Our View: Trump's conservative views make him the best choice

As we near the end of a very tumultuous election season, Americans have a very difficult decision to make. Some are not happy with either of their choices, but decide we must. Despite his unorthodox campaign, the Avalanche-Journal feels that Donald Trump is conservative Lubbock’s best choice.

A political outsider and a successful businessman may be exactly what we need to carry the country forward in the coming years. Americans cannot take another four years of big government, the Affordable Care Act and foreign government hand-holding. What we know we need is someone who won’t take no for an answer, a person who isn’t worried about the popularity of his position with the general public.

In conservative Texas and even more conservative Lubbock, our beliefs align with the Republican Party that supports smaller government and trade agreements with foreign countries that benefit Americans more than they benefit the other country. We need agreements that will support our farmers and our agricultural community.

We need to support the candidate who will fight for the ideals that made this country great — someone who will draw a line in the sand and won’t back down from a fight. We need the candidate who will encourage free trade and individual enterprise, someone who will be tough on border control and will be stringent about vetting those wishing to enter the U.S. to live, and someone who is absolute in their belief of freedom of religion, the ability to choose your own health care and someone who will support your constitutional right to bear arms.

Trump is serious about his love for this country and his ability to lead. That became clear when he made the solid choice in Mike Pence as his running mate and when he listed several impressive conservative judges as possibilities for the Supreme Court.

Trump has struck a chord with the “everyman” — some who haven’t voted in years or who may never have voted are now motivated to go to the polls on Tuesday. He’s done it by dialing in to the general public’s disdain of the current leadership. Trump offers something different. And to those fed up with eight years of President Barack Obama and the continuous failures we’ve witnessed throughout Hillary Clinton’s career, they’re ready, as we are, to take the leap into the unknown rather than four more years of the status quo.

We owe it to our country and to our future to make the nontraditional choice by electing Donald J. Trump as president of the United States on Tuesday.

Wow!

This will make the third Presidential Election you will have been completely wrong with your endorsement.

You get to join the short list of newspapers who have endorsed Trump.

"These Are the Only 6 Newspapers in the Country to Endorse Donald Trump

No candidate has ever received so few endorsements. So what were the Waxahachie Daily Light, the Santa Barbara News-Press and others thinking? "

Read more: http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/10/donald-trump-newspaper-endorsements-214390#ixzz4PCnJiiS8 Follow us: @politico on Twitter | Politico on Facebook

Update: two more MAJOR newspapers will announce Trump support tomorrow, and with the A-J that will bring the total to 9.

Amazing.........

embarrassed and ashamed

Wow is right.

I expected a judicious silence from the AJ on this presidential election.

Conservative Lubbock and conservative editorial board or not, it is impossible to understand how a group of semi-educated newspaper persons could be so ill-informed as to make such an endorsement and to explain it in such preposterous terms.

I am embarrassed and ashamed. This is not my city and this is not my newspaper. If the person endorsed prevails, this shall not be my country.

There's one born every

minute, and a lot are born in Lubbock.

There's nothing conservative about Trump, and most of the rest of the reasons given for endorsing him are made up too.

If Trump could just be the Trumpeteers' president, I'd say good for them, and they deserve what they get. However, that is not the case.

A lack of intelligence, integrity, or both?

Proving you are the lousy hypocrites I have called you for years.

The first paper I ever read quit hitting my driveway 15 years ago.

And I will stand by that endorsement and continue to hack your online edition.

It will be so much better

to have a president who sold her soul along with access to the State Department to the highest bidder. If you think breaking news about her scandalous ways will stop on Nov. 9th, you have another think coming. She's so entrenched in dishonesty and corruption that she doesn't know any other way. There's plenty of proof of what she's done, nobody had to make it up.

He ain't an angel, but he's dang sure the lesser of the two evils.

Who did you expect the A-J to endorse?

Trump's soul has been sold

Trump's soul has been sold for a long time. And he's trying to sell it again.

If you believe Trump will do what he says he will, then he is frightening. Otherwise, he is frighteningly ignorant.

Trump has the worst characteristics of both Clintons plus Sarah Palin plus John Edwards all wrapped up in one package.

I do not understand

I do not understand how a man who has committed as many outrageous acts as deadbeat donald can be endorsed by anybody except the Ku Klux Klan.

He is about to be charged with pedaphilia, he has broken almost every contract he has written, he has discriminated against most minorities including women and he is an egotistical maniac to name just a few of his despicable traits.

