I teach three university classes today. I've made it clear to all my students that if they are pressed for time, I'd rather they vote than attend my class. If they send me a picture of them next to the "Vote Here" sign holding their "I Voted" sticker, then I waive any points they may miss.

Doing my part for the Indiana senate race and for the mandate. Voted last week myself.

I'm 35 and this year was my first time voting. I'm slightly embarrassed to admit it but I never felt I legitimately knew enough to make an educated decision before this year. It was the simplest process where they had me fill out a quick form while in line, asked for my ID and was on my merry way. It was a simple process and also one of the most satisfying.

Please get out and vote.

[–]mokasakinI voted 48ポイント49ポイント  (0子コメント)

I feel exhausted when I try to imagine how it must feel to be Trump or Clinton, today. Say what you will about their character or fitness for office, they have both campaigned their hearts out in the best way they could, for themselves.

It is a brutal process, this multi-year campaign cycle and it takes a certain amount of masochism to willingly subject yourself to such punishment.

Of course, I think this year has been particularly hard on the voter as well. So divisive and severe.

It doesn't end, today, but at least it shifts and for one of the candidates, they will get a real break. Congrats to both.

First time voter. I woke up extra early to avoid the lines just to see what challenges I would face. Im not ganna lie when I say I was kind of scared of the unexpected.

They ask for your address and your name and just direct you to a poll and you select your candidate and press vote. Takes about 30 seconds. That was alot easier than I ever expected that when I casted my vote, I really couldn't believe it was just that simple

Democracy is beautiful

My fellow Americans,

I love all of you.

Even those whose ideas and convictions I find utterly repellent and loathsome, as human beings I care about you.

I ask only one thing of you: do no harm to your countrymen and women. We are brethren, regardless of skin, or gender, or education, or belief. We must not harm one another to achieve political ends. If we do that thing, we are no longer a nation with any semblance of greatness.

I, living in Florida, convicted decades ago of felony, cannot vote today. For anybody. So I come here now only say this:

Love your neighbor.

I voted for the democratic ticket all the way down. I have a child with cancer. Without the ACA and other government programs my family would be financially ruined. Without the ACA my son might not be able to get healthcare as an adult due to pre-existing conditions. Regardless of who you support make sure you get out and vote. Either way this thing turns out, lets find a way to clean up our entire system. The Propaganda machines, the money in politics, and the overall greed at the top are the real issues the we need to work on. I love this country and I think its great already. It can get better though. Love your neighbors. Love each other.

[–]HotKrispyKremes 10ポイント11ポイント  (1子コメント)

Married to a Brit myself, so I follow British politics now as well as my own. I was really frustrated at the Brexit vote, and felt quite angry. I wasn't even sure why at first that I was so worked up about it, but after reflection I think it's because as an American hoping for more progressive policies in our country I look up to Britain as being the more sensible nation. Brexit was a harsh slap in the face that the less educated could have that much power to severely hamper a prosperous nation.

Trump's like the note 7 from Samsung, both Samsung and it's fans never expected something like note 7 would happen, but it did, and they clearly want the world to forget that such a model existed and try to fix it's reputation.

Just voted in South Carolina. Took about an hour.. I have a question though for anyone who can answer. We were asked which party we were voting for by the person scanning our id's then given a red or blue ticket that blatantly gave away who you were voting for. is this even legal? When you went to the machine the card literally had nothing to do with the process.

[–]MyWordsKillFascistsI voted 10ポイント11ポイント  (2子コメント)

If that happened inside the polling place, I think it's very questionable whether it is legal and would suggest reporting it.

If it happened outside, it's probably just exit polling.

Either way, you are NOT required to respond. You never have to reveal your vote in this country.

[–]boomhaeurI voted 44ポイント45ポイント  (5子コメント)

An interesting stat I forgot about mentioned on The Upshot

| Clinton Will Lag In Popular Vote

| Hillary Clinton will trail in the popular vote for much of the night because the West Coast and the urban East will take longer to count votes.

This is going to create a ton of /r/the_meltdown fodder if they call it for Hillary while she lags in the popular vote count. In 2012 they called it for Obama @ 10pm but he didn't get into majority popular vote territory until after 1am.

[–]kitlerI voted 21ポイント22ポイント  (0子コメント)

[–]Antnee83 130ポイント131ポイント  (23子コメント)

Long read, but I hope you read it.

