Your long gun needs to be unloaded and in a case. The ammo must be in a separate container. I generally put my cased rifle behind my truck seat and the ammo in a surplus military can on the passenger seat floor.

Ok yeah I was thinking rifle on back seat, in case, with luggage, and ammo in my glove box or passenger floorboard.

As a rule I always transport the ammo as far away from the firearm as possible, so maybe the ammo in the cab so there is no possible argument in the event someone notices anything. I don't know actual laws, but this is what I do.

Relevant state law: http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/LI/consCheck.cfm?txtType=HTM&ttl=18&div=0&chpt=61&sctn=6&subsctn=0&mobile_choice=suppress

IANAL, but my understanding is that as long as the firearm is "secured", unloaded, and separate from the ammo you should be okay.

According to my class on Conservational law that I took, in fall 2015. You aren't ever allowed to have a loaded weapon in a car unless you are a member of the police. Also why do you you need an AK47 to go fishing

That is entirely wrong. I have a CC permit and always have loaded handguns in my truck. I've been pulled over and told them and they say "Don't touch it and I won't touch mine."

Yeah I actually read this earlier but wanted human input because laws are tricky. The ammo being separate from the gun could literally mean it just cannot be in a magazine attached to the gun. Or in some states it means the ammo must not even be in the same vehicle as the gun.

I'll admit I could be wrong about that, I know he specifically said if a loaded rifle is so much as leaning on a truck he could give someone a ticket, because I thought that was ridiculous.

Wait, I think we're mixing 2 things up here. You originally said "loaded weapon" and now you said "loaded rifle" lol. So I think what your teacher said is correct. You cannot have a loaded rifle/long gun in a vehicle. But you can have a loaded weapon (handgun) as long as you have a permit.
