What is a prototype?
A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Functional Prototype
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Appearance Prototype
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Design Prototype
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Production Prototype
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
About this project
Put an end to Toilet Seat Misery!
How many times have you sat down on a wet sticky toilet seat because your son or husband didn't bother to lift it before peeing? Or worse yet, shockingly dipped into the cold bowl of water because somebody forgot to put the seat down after using the toilet?
Tinkle Trainer would like to help teach boys and men great bathroom etiquette and put an end to "Toilet Seat Misery - (TSM)" one bathroom at a time.
Toilet training is a milestone in every child’s life. As difficult as the process may seem, there is more that we could be doing when it comes to toilet training our young boys. With Tinkle Trainer, your child will learn everything he needs to know about using the toilet, including lifting the seat before peeing and equally important - putting the seat down after peeing. This is a win for Mom and Dads and benefits anyone else who may use the toilet as well.
The Tinkle Trainer installs effortlessly to the underside of any toilet in a matter of seconds. We use a special watertight industrial removable adhesive tape. This super strong, flexible adhesive keeps the Tinkle Trainer securely attached to the underside of the seat - until you decide to remove it.
Cutting edge technology enables the Tinkle Trainer to detect the seat's movement and orientation. The training principal behind the Tinkle Trainer is simple. Correct behavior is immediately reinforced with a cheerful “Thanks for lifting the seat!” along with a some "uplifting" music boys will want to hear each time they use the toilet. After the required pause for them to use the toilet, they will get a gentle reminder... “Remember, put the seat down”. Once the seat is down, the real celebration begins - punctuated by a heartfelt "Good job!”. Tinkle Trainer will prepare our guys to function in the bathroom world hygienically, and to think of others by keeping their shared spaces clean. Positive reinforcement is key. Our Tinkle Trainer is a playful tool to teach kids to remember to lift up and put down the toilet seat.
How did we come up with this idea???
I have identical eight year old twin boys and a very exasperated 11 year old daughter that shares a bathroom. We run into these very real world toilet seat problems in our own household. I have also heard the occasional squeal of my wife “taking a dip” in the middle of the night. To be fair - that may have been my fault. Anyway - moving on... I began to think that there has to be a solution to this common problem, and the concept for the Tinkle Trainer was born. I am eager to share videos of my kids and the team as we continue to build and improve upon our working prototypes.
At this point we are turning to you, Kickstarters, for help raising $11,000. This start-up capital will cover the costs of finalizing product design, development and tooling, and manufacturing. Additionally, your valued Kickstarter funding will assist us in marketing and distributing the initial version of the Tinkle Trainer toilet seat training system.
Your contributions will make a positive impact by helping young boys and men to be more considerate of those that follow them in the bathroom. Purchase a Tinkle Trainer, and we will help you eradicate TSM in your own household.
No More Sticky Gross Toilet Seats!
No More Falling Into The Cold, Wet Bowl!
Thank you for your support.
Risks and challenges
We have received a provisional patent for the Tinkle Trainer design and concept and have functional electronics and working prototypes in hand. However, our road to success is not assured.
Our biggest risk is that we could have difficulty making the Tinkle Trainer module as thin and durable as required. Our prototype testing to date indicates to us that we should be successful, but we need to be able to manufacture it economically in large quantities with excellent quality. There are substantial marketing and distribution challenges all ventures must overcome - especially in the competitive retail world that our product targets.
There are certainly many other unknown challenges this venture will have to overcome.
We believe with this Kickstarter funding, we will have the momentum required to achieve our goals.