Happily casting a ballot today for Clinton/Kaine. Funny thing about her; she has horrible approval ratings on a campaign trail, but her approval skyrockets when she holds an office. Why? She's socially awkward, but she gets shit done.

Trump, on the other hand, is not only a vile (and I mean TRULY vile) human being, but his policies belong in a children's coloring book.

Republicans on my list, your party has to do better than this next time around. Hold them to task. Drop this "culture wars" bullshit- you've lost. Be a socially liberal, fiscally conservative party that actually functions instead of kicking and screaming like toddlers because you think America was better in the 50's.

Or just continue thinking that their not-so-subtle racist/sexist attitudes are going to win on a national level at any time in the future. Guys like me- who take all sides into consideration- will never, EVER pull the "R" lever so long as they represent oppression, willful scientific ignorance, and faux outrage at the working class.

Those of you who who are considering voting third party because you think "both parties are the same", I have three words for you: Paul Fucking LePage. Lets fix the process before we start pissing our votes away- like what we're doing in Maine with Question 5.

I also get to vote on Marijuana Legalization today. I've been to jail for it- it's the most dehumanizing and stressful experience I've ever had in my life. Those of you who are considering voting no on Question 1 because you're concerned about who gets the most money? GO FUCK YOURSELF. Sit in a cell, and then tell me that you're still going to quibble over money! Money is not the issue here- basic human decency is.

But above all, no matter how disgusted you are with this election cycle, go vote. Vote for congressmen, senators, local politicians, ballot initiatives. So much more than the presidency is on your ballot, no matter where you live, and those things impact your life just as much.

Go vote, shitheads!

(c/p'ed from my Facebook post this morning)

[–]KrimzonK 63ポイント64ポイント  (12子コメント)

Shes not socially awkward - she just tries too hard. Shes like that student who get straight As, and argue with the teacher for remarks when she got an A-. She feel overwrought and too rehearsed. Her methods are greyish and you never going to see her heart on her sleeve.

Maybe thats not the president who write rousing speeches, but you can bet shes going to get shit done

The Candidate

Sung to the tune of The Piano Man

It's nine o'clock on Election Day

And the first round of voters role in

There's an old man sitting next to me

Obsessing over polling and spin

He says, "Trump, can you bring me a victory

Though I’m not really sure how it’d go

And you don’t need to cheat, I know you’d compete

If we just got rid of that ho."

La la la, di da da

La la, di da da da dum

Spin us a lie, you're the candidate

Spin us a lie tonight

Well, we're all in the mood for a victory

And you've got us lookin’ for fights

Now James at the bureau’s a friend of mine

He gets me my leaks for free

And he's quick with a joke or to blow me some smoke

But he’s run out of help to give me

He says, "Trump, I believe this is killing me."

As the smile ran away from his face

"Well I sure love directing the FBI

But they’re running me out of this place"

Oh, la la la, di da da

La la, di da da da dum

Now Paul is a half-assed supporter

Who’s balanced on the edge of a knife

And he's talkin' with Romney, who's still piling on me

And probably will be for life

And Kellyanne’s practicing politics

As Mike Pence slowly gets stoned

Yes, they're sharing a drink they call hopelessness

But it's better than losin’ alone

Spin us a lie, you're the candidate

Spin us a lie tonight

Well, no one here expects victory

But we’ve gotten ready to fight

It's a pretty good crowd for Election Day

And Melania timidly smiles

'Cause she knows that it's me they've been comin' to see

To forget about blacks for a while

And the speech, it sounds like a dog whistle

And the microphone (finally) rings clear

And they scream “Hillary behind bars!” and put bread in my jar

And say, "Obama was never born here!"

Oh, la la la, di da da

La la, di da da da dum

Spin us a lie, you're the candidate

Spin us a lie tonight

Well we're all armed for a revolution

And the 2nd gives us that right

Good luck, America. You'll need it no matter what.

But seriously. Thank god this is almost over. Pretty sick of it.

This election has seriously been bad for my mental healthy and I'm not even an American/voter.

Voted for HRC about a week ago from the reddest state in the union: Kansas. If I got out there and voted, you can too. It counts.

[–]Kilen13 13ポイント14ポイント  (2子コメント)

Voted last week but already up with a big mug of tea driving some older folks to the polls.

I don't care who you vote for just please vote, and if you can take some time to get others to vote today.

