I haven't posted here in a while, but I've been a long time lurker. I'm sorry that this post is going to be focused on America, but this is an important situation that needs to be addressed. The american left is failing at effectively organizing and resisting neoliberalism and fascism. With the election results looming and neither possible result acceptable, we need to learn from recent failure and form a plan of action. There have been many opportunities for engaging the people politically in the past few years (namely Bernie fans, Black Lives Matter, the Occupy movement, etc.) where liberalism dominated and movements fizzled out. In direct opposition, the far right has grown in the wake of Trump and successfully gained a mainstream voice. In large part they succeeded due to their ability to give direction to general anger at the establishment while appealing to fear and racism. The message and principles of communism are positive and provide direct answers to the problems facing the people of america, and yet people still are drawn to fascism. How do we turn this around?
We need presence and organization. We need something besides the CPUSA. We need a broad reaching principled organization with a media presence that has members willing to engage the public and present revolutionary ideas. We have to create an alternative to liberalism and not at some future date when conditions are ideal. We have to focus not on arguing the authenticity of long dead political figures and get moving on putting a narrative of hope out there for the public to see. Despite multiple organizations existing where I live I very rarely hear about them outside of strictly leftist publications and circles. I'm no help since I am just as guilty of political laziness, but it's hard to believe with everything going on that the left hasn't been front and center. Apathy will be the death of us unless we can reflect and create an organization with the power to change the conversation from choosing a lesser evil to a conversation of how we defeat evil and create something revolutionary.
I'm not nearly eloquent, outgoing or connected enough to get something going, but I wanted to brainstorm what options we as the left have and what personally to do. I'm tired of being a bystander as I watch the world suffer.
