As a bi guy who will most-likely have to move to the US for work, I am truly terrified of the outcome of the election today. Watching the polls tonight seemed like a travesty of what I expected from reasonable and rational Americans. I'm stunned, I've read many articles about right-leaning America, but I thought it was either fringe or less common. Maybe I overestimated how reasonable people are but I'm doing my best not to change my mind.
In Canada, I have the same rights to be married to my theoretical boyfriend and get most of, if not all of the benefits a straight couple would. Even when marriage equality was passed in the US in 2015, there was still great opposition. Even though it is federal law, people in government like Kim Davis are still able to restrict it. Under Trump, this and similar situations will be not only generally allowed, but encouraged — I'm scared anti-lgbt politics will go further than a mere overturning of marriage equality.
