On my playthrough, I recruited the Vault-Tec Salesman to live in one of my settlements. I assigned him to one of the shops and every time I went there, he kept telling me how happy he was to be there and just to be able to help.

Then one time I went through and he was dead. He was just lying there, with no explanation, and all the other settlers were just walking around him.

It really fucking bummed me out.

Is this a mod? Or does he actually survive the war? I'm about 80 hours in and thought that he got caught up at the gate with security and couldn't get into the vault.

Edit: I'm an idiot. I completely forgot where ghouls come from.

He's still Colonel Campbell to me, though.

edit: I will now half expect him to go "FISSION MAILED" halfway through asking him anything in fo4

Hmm, been there multiple times and never noticed him. I must be blind.

Spend a night at the Inn. He's one of the special shop keepers, where if you assign him to a specific type of shop in one of your settlements, he'll have really good stuff in stock other normal settlers won't.

I didn't know this, I had him as a farmer. Thanks! Lol

He's in the upstairs hallway. I don't know if he's always there, but he was on my playthrough. I think one of the hotel patrons makes a comment about another pre-war survivor being there besides you.

many ghouls are "survivors", most of them got dosed with rads so hard they immediately got stage 4 Poop Brain a la feral ghouls.

that being said the intense morph to a ghoul gives them an incredibly long life span and strong resistance to sicknesses, and there are prewar survivors who retained their intelligence, including the Vaulttech guy.

for example, there is a ghoul merchant who you can chat about the "good ol days" with because both of you were alive 200 years prior

I think the reasoning is that their flesh is so highly irradiated that it doesn't break down. And the cells in their body never die but they cannot heal or produce new ones so every injury or burn builds up until they look the way they do. Pretty sure I read that in a terminal somewhere but I don't remember which game it was.

I'm from GA, where prepper shelters and caches are really common. But I've wondered; if the preppers are mostly Republicans, do they see this as a good thing or time to resupply?

Maybe both. I know Trump supporters who admit to believing he's going to screw things up, but seem to think that if we have some chaos or even a civil war, it'll be a good thing because it'll "shake things up".

I think they've spent so much time prepping their bunkers, and they want to finally use them.

...See, Martha? That lifetime supply of slim jims is finally going to pay off this time. You'll see, when there is no food to eat when Trump nukes us all you'll be begging me to snap into a slim jim!.

Somehow, the second amendment will provide them the means to fight the United States Military.

The thing that most people don't realize when they think about this scenario is that it wouldn't be like the entire full strength of the US military on one side of a field somewhere, and a bunch of rednecks with hunting rifles on tbe other. People often envision planes and tanks bombing and slaughtering underequipped guerillas by the thousands. Not only would that not be the predominant form of battle, but even if it was, the US already lost such a war in Vietnam. Air supremacy, and more explosive ordnance and napalm than was used during the entirety of WWII, killing millions of such underequipped soldiers and civilians, and the US still lost.

If the United States can lose based on negative public opinion for killing even a few hundred thousand to a million civilians in a foreign country, what do you think is going to happen if they start killing millions on tbeir own soil? They would face a constantly swelling army of enraged citizenry. The armament wouldn't even matter anymore. How can you subjugate a populace if there is no one left to rule?

If the US started using military scorched-earth tactics on their own soil, their own people, they've already lost.

It depends on the nature of the conflict. We've already had one Civil War and it wasn't only "the citizens against the government". The Government really did split in two, the citizens were split as well. We basically were two nations, one side just kept hold of some of the infrastructure already in place. Fast forward to today and the side sticking with the already-in-place infrastructure would have a good advantage, though it'd still be a very bloody mess. I'd say it would be far, far worse than the last one we had because war tech has become so much more efficient. Furthermore, I wonder what would be the outcome for the military, as there'd be a split between those who "stayed loyal" and those who went AWOL to join the "rebels".

And keep in mind, there would be people on both sides, with armaments, training. Fighting would not wither just because of "public opinion" because we'd all be in the fight and fighting for what we believed (right or wrong) to be the only way, and fighting for our lives. Those who objected or questioned, on either side, might well be strung up as traitors.

I often hear that, but the military grunts, the ones that actually get shit done, they are people too, and I'm wondering just how much they would approve of shooting fellow Americans. Maybe I'm thinking too highly of them, but I think this would be far different than most would expect.

Likely some would defect, maybe with their tanks and guns. Mind you, I'm not saying everyone would defect, but in the same respect I don't think 100% of the military would be for wholesale murder on their family.

People act like it would be citizens vs military but it would be more like military vs military.

Soldier here. Wouldn't shoot fellow Americans. We don't have to follow any order that is illegal, immoral, or unethical.

Entire State Governments with their Militia forces (like the National Guard and Air National Guard) would likely side with a Rebel faction. Not to mention the Rebel faction could swarm and storm the Arsenals of State Governments that aren't friendly to them, akin to how the Athens, Tenn. Rebels got their gear.

To answer your question, I am both a prepper and an individual who supports Trump. I see no real risk of a nuclear war breaking out with Trump being president. I know of a lot of us who feel like he isn't very interested in having an aggressive foreign policy.

I hope this answers your question or at least grants you some level of insight you are looking for.

