I miss my naivete about politics. When you could give me a tagline style description of the political parties and I could believe it. The Republican party stands for small government! It's a nice idea...

Yeah, I miss having a party that I could, you know, support...
The good news is that hopefully Trump's defeat will destroy any legitimacy the alt-right/reactionary crowd has within the party.

I miss "politics as usual" because you know what that involved evil "backroom deals" that involved some measure of compromise and shit actually getting done.

Then the right started electing idealogues who never compromise. Not never compromise on their most closely held ideals, never compromise on fucking anything. Like that stupid fucking Grover norquist pledge. No. Sometimes raising taxes a little bit is necessary, because we do need to pay for shit.

Tangentially related side note, I did yesterday see the absolutely stupidest political add about how 'under congressperson x taxes went up by y million dollars.' It didn't say that the guy voted for an increase in tax rates, it didn't even claim tax rates went up at all. You know what else causes tax revenue to go up, though? People having more money to be taxed. But 'x million more in taxes' sounds scary, I guess. /Tangential rant.

The whole ideologue thing is why I was never as big on bernie (and can't stand the Greens, despite definitely being to the left of the Democratic party). Had similar whiffs of ideological purity that seem to be killing the right.
