I'll eat my sock if someone here actually has a detailed answer to this.

Sorry, usually the advice is related to US/Canadian and even rarely UK law.

If I were in a better mood, I might make something up. How would anyone know I was wrong?

UsuallySunnyButNotInThisPoliticalClimate, am I right?

I apologize and will see myself out.

That's funny. I laughed.

Let's just say it's already been a long week and leave it at that.

A semi detailed reply has been posted.

Pictures requested.

Did I say "eat my sock"? Because I meant to say "have a glass of fine wine in the bath and try to forget this week." I've got a terrible tremor, whoops.

Well, I'd better draw the bath, Im glad we all know the status of Swaziland bride selection now.

EDIT: and pictures will not be provided, but color me flattered.

I found the book that might have the answer but I'm not going to buy it just to force you to eat your sock ;)

I'm a cultural anthropologist. I've personally haven't done much research on Swazi culture, but you might be more successful looking into Hilda Kuper. She was a social anthropologist whose done extensive studies of the Swazi culture and has a book out on Swazi aristocracy. Just check Amazon.

Google.scholar might have some excerpts. But I think you'll have to do that research on your own, if you're really that into finding the answer.

Edit word. I'm tired sorry.

i'll admit you got me curious... so i checked google scholar myself and found an article by Adam Kuper on jstor.org I've only read the preview page, but as an educated guess i'd say it's based off old customs, mainly to strengthen ties within tribes and form powerful alliances.

Anthropologists have consistently cited marriage strategy as one reason for the success of the dominant Dlamini clan. Thus Hilda Kuper (1949: 17) pointed to Dlamini-Tembe alliances in the inital phase of state-formation, and continued

Diplomatic marriages continued to be made for national purposes. Wives were selected for Mswati from many subject groups, and marriage ties were created, not only with powerful chiefs but with insignificant commoners. (...)

These marriages yielded, in the first place, useful alliances. "Female relatives of the king are politico-economic assests to be judiciously invested. The more important princesses are given to as wives ti foreign rulers and non-Dlamini chiefs. A wise king recognises the value of bunini (kinship). It extends throughout the nation, linking him by blood an marriage with chiefs and commoner, wealthy and poor" (H.Kuper 1949:58, 60. Cf. H. Kuper 1978: 344-5)

taken from Rank and Preferential Marriage in Southern Africa: The Swazi by Adam Kuper

Thats all for the rest you'd have to use your own account to log into jstor or purchase the article

Keep in mind the studies are old. A lot could have changed but chances are, that a lot of the current regulations derive from old customs and traditions. As it is the same in western cultures.

I hang out here to specifically avoid reading stuff on JSTOR; thanks for this.

I don't think this subreddit is specialized in the laws of Swaziland, it's more of an american sub.

I am going to assume bribes.

[Swaziland] What is the process through which the first two wives are appointed to a Swazi King?

In Swaziland, the first two wives of a King are appointed by state councillors. How does this process work? Do they vote on who his wives are? Do the people get input on who his wives are? Do the wives get to run a campaign for brideship?

God dammit locationbot you should have Swazi and Swaziland as strings you're looking for.
