Yes I am using a throwaway account because I am scared. I am a muslim man now with a president-elect who has gained power on a platform of support of white supremacy and islamaphobia.

The first day I was distraught and sullen. Today I am angry at the fact that half of America is ok with such hatred as long as they get a tax cut. I am angry at people telling me to give him a chance. I will not give the opportunity for a snake to bite. I don't know how people rationalize that it's ok other than maybe a coping mechanism? Or probably because they are not one of the many minority groups which he targeted throughout the campaign.

Please help me calm down. I can not go into work lashing out at every white man who makes comments about how nice he's being.

Some people were protesting last night. And they are trying all kinds of random petitions today. Many are not OK with this. Also the voter turn out is 55%, just told by another redditor in my feed, so that means only about 25% are supportive of this, another slightly larger 25% are not ok with this, the rest 50% is unknown. Dont forget there are also millions of illegal aliens and resident aliens who live and work around you but have no say in this matter.

I wish I could comfort you but I can't. Islamophobia has been legitimized and turned into official government policy.

The best possible case is if Trump does what Canadian Conservatives under Harper did in 2013-2014, when they made laws banning beheadings and multiple marriages as a petty gesture against their phantom imagination of what Islam must be like, even though obviously both those things are already illegal. In that case no one is affected and fools will be sated with pure nothingness. (Canada still has a healthy and vibrant Muslim community.)

Sadly, Islamophobia has been prevalent in the west for 10+ years. Coward politicians stoke tribal fears to preserve their golden toilet seats. The silver lining is that there's hope the left rejects it soundly from now on, whereas before I've seen plenty of western leftists being Islamophobic as well (think France).

    I am so so sorry. I completely understand where you are coming from - I'm black and I'm afraid too. I have Muslim friends and I've been hearing their stories for the past year about how much harassment they have been receiving from people - one of my friend's neighbors even spies on her family through their window. The neighbor has called the police on them multiple times for no reason. Please, just know two things - 1. You are not alone. You see these protests nationwide? People are as angry as you are - 52 million people to be exact. 2. All what we have to do is look forward. Be the best person that we can be and prove all of the people who oppose us wrong. We might get hate thrown at us here and there, but hey - at least they'll show their true colors now and we'll know who to avoid. Oh and by the way - it's not possible for Trump to "ban all Muslims", he even took the policy off of his site. Probably one of many policies he isn't going to do.
