If someone uses the line: "Your attempting to make this sub look bad...", which you will see quite often here, it is a CTR talking point. Usually means your on to something. Just a heads up :) (self.conspiracy)

The psychology behind this talking point is that when someone reads that line, they don't want to be "lumped in" as being stupid, so they will disregard the post. Its quite amusing.

Let the vote system do the talking of what should make the sub look bad.

At the end of the day, most of us are just as closed off to new opinions as everybody else.

It does strike me as suspicious when people are accused of trying to 'make conspiracy theorists look bad'.

Some people act as if the conspiracy movement would be popular if only we removed flat/concave earth, climate change skepticism, germ theory skepticism, free energy theories etc.

The reality is that most people hate and despise anything that resembles a conspiracy.

Even in real life, I have discussed with people the fact that taxes do not fund spending, and people have called me crazy for saying it.

exactly, it's not a conspiracy in any way. In fact the mainstream media has acknowledged this several times.

So if people react badly to the fact that taxes don't fund government spending, how would they react if I told them about politicians being paedophiles, or 9/11 being an inside job?

Most people are simply not interested in conspiracies.

This is a dangerous road to travel! Instead of blanket statements about how one way of responding is being a shill, then we should all just try to hold each other to standards of evidence. Sometimes there are people on here posting things that are beyond crazy and that isn't even the problem. The problem is that they present not even a hint of evidence for their assertions. Conspiracies don't have to be completely proven, but you have to at least provide some sort of hint to why you think something so others can investigate for themselves.

So in cases that are just ludicrous we should be able to tell them that they need to shape up. We are all responsible for holding each other accountable here, that includes holding the shills accountable for their unsubstantiated nonsense.

Feel free to look at my comment history, it is clearly not CTR. If you want to bat around ideas, by all means, do so. But there's a missing element of "keeping your head" when you say Podestas abducted Maddie McCann. The ideas should be explored, but the overriding thought should always be, is this more likely than not?
