Wow this is incredible! Gotta hand it to whoever is running that operation, pretty sweet setup.

Oh, and the watermarks are fucking excellent.

Question, does the miner share your views about censorship? If so, WHY DOES SAID MINER RUN CORE?!? What is he/she waiting for!?

The Chinese miners are far removed from the world of bitcoin politics. They did not know about the block size debate, or what Bitcoin Unlimited was, but when I asked if they thought block size should be increased they responded in a "yeah... duh" kind of way. Which software they run is up to the pool, and the pools are watching.

OK, that's insightful thanks, any idea why they don't choose a pool that supports a blocksize increase then?

Which pool they mine on is largely a matter of guanxi and uptime and has nothing to do with their desired changes to the protocol. They want to focus on running their hardware and let the pool figure the rest out. I don't think they are even aware of what a big deal this debate is online.

How is this still possible at this late date? There was that mining panel at one of the conferences last year and there has been plenty of documentation even on Chinese forums of the debate.

The people running the hardware are not the same people who were on the mining panel. The people on the panel were from the pool & hardware side of things.

I thought this rural bitcoin mine was a joke but this is cool. Those watermarks are awesome.

Pretty incredible to know that operations like this are securing the Bitcoin network but also incredibly scary as well, barring none of these Chinese miners have malicious intent (which imo they shouldn't for the sake of their investment) . I can see why some are fearful of the mining centralization debate

This mining farm is about 1% of the total network hashrate, and I estimate a few million dollars of mining gear, plus whatever buying a hydroelectric dam and constructing buildings costs. I don't think it's so easy to centralize bitcoin mining.

Right but the real problem isn't the individual miners but the fact that a majority of the largest mining operations are located in China, people seem to be afraid that some of the pools could actually be the same entity without us knowing. I am not deterred by mining centralization, seeing large operations like this make me feel more safer than scared because it makes little sense for miners to do anything to Bitcoin that could harm it,

Actually operations like this are exactly what you want to see for the security of Bitcoin. It's an indication that even ordinary entrepreneurs, yes with money , call still set up mining pools. As opposed to the Intels of the world more likely to bend to the will of gvt.

Cool photos!

And great job with the water marks-- you are a genius. This is a fantastic way to promote this non-censored sub.

We need more new, fresh content like this with similar watermarks!

New content will go far!

damn (pun intended) they have to buy more electricity

Nice work with the watermarks.

I'm from /r/all can someone fill me in on whats going on with bitcoin?

what do you want to know? if you ask more specific questions, the folks here on r/btc will gladly help you out.

Why is their censorship in the first place? Why is it one specific mod? What does he censor from the subreddit?

Bitcoin is in the middle of a scaling problem. There are some who think that the blocksize limit needs to be removed and let the free market decide on what is an acceptable blocksize. Those who support this view, or even raising the blocksize limit to 2MB, were being censored on r/bitcoin. These people made their own subreddit r/btc so their voices could be heard.

The motives of the moderators on r/bitcoin are unknown. Many on r/btc believe that the mods have been corrupted and are being paid to push a narrative. Some believe that some bitcoin core (the currently running protocol) developers have been corrupted by venture capitalists and are putting their private business interests ahead of that of the bitcoin community, and have used censorship on the main bitcoin forum to push this narrative.

It is difficult to understand why anyone who supports bitcoin, an open and censorship free form of money, could support a censored reddit forum if they didn't have a hidden agenda.

Great work, thank you.

What exactly do the workers do? Are they paid well?

The operators of this facility purchased a hydroelectric dam

As in, straight up bought?!? 😮
