Default Indian Brackish Puffers

A friend of mine recently recieved some really interesting Puffers, took some pics of them so thought i'd post 'em.

This species was caught 200km upstream from the coast in a district of Karnataka in South India, looks like a brackish sp but was caught in pure freshwater. Can't tell about the species but it has an oddly narrow and pointed snout. Might be undescribed too, but its very pretty, the pics don't do it justice.

Two more species coming up soon.
Cheers!

This is a perfectly healthy specimen and doing very well in FW, I wonder what you mean about being posted in the 'dead' puffer thread ? Did you mean that as a joke? Ceylon Puffers have fully rounded faces whereas this has almost a dog like face, see the frontal and dorsal pics.

Already posted there and NO one seems to know what it is yet.

Puffer thread #6. Thats what i mean. "Dead' meaning that the thread is hardly patronised. Simple.

Just said that it looks like a ceylon but it is not N the ceylons face looks really similar to this. So does the Giant puffer (tetraodon sabehensis) Simple.

Anw the markings on this puffer is completely different from the ceylon or the giant puffer

That's the OP's prerogative

Not so simple, if you see the dorsal view the head narrows out, I dunno how many Ceylon you've seen but I've seen thousands in all sizes and their heads are rounded not even oval.

Please compare this pic of a 'true' Chelonodon patoca aka the Gold Spotted Puffer

I'll request bro Banjohead to take more head shots.

To drive home my point that there is absolutely no similarity between Banjohead's puffer and the usual Chelonodon species seen. Just compare the head shapes.

Some Ceylons to share aka Chelonodon fluviatilis

Hi channabarca,

Thank you for your postings. I didn't know that there are so many sp of puffers in brackish water. Probably never interested in them.