I'm less worried about him declaring open war than how his personality and foreign economic policies will affect how other countries perceive us.

I hope you're right, but I fear you're wrong. Trump has already talked about using nukes…

They've been told that Trump literally wants to round of minorities. The media fearmongering is fully entrentched because people don't even watch the debates they just read about it on a bias media source.

I mean, Trump openly stated that he will close borders to brown people. He claimed, not the media, that global warming is a Chinese conspiracy... There are valid reasons to be concerned.

published in the Fallout Bible but later considered non-canon.

Vault 69 was populated by 1 Male and 999 Female residents, all adult.

it's counterpart Vault 68 was populated by 1 Female and 999 Male residents, all adult.

That's the point of my question, you don't get to know beforehand.

Ooooooh, tough choice. Knowing what I know about them now at least. If I had been sold the vaults at face value as a place to go for safety and protection I'd likely be all for it. But knowing the truth of them, I think I might just tough it out above ground and either die or mutate.

I took it more as a 'world is going to end' bit, which would have still applied if Clinton had won, just to a different half of the populous.

I'm hoping it's an overreaction.

Course, the overreaction might be scarier th. . . wtf, am I even doing, lets keep memein. Memein ain't scary.

It is an overreaction. People act like Trump alone is running the country. Like we voted on a dictator or something

You're not wrong, but it's getting closer to the truth, because that's what people keep voting for;

http://freakonomics.com/podcast/u-s-presidency-become-dictatorship/

That said, there's still checks and balances, and the last 8 years has shown how much obstruction congress can engage in, so we'll see how it shakes out, but the president is more powerful than at any point in US history.

Edit: That said, I'm a bit more scared of overreaction, than I am of . . . exclusively Trump driven disaster? I guess.

Truuuue, but the House, Senate, and President will all be Republican, and Trump will be able to appoint how many Supreme court members?

Not good.

Yeah, but the Democrats had the House, Senate, and President for a time, and Republicans managed to block a ton of stuff. Mind you, executive orders get around that, but that's a more difficult, and politically dangerous route, and doesn't work for appointments. There is the . . . appointing while recessed, or some business that does a bit of an end around of congress, but that's also politically fraught.

Interesting times, any way you slice it.

I would hate to live in a vault. Cramped, closed spaces. No sunshine or fresh air. Having to live next to that angry old person who yells at me for running through the halls. Being tortured by whatever twisted social experiment Trump has in store for my vault.

Then again, it beats the mad max world we're about to all live in under Trump.

German here. Great fan of your country, USA but I think you need a new system. Trump is a protest vote, what everyone considered the lesser evil. A country should elect a candidate it actually wants. The same for my country.

He rallied a combination of our dying rural population and disillusioned young people, not necessarily a protest vote.

Good fucking lord I cannot escape the politics shit posting anywhere.

Fuck. I just want to read some reddit with out people whining about how we are all going to die because the other team won.

I agree..Damn election is over..I just want to go on and read some Reddit without hearing about it..Especially in r/gaming

That would be cool but... it's also kind of an unrealistic expectation. I mean this is literally the morning after the election, what do you honestly expect, given what you know about Reddit, the Internet, and people in general? Now might be the perfect opportunity to read that book you kept telling yourself you were going to read.

Don't worry lad, Hillary's war with Russia has been stopped... for now.

[–]euthanize_redditors 6ポイント7ポイント  (1子コメント)

Trump won, not Hillary. We literally just postponed this.

Except Trump is the one who has talked about restoring relations with Russia instead of "going after them" like Hillary Clinton has said she would do. You don't "go after" the strongest nuclear power in the world and not start WW3. We're lucky she did not win.

So Russia immediately congratulates him on winning this morning and announces Russias cooperation to repair relations and you think we're going to war why?

I know they brainwashed the USA but this is a symptom of Stockholm syndrome.

[–]King_of_Connaught 5ポイント6ポイント  (0子コメント)

At least we won't be going to war with Russia with President Trump. Hillary Clinton obviously harbors a hate for Russia, by scapegoating all of her shortcomings on "Russian hackers."

One candidate has opposed every single war. One candidate wanted to escalate Syria and have a dick measuring competition with Russia. Guess who won?

Now stop being so melodramatic

The amount of people that think Trump wants a war is too damn high, it's Hilary who kept threatening Russia and treating them like shit and Trump wants to work with Russia to relieve the tensions, that Obama started. You really need to learn the facts and not what you watch on CNN.

WW3 was actually a greater possibility had Clinton won.

Yeah, that whole no fly zone over Syria and Russia prepping their nation for potential WWIII if she wins was a little concerning.

I mean seriously, Hillary was the one pushing for war with Russia. This kind of uneducated political commentary, especially in a video game subreddit, is pathetic.

I'm probably not important enough to be in a vault :/

Many of the people chosen for the vaults were considered expendable. The whole point of the vaults was to run social experiments with the aim of determining what the social ramifications of a small populace confined within a space ship would be. The people that developed the vaults believed that the world after nuclear war would be so catastrophic that the planet wouldn't be habitable again, so their plan wad to start a colony on another world.

In short, being less than valuable would probably be a good way to get into a vault
