This is a particularly important election though. We have a supreme court seat open and have one or two other justices that seem primed to retire. If the next president were to decide three justices in their term then they would be deciding the course of the country for like the next 35 years.

They could overturn citizens united or overturn the right to gay marriage or make 100 other fundamental changes to the law of the land.

I saw two paths for him:

  1. Hope for the best with Hillary. The system sucks, but won't ruin the country. Hope that his ideals make some amount of minor change. Hope that it helps down-ballot votes.

  2. Upend the system. Run as an independant. Continue to say she is the reason why things are bad and we can't just cite her experience and say that's presidential enough. Create a new party that possibly had a better chance of sticking than our current 3rd parties.

  1. Get liberal politicians in his state to a super majority of state congress. Run a successful bid as governor and push massive reforms through the state legislature. Years later cite these reforms as proof that you can deliver and run as an independent in the general election. Have a successor lined up in case you croak.

I have no delusions of Hilary being anything like Bernie. I hate her so much. I know she'll flip flop on every Bernie platform she's promised.

However, I'm in a swing state. And there is a very good chance Trump could win this thing. I don't want Trump to make gay marriage illegal again. I don't want him to waste a ton of fucking money pretending to build a wall just to prove he can. But most of all I don't want him or the Republican Party to choose up to three new Supreme Court justices. So, I'm probably going to suck it up, and vote for Hillary.
