 1 day ago
