Very partisan xkcd today. Not really complaining, it's just interesting since he doesn't usually take sides in these sorts of things.

Personally I'm not that surprised. It might be the most partisan, but it's definitely not the only one that's opinionated, nor is it the only one that didn't feature any kind of a joke. I think that the other ones simply had more popular opinions on them so (most) people didn't care.

As a Trump supporter I honestly don't have the capacity to be salty about it. Randall's made so much impactful and relatable stuff in the past however many years that finally putting out something I largely disagree with is barely a chink in the armor. He might have different political views but I'm still convinced that he's a great guy.

It's nice to see an open Trump supporter not get downvote to oblivion. I hope people can get along with each other regardless of who they vote for. Maybe it'll be easier for people once the crazy rhetoric ends.

Well it's not surprising that a very anti science campaign would not sit well with a scientist.

Are you sure? I was under the impression that truckloads of salt were a key ingredient for #MAGA. /s (so much /s)

Believe me, I hate those kinds of people as much as liberals hate third wave feminists. If anything I take solace in the fact that, even in this incredibly polarized and divided country, most people on both sides aren't at /r/the_donald levels of extremism.

ten feet higher, all mexicans are secretly muslim, clinton did 7/11

It always makes me happy for some reason to see Trump supporters who disavow extremism and over-the-top language, and just act like normal people. You may support a person I'm disgusted by, but you accept that disagreeing doesn't make one a monster, and go about your business. Kudos for that.

On the other hand, this is unlikely to change anybody's mind. Without the first panel, this would still have the same effect of getting people to vote. It's kinda obvious that Randall isn't supporting Trump already. I'm not sure that the endorsement was necessary.

I'm no Trump supporter, but I am complaining.

Boo.

First time Randall does a political endorsment right? But I guess this isn't a normal election.

Not the first time: https://blog.xkcd.com/2008/01/28/obama/

Interestingly, he actually complains about Clinton in this post.

... when questioned [Clinton] seems baffled that anyone would have a problem with what is, by any reasonable standard, bribery. I find her basic lack of integrity troubling, and I think as president she would continue fighting to maintain the status quo. It’s vital that we start the work of picking up the messes left by the irresponsible governance of the current [Bush] administration, and, as they say, you don’t get out of a mess with the same kind of thinking that got you in.

[–]YUNoDiePossibly a haberdasher? 253

If the Republicans had nominated literally anyone besides Trump, I would probably be against Hillary. But given the alternative, I voted for HRC in my absentee ballot.

On the one hand, it's hard to imagine how you go from harsh criticism to full-on support. On the other hand, that's exactly what Hillary Clinton did with gay marriage and gun control so this might make perfect sense.

It's just the reality when you only have two choices at the polls. You choose the best one. On election day and in the ballot box is not the time or the place to be an ideologue. That time was in the months and years beforehand

Maybe it's because the alternative is so much worse - He can't afford to only partially support.

This is still so relevant today. Troubling indeed.

Nominating Clinton would be continuing that tradition at the very time when we have a chance to do so much better. Let’s not let that chance slip by.

No chance to do it better this time around.

[–]PM_UR_GINGER_TRAITS 91ポイント92ポイント  (0子コメント)

  • Vote Trump
  • create chaos
  • have nationwide support to overthrow government
  • seize the memes of production
  • instal glorious communist leader
  • #StillSanders

(Please don't actually do this)

I think pretty much everyone has their complaints about Hillary (even people voting for her). It's just that she's infinitely better than the alternatives. People who do dishonest things to get in a position of power, if they are qualified, are better than people who are not qualified at all.

[–]shotpunI've read the whole comic but idk who these flair characters are

I see where you're coming from but the point that people who don't support Clinton make is that doing dishonest things to get in a position of power inherently disqualifies you from being qualified for said position of power - or any position of power at all. Obviously it's a nuanced point but I'm just playing devil's advocate here.

