The up and coming politician was nervous, but excited to meet his predecessor. The retiring politician eagerly shook his hand, and showed him around his new office. The two talked for a while, and the conversation of advice, came up.
The incumbent politician opened a drawer, and pulled out two envelopes. "These are my gifts to you. Consider these your last resort answers. Open the one marked first when you run into a problem you can't find an answer to. The second, of course, is your last resort. "
The up and coming politician thanked him sincerely, and the two went their own ways. A couple of years past, and the politician finally found himself in a situation that he couldn't fix, and decided to give in to the first letter. It simply read: "Blame everything on me." So he did, and everyone forgave him, and the problem was swept under the rug.
Unfortunately, ANOTHER crisis happened to our beloved politician, this one potentially ruining his name. Under the pressure he cracked, and opened the second letter. It read: "Sit down. Write two letters."
