This is my biggest pet peeve on Reddit, especially subs like TwoXChromosomes. Nobody can discuss injustice towards women without an outraged Reddit man pointing out that the same thing happens to men...or that men have it bad too, e.g., rape is bad but what about false rape reports.

Sometimes the conversation is not about you!

The not-so-funny thing is that while yes, false rape reports happen, they're not nearly as much of an issue as men getting raped. People don't really seem to talk about that, including MRAs. If they do it's in jest.

people don't really seem to talk about that except when women talk about women getting raped and guys have to figure out a way to inject themselves into the conversation*

literally the only time i have heard it brought up ever is when there is something about a woman getting raped and someone has to chime in "WHAT ABOUT PRISON RAPE THO CHECKMATE FEMINISTS" "yeah that's terrible and we need to address that problem too--" "I SAID CHECKMATE TUMBLRINA"

I'm not even convinced they actually think it's terrible, they just think it makes them "even".

Any time I've heard someone bring up male rape, their point was that women rape just as much.

No dude, the majority of rapists are male, regardless of victim's gender. Heteronormativity knows no bounds.

Holy fucking shit. I remember this once here on reddit...There was a guy talking about his terribly abusive ex-girlfriend. Like abusive to the point that I was pretty certain that she would kill him. She'd already attacked him with a hammer or something. Anyway, he left her. He just got his shit and left one day while she was gone and ghosted. He got downvoted into the negatives. When I expressed my support and told him he'd done exactly the right thing...I was told, by other redditors that what he'd done was "cowardly" and he should have "been a real man." Please tell me again how feminists are the problem.

Fuck, what about false rape reports!? Some people think rape is worse than murder, so what about false reports??? False rape reports are statistically the least frequent false crime reports. What about women who are too scared of being accused of false accusations to report a rape that did happen? Thank you, choir, for letting me preach.....

Edit: Sorry, should I not be here?

TwoX is just a sub for men to talk about (or at) women now. It's so obvious how the sub's defaulting has affected the voting patterns and discussions.

It's Reddit. The conversation is always about men. Or, at least, how bad women are.

Very true about TwoX. I made a post there recently about how I embarrassingly had an orgasm during a vaginal exam. It got 3,500 upvotes, gold, and to top it all off, a flurry of pervy PMs wanting to know more about it. It disgusts me that it was turned into fap fodder. All I wanted was for other women to commiserate. I was naive.

Oh my god. I literally just slowly stopped chewing my apple out of shock. First, I'm sorry that happened to you. Like an erection, an orgasm is an involuntary physical response to stimulation. I'm sure your doctor understood and that it's happened more than once. I'm not sure if that helps or not but I hope it does.

Second, you didn't do anything wrong by sharing and you shouldn't be ashamed. You were using the sub for it's intended purpose and those dudes seriously have something wrong with them.

And not to mention how it's impacted places like trollx as well - way more feminist / serious content being posted here in an effort to at least have a space where women can talk to other women about these things.

Which means people constantly complaining about those topics being discussed here instead of stuff about periods, but like, where else can we go?

How about those lovely threads about FGM, that turn into men screaming about circumcision. Sometimes the conversation doesn't revolve around yo dick!

Yep.

Although that aside, it would be nice to see more people against male circumcision also. It seems like they're everywhere on reddit, but it's not really talked about much in mainstream media / IRL.

My thing is this I am fully against male circumcision, but when you are talking about FGM it would be nice to stay on topic.

also the two aren't exactly in the same class. they're both genital mutilation, but one is vastly more damaging to the infant.

[–]fawkes-trotI put the "fun" in dysfunctional.

Also, male circumcision is always done on infants (if it is not done for a legit medical reason like phimosis)... FGM can happen at any age, from infancy to late teens.

That's because the entire conversation is framed as MGM as practiced under the best possible conditions the USA vs FGM practiced under the worst conditions in developing countries. Here's a well written, referenced article explaining the issue. There's some fucked up stuff done to kids genitals, male and female, all over the world. Here's circumcision as practiced in Indonesia for a different perspective on MGM.

This is untrue. Muslims, South Koreans, and other cultures are NOT done as infants.

Not even phimosis requires circumcision, that's just crazy.

Yeah, that's where I stand too.

[–]MillieBirdieHow do trees get on Reddit?

All the hardcore anti-circumcision people I've ever met were mothers, and one single dude.

Except for locker room talk, cause then it is all men.

When #notallmen and #alllivesmatter just stopped when their president made them feel valid enough to say how they really feel. Where's the solidarity they were preaching about before cause I'm sure as hell not seeing any.

[–]Roger_Moore007I'm on a whiskey diet. I've lost three days already. 6

Can someone explain this for me, I don't understand?

It's a stereotype (which is apparently true, sauce: am guy) that guys don't like it when women are talking about legitimate issues that pertain to exclusively women where these guys feel compelled to swing the topic back to them, pretty much stepping all over the womens' issue. Read the thread on FGM. As a guy, I've experienced this as well, trying to talk about it and dickwads chime in about circumcision. It's basically hijacking the conversation because they think their opinion matters.

Why wouldn't their opinion matter? It only matters if they agree?

MGM and FGM are in the same category and it seems natural to me to talk about them both, if someone brought FGM in a conversation about circumcisions I wouldn't see a problem unless it was oppression Olympics.

It seems to me anti-FGM and anti-MGM are on the same side.