[–]RockChalk4LifeI post things on the internets and feel smart. 81

I just want to point out that kind of reasoning can be applied to Trump as well. His track record with being honest and transparent is pretty bad.

I am not sure I agree. I would rather someone who is less qualified but honest and has the ability hire a qualified team instead of someone who was dishonest but knows how the game is played.

Why would you believe someone who was dishonest would have your best intentions at heart?

I am not siding for one candidate or another, but to put your faith in someone who is not trustworthy instead of someone inept seems dangerous. I'd rather have a lame duck than a snake.

I don't think that she is an inherently dishonest person, my comment didn't really reflect that. I believe that she is willing to do dishonest things in order to become president. There's a pretty large difference IMO, and while it's difficult to assume that the dishonesty will stop in office, it's better than electing someone who doesn't know the basics of nuclear warfare and has said that lethal injection is "too comfortable".

And before anyone brings up Hillary's past with nuclear warfare: I know. I don't believe in using peoples' pasts against them, because people can and do change their beliefs (even if it may be political).

it is not interesting, there aren't really better options, so while he doesn't like her, in his eyes she is still better than the rest

[–]DavidRFZWhite Hat 81

The swordfighter from #303 makes an appearance. That's one of my favorites.

The scary part is that, unlike previous elections, Randall can't even seem to bring himself to joke about this one, his underlying opinion notwithstanding.

desperate times call for desperate measures I guess. Wish there was still a joke, but I suppose the whole campaign season has been pretty funny.

I'd say not really. It's exhausting. More so than in the past. Even the onion is having difficulty with it.

I don't get this one.

(It's for Hillary? I'm not gringo)

Yeah this one's not even a joke. It's just Randall straight up showing his support for Hillary.

"I'm with Her" is Hillary Clinton's campaign slogan and the stylized "H" with the arrow is her campaign's "logo".

Yep, the title is her campaign slogan and a few links to help you go out and vote.

Man, I respected Randall for his impartiality. I don't care who you support, but why push it on people like this? It feels "dirty" and not at all in the spirit of the comic.

Because the future of the country is more important than preserving the spirit of the comic.

yeah seeing an outright political endorsement on xkcd just feels... odd? I'd probably be even more confused if Randall was endorsing Trump but him endorsing either way just... kinda leaves a bad taste?

I think that most people who read XKCD are pragmatic enough not to be trump supporters.

Eh, this comment section speaks otherwise I guess. I'm constantly surprised just how many trump supporters are out there.

I wouldn't go that far. However, I do believe most readers would be able to have a discussion over their differing beliefs instead of the usual screaming.

You're probably right, which is why the comic is more of a "hey, I know most of you agree with this so get to the polls!" than an argument for the candidate.

there is at least 1 in this thread

This is without a doubt, the worst xkcd I've ever seen. No jokes, no trivia, nothing but "vote for Hillary". Even if I agreed to Randall's choice in candidate, this is not the place to be pushing a political agenda.

Its his comic he can do whatever the fuck he wants with it.

Sure he can, doesn't mean we have to like and support that decision.

Still doesnt make it a great comic.

[–]DFGdangerThis is the best xkcd ever! 151

Make xkcd great again

not great != the worst xkcd

He certainly can. And I certainly can stop reading it.

Didn't know webcomic authors were prohibited from publishing an opinion

This is a blatant violation of the Webcomics Act of 1886

That was repealed in 3421.

They're not. But still not a great comic.

[–]YotsubaSnakeLook! They have scones! 69

Most elections he doesn't. This election is not like most elections, however.

If he's thinking anything like I am, the fear of a egotistical, racist, sexist, xenophobic person taking the highest position in the land is more than enough to get me to vote against him. Heck, when Glen Beck starts saying we shouldn't vote for him, it should make you think as to why. I'm not with her as much as I'm against him.

You don't get to tell him what his comic is "the place" for. If you don't like it, don't read it.