Decisions are made by those who show up.

Arrived 15 minutes before pills opened. Stood in line for an hour. A small drop of blue in a sea of red.

And so it ends. Greetings from Argentina and please vote well americans. I'll just copy paste what I wrote in another thread some days ago:

"man, I'm a foreigner as well. Some people may recognize me I post a lot here.

It's not only American politics that is at stake here. For better or worse, what America chooses defines much of how the whole world will be the next 4 years. Climate change, international relations, wars, civil rights, equality, prosperity, tolerance and of course the economy are on the line. Sometimes, of course ironically, I believe the whole world should be allowed to vote in the American elections.

To the vast majority of Americans in this thread and sub: please make the right choice. The rest of us can't choose, and we depend on you to carry the world to a fairer, more equal, cleaner and more tolerant place. Get out there and vote, and if you got an extra minute in the day, think of all of us that depend on you!"

Every pro-Trump commercial is the most dramatic I-just-learned-Adobe-two-hours-ago thing ever. Grayscale, big text, needs more cinematic overlay, zoom, MORE ZOOM

I've already ugly cried twice today.

I watched the news this morning over a perfect cup of coffee, looked out the window at this perfect cold sunny November morning in Massachusetts, and realized that in less than an hour, I would cast my vote for the first woman President of the United States. It wasn't one of the reasons that I voted for Hillary Clinton, but it carries no less weight in my heart.

As a woman, as part of the first generation to ever get to vote for a woman for POTUS, this is an emotional and momentous day.

I'm overseas and going to bed soon. Please let me wake up to a President Clinton.

Walked to the polls 15 after they opened. Stood in line for an hour. Haven't had that experience since 2008. I guess that's a good turnout for my precinct.

/For those asking - Fairfax County VA, 8th district.

I voted for Hill-Dog. I'm in Central NJ, where if you didn't know any better, you'd think the entire state was going for Trump. There are dozens of Trump lawn signs out there and no Hillary ones. I think the hardcore Trump supporters are louder about their support, but I do believe there is a silent majority of Hillary supporters out there.

There's nothing we can do but wait at this point. Hopefully the rest of the country does the right thing.

Do you think trump supporters will actually do anything when they lose?

[–]NeilPoonHandler 10ポイント11ポイント  (1子コメント)

Just voted for Hillary in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Every parking space was full, and the line was out the door. I waited in line for 40 minutes - by far the longest line I've been in to vote. No issues, though. :)

[–]NotEvenCreative 9ポイント10ポイント  (9子コメント)

Currently trying to vote in Florida, 10 people including myself are being turned away because "our party is not eligible to vote". The poll workers are stating it is a glitch in the system and that they simply can't fix it now. You bet my ass will not move from these polls until this is resolved. Absolutely ridiculous!

[–]GuestCartographerI voted 23ポイント24ポイント  (2子コメント)

Holy shit, you guys. We actually made it to election day. I was a little worried that the entire country was going to be crushed to death under the sheer volume of embarassment that this campaign has generated.

Get out there and vote, everyone.

[–]zenz3ro 23ポイント24ポイント  (9子コメント)

Listen guys, we in the UK just condemned our nation to death, because we couldn't motivate people to do the right thing. Please vote. The world depends on it.

[–]TheRealDynamoScotchI voted 20ポイント21ポイント  (9子コメント)

I'm about to go get in line so that I can vote before I start my day teaching! The hardest part of today will be dodging the endless "Who did you vote for?" questions from my students as the day goes on.

They should know better and use proper grammar when asking "For whom did you vote?"

Edit: It's done! Gimme my flair?

Welp kiddos, this New Yorker has done his civic duty. Clinton for president, Schumer for Senate, and Meng for house of reps.

[–]The_Big_Lebaneski 19ポイント20ポイント  (5子コメント)

I hardly think Amy Schumer is qualified to run for any kind of political office but alright

They're interviewing Donnie Jr on MSNBC right now.

In some ways he's more terrifying than his father because he actually has a modicum of charisma to him. But I do think it is telling that when they asked him what his "favorite path to 270 is", he couldn't give a direct answer.

I voted in Earlysville, VA today. I witnessed no thuggery, no intimidation, and no attempts at influence from either side. I believe in America, Americans, and our ability to vote this knuckle dragger back into the sleeping bag-sized packet of cheetos from whence he came.
