FBI Director James Comey Had Trump-Pence Campaign Sign in Front of His House in Connecticut

Embattled FBI director James Comey's mansion in upscale Westport, Connecticut, had a Trump-Pence sign on the front lawn as late as this past Sunday, according to photographs by neighbors who posted the pictures on Facebook.   

The local newspaper, Westport News, reported the sign had been removed after images of it “went viral.” The paper wrote, “The home, currently on the market for $2.5 million, is located on Westway Road and it is unclear if the controversial FBI head is living there. On Monday, Nov. 7 there was a car in the driveway and a garbage bag by the front door but no Donald Trump sign out front.”

The photo was posted by Chris Grimm and shared by Sandra Wilson, who wrote, “From Chris Grimm, ‘FBI Director James Comey's house is Westport Connecticut. Share, if you think that Comey was trying to swing the election to Trump. (Absolutely undoctored photo. I took it myself. I live a mile away.)’”

“I heard about it late yesterday from a friend of a Fairfield County, CT realtor (Comey’s house is apparently for sale and I don’t believe he’s living there—but how f**king stupid is this guy to not monitor what might be planted on his yard by family members or foes—doesn’t matter who…This guy is the fool of the nation today,” wrote a longtime Democrat who forwarded the links to AlterNet.

Ten days ago, FBI director Comey announced that the FBI had found emails from former Secretary of State and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton on a computer belonging to Anthony Weiner (the estranged husband of Clinton aide Huma Abedin), who was being investigated for sexting with a minor. That disclosure, followed by the FBI saying it would quickly review the emails to see if they contained any classified material, upended the election, broke Clinton’s steady rise in the polls following the three presidential debates and gave Donald Trump supporters new fuel to attack Clinton and campaign to keep their U.S. Senate majority.

Then, in a dramatic turnaround Sunday, Comey announced there was nothing new in these emails that the FBI had not seen before, making its intrusion into the contentious presidential race appear to be much ado about nothing. Still, it is illegal for agents to leak details about investigations, just as it is illegal for the FBI's director to engage in partisan electioneering under the federal Hatch Act.

Comey has now drawn the deep ire of Democrats and Republicans, both of whom are likely to pursue what happened behind the scenes at the FBI after the election. No matter how the Trump-Pence sign got on Comey’s lawn, it underscores that Comey’s tenure as the nation’s top law enforcement officer may soon end.
