Looks like their skin is actually just bone.
I kid, I'm excited.
Cool. I'm excited.
Suppose it is kinda out of this world as well though, lol.
There are so many alien races, but when it comes to action, we are only involved with the less imaginative . For example, I was so excited to see where things went with the Rachni, but outside of conversations, there was nothing.
That's one of my main gripe with a series i otherwise adore.
Seriously though, I think I liked the concept art better. The ones with the more elongated heads would have definitely looked better. These guys still look to humanoid.
Edit: I'm assuming the ship in the PS4 Pro footage is theirs, because that was also similar to the Collectors.
Or are they all mono-gendered like the Asari?
Humanoid enemies make more sense from a game design and storytelling perspective. This way, they can convey emotions in ways more recognizable to the audience, and you have more options in terms of workable stories. Nonhumanoid enemies don't have that kind of flexibility.Originally Posted by Hellraider

I'll take it.

The human teeth bother me more tbh.
I mean these aliens come from environments where natural selection would favor different traits, right?
I think they need to approach these new species by asking "what features would It have had to develop to be come the dominant species on its home planet"
This is only true because no one ever bothers with trying to figure out how to generate empathy using non-humanoid characters.Originally Posted by Poodlestrike

Video games, more than any other medium provide an opportunity to teach the user how to relate to a character who operates using completely different displays of emotion.
It's just "lazy" to suggest that a alien from a completely different galaxy would not only look similar to humanity, but would also express emotion in a relatable way.
A lot of Mass Effect alien designs seem like things that, if it were live action, could mostly be done with prosthetics/animatronics/guys in suits. I think it's part of the aesthetic.Originally Posted by Poodlestrike
Was kind of worried from the snippets we'd seen before that they'd be too similar looking to the Collectors, but looking at them here aside from the chitin they don't look the same. Really digging the designs.

Tired patience, Elcor are funny but not really flexible.Originally Posted by nocturnalis

Yep. I love the design of Hanar, and I wish that Mass Effect would do a better job of making the aliens seem a bit more, well, alien. It would be nice if they'd ditch the humanoid bipeds.
