Back in the earlier days of reddit, people would call out problems with an a link or text post in the comments, usually with a lively discussion. Sometimes there would be a hivemind effect, but other times thoughtful discussions would rise to the top. If someone posted bullshit, and someone found something debunking said bullshit, that would be rewarded. I used to read the comments for that very reason.

Now you can say absolutely anything you want, any lie or warped truth, and ban the person who counters it. There's no longer a counterweight to bullshit, posts just hurtle past each other in parallel universes that don't allow for dissent. Remember when Reddit lost their shit over SRS making that their policy? Where's the anger at r/the_donald?
