Just read that Steam is loading an update a little to late. It was reported that it is better after a restart.

That is not a serious bug, but a known limitation we are aware of, thank you for reporting it nonetheless! We'll get the character generator working as one of the next steps, along with levelups and some glitches in the battle system.

For now you'll have to play with the starting party, but we are aware that "rolling your own" is always more fun, so it is very high on our To Do list :).

So leveling up isn't working yet either? I hadn't even tried

yes, I know it's EA and I'm glad to support the development, so I purchased the game, though I still think it would have been better to delay the EA release until some basic gameplay elements are implemented and working. Anyway, good luck!

"Basic gameplay elements"? Come on. The combat system is in. The charactersystem is completely done, every dialog interaction is working, you can travel, hunt and look for herbs on your travels to brew them to potions (provided you have found the recipes), you can explore two different dungeons completely, with complete storylines there, there are four cities completely filled with life, locations, stories and quests, the equipment system is completely operational with boni and mali on your movement in combat, there are nearly a hundred different opponents you can meet and fight on your travels and more than 200 routes on the map that you can explore, with more than 250 events you can experience while managing hunger, thirst and sickness of your party. The trading system is completely functional, you can buy and sell more than 500 items, repair your weapons at blacksmiths when they break in battle (and they will), get sick on your travels and use healers in towns that get you going again. You can drink beer in the tavern and meet people you can ask about the world, hear racist jokes (What's an elf who bothered a dwarf while he was chopping wood? A half-elf) while enjoying the remastered music, rent rooms of different quality in the hostel (which affects how well you heal and recuperate over night), talk to NPCs that walk around town on their own schedule. I think I'll leave it at that, yes, levelups are not exposed to the new user interface yet, but even they are operational already, and we plan to do a two-fold approach, allowing for either "classic" checkbased levelups or "modern" simple buying levelups very quickly. Based on what I know about what is "implemented and working" in this game, I'd say "there is plenty to do ASIDE from levelups and character generation". But of course, this is what gets asked first, so it is very high on my priority list.

I didn't claim there is nothing to do, but in my opinion character creation and development is a basic, if not say crucial element of the gameplay of any RPG. My post wasn't intended as a complaint either, it just was a friendly remark. I'll wait anyway for them to be implemented and working, so I'd have waited as well a few days for the EA to be available.

Character development will be hard in Startrail, simply because the base system isn't like anything else, when it was designed the appeal of "regular levelups" wasn't something the designers had in mind - there will be a total of 5, maybe 6 levelups throughout the whole game, that is just the kind of system the dark eye is.

But you are right, levelups and character creation are very important nonetheless. And those "few days" would have denied me a plethora of other feedback we already collected, so I still believe the time was right :).

PS. Make the booby larger, maybe you will see one or two copies more....

Considering new parties are "intended" to gain an immediate two levels from the orc fight right outside the starting town I would say the ability to level up is much more critical than in Blade of Destiny. I hope leveling is enabled alongside the character generator otherwise parties of level one noobs are gonna have an awful time.
