"had to make a grinder account, jerk a few guys off to throw them off the trail"

Dave has this talent of being funny and vulgar as hell but also incredibly sincere and real. Always admired that about him.

His material always felt like "this is so sad so let's laugh instead" and this video especially. Thanks for the laughs, Dave.

I'd love to see him become the next Carlin. I really hope he's ready to be "back" because after this monologue people are going to crave more material.

It's good to have him back. That bit about the gorilla was gold

Dave Chappelle is still King.

Anybody else feel like Chapelle wasn't himself? He seemed more subdued for some reason.

he's just a little less energetic since he's in his 40s now. i love seeing how stand ups evolve as they age

I think the delivery was intentionally somber. After he gives the initial speech you can see some of the old Dave come out with "We've got a great show tonight!"

George Carlin went from introspective hippy to pure nihilism.

i remeber seeing him on Conan a while back. It was the first time I saw something new since Chapelle Show stopped. He's the same has he was on Conan but he's definatle slowed since Chapelle show.

He was definitely more somber and low-key. It isn't anything to do with his delivery these days; I saw his standup earlier this year and it was classic Chappelle.

Likely because he was on broadcast television.

Sorry, Lauren.

Lorne. As in Lorne Michaels. As in Dr Evil.

Interestingly I knew exactly who he was talking about, just had never seen her name written and assumed her name was Lauren Michaels.

Lorne Michaels is a man. You seem to have no idea who he is. And it doesn't really matter :)

Wouldn't it be nice if this speech United this country

He closed it in a particularly powerful way. There's no reason for us democrats to be combative like the republicans were after Obamacare was elected. We don't need another 8 years of obstructionism.

Let's take advantage of Trump being an 'outsider' and all come to the table to move forward. He ostensibly doesn't need to be beholden to the Republican Party (they abandoned him). He's a lifelong democrat and if he wants to make his presidency about pragmatism as opposed to partisan lines, I'll commend him for it. I didn't vote for him but I want trump to be a great president--but as the monologue concluded--I want him to be a president for all of us. He didn't get a majority vote. That does not delegitimize his presidency--he's the legitimate president elect. But he must come to the table ready to work--not impose. And the Democrats need to come to the table with the same attitude--ready to work not obstruct.

if he elects very conservative justices to the Supreme Court, does anything to roll back policy on climate change, I hope the Democrats obstruct the fuck out of him

Look, like Bernie said, if Trump wants to do good, that's great. But he's made a lot of promises that would fuck up a lot of lives, and choosing Steve Bannon as his chief adviser is ominous as hell, let alone all the vicious idiots he's shortlisted for his cabinet. His presidency is legitimate, but that doesn't mean we have to roll over. What other situation would you give a guy promising bad things the benefit of the doubt?

Fully agree. My only point is that we shouldn't be as crass and petulant as the conservative leadership was in 09

He ostensibly doesn't need to be beholden to the Republican Party (they abandoned him)

But then look at what he went and did after you made this comment.

My optimism is getting harder and harder to maintain.

Except that will never happen. Trump is horrible

I'm trying to be optimistic. He had done nothing but surprise us and he can really seal his legacy by breaking the mold

I understand your doubts but I'm trying to find a silver lining.

Steve Bannon will have a direct line to the president. I have no optimism.

I want to believe because I have no choice.

Dave Chappelle should be on the cabinet.

How come the threads with this video keep getting deleted? One was, like, #7 on r/all this morning and got deleted, and a thread before that one did as well.

This is the official SNL youtube channel the other one was just someone recoding off their tv and posting it online. I'm surprised it was up as long as it was.

did anyone else feel every Joke was a reality check?
