Veterans were played to make them think they would receive money and increases in vet aid so they wouldn't bring up his Vietnam draft dodging during the campaign.

Now he doesn't need them anymore he went back to not attending veterans day events. After all, he's not a veteran.

Just like he never attended 9/11 memorial events down the street until he was campaigning for President.
