I am reminded of a day in my English class when my teacher(a woman) was teaching a poem("Aunt Jennifer's tigers") that was about an old woman knitting a tapestry but really had symbolic gestures of how she was ' oppressed' by patriarchy and how she found no meaning in her life etc etc. So my teacher goes on talking about how patriarchy is bad, how it 'oppressed' women, how men still don't give women equal rights, how rising rates of divorce are a sign of women's liberation, how women are just as capable as men blah blah blah blah. A few days later my friends and I were leaving school and we were about to get on the elevator(our class was on the 7th floor) when our teacher also got in the elevator with us. We were all waiting in line for our turn when she appeared. My friends, me and a couple of girls got in the elevator. A few girls were behind me in the line. Suddenly our teacher asked us to get out and let the girls outside on the elevator. She explained that it was' chivalrous' to do something like that. So all the guys had to take the stairs or wait for the elevator to come back. Not that it hurt me in any way, but I realized women act all strong and brave when they don't need us, but as soon as they need us they want us to help them. Proof women want everything, to feel that they are strong but they also want us to be their slaves whenever they need it.