Also, he has been endorsed by the Lubbock Avalanche Journal.

If he is elected, Judge Head needs to warm up the county tank to protect the area from Herre Trump.

If the "everyman" is a bigot who feeds off farm subsidies

It's apparent the Lubbock AJ-EB's editorial is reactionary in so many ways.

After all, these are the same white conservative bigots who falsely stereotyped folks fleeing violence, endorsed racist voter law, and endorse the hatred and political views of Mike Huckabee to marginalize their fellow Lubbockites.

Lubbock might be considered socially conservative. That is to say backward and intolerant, but it is economically progressive with government funding driving the economy.

President Obama has been very good to Lubbock and Texas. And could have been even better had our politicians and their media lapdogs not been complicit in obstructing access to affordable healthcare for hardworking families.

Secretary Clinton will also make a terrific President, especially if the caucus of Republicans beholden to racists, bigots, and poor excuses for editorial boards are neutralized.

Are there any women, people of color on primary Editorial Board

Last I read, the Editorial Board consists of the same (mostly) Jim Crow Era minded white guys who have been a lousy community service for years.

Maybe its time for a shake up in the editorial board. You folks are a humiliating mess.

If you believe that hilLIARy is out

for anything other than personal enrichment, then you are the ignorant ones.

She'll be a terrific president - if you're one of the big donors to the Clinton Foundation or paid her millions for speeches, or a good FOB (Friend of Bill, as it's known in her emails). There has never been a more corrupt candidate for President that hilLIARy.

After seeing all the state-run exchanges for the UCA fail across the country and double digit increases AGAIN in premiums and deductibles, those who haven't drank the liberal Kool-Aid are once again proven right for turning down the strings-attached government expansion of health care. What good is a policy that has deductibles so high that you'll never reach them?

The editorial board pretty much represents the citizens of Lubbock as will be reflected in the totals you'll see on Wednesday morning - like it or not.

Dare we ask which flunky economist at Tech

at the Free Market Institute (subsidized by taxpayer) flung his ignorant input into this editorial? Or was he even an economist at all?

It sort of smells like Jay Leeson may have had a hand in this with his baloney claims of trade deals and cotton.

Good grief, boys, the taxpayer ala big government farm bill helped you create the glut you have to contend with now. Don't give us this small government baloney and hyped conservative nonsense.

This is about keeping government to your lily white male selves and to heck with Texas' disgraceful rate of uninsured, highest maternal mortality rates in the developed world, poverty wages, etc.

"Conservative" Views

It's good that the illustrious A-J Editorial Board has confirmed that bigotry, misogyny, and overwhelming ignorance are considered "conservative views", and that people who base their lives on these desirable views should be honored and admired.

And now, here's the wonderfully talented Carly Simon:

"The Dangerous Vanity and Narcissism of Donald Trump"

Endorsement

Love ya anyway, A-J. It's been that way for about ten election cycles for POTUS - you endorse one way, I vote the other.

I had thought that you might be leaning towards not endorsing - considering what a blustering fool you have put your paper's name to might have been a better way to go - and simply recognizing that some elections will be too hard to see your way to taking a position on. I agree with hotrod in one sense - the editorial board is representative of citizens, but I'm seeing a lot of citizens who are NOT talking up the candidates at all when they were speaking out with more conviction in previous elections.

Did get an endorsement from the newspaper in Las Vegas owned by none other than Sheldon Addleson an ultra ultra conservative white guy just like the aj edit board is made up.

The difference Addleson is a mobster who buys elections with the money he RIPS people off with.

Am at the point where

I don't bother to read Hotrod very closely anymore.

"The editorial board pretty much represents the citizens of Lubbock"

If he means ignorant, intolerant, and horribly misinformed, then this might be one of his better statements.

Forget the conjecture about Hillary. The narrative is old and tired.

The exchanges have not all failed across the country. Are there hiccups? Yes.

Did Texas Republicans obstruct Obama exchanges in Texas? Yes.

Did Texas refuse to set up State exchanges? Yes

When health insurers are making record profits, why not put blame on the corporate greed or the GOP for obstructing more competition?

Obama had nothing to do with that.

slogan. He obviously meant "Make America Hate Again". Knowing which words mean what you actually mean can be helpful in getting your message straight.

Messaging error in editorial doesn't hide intent

The economic messaging is a farce. The 2nd Amendment concerns are a farce. The immigration vetting and border messaging are all farces.

They endorsed a racist moron who has manufactured crises and promoted false narratives with no coherent policy or explanation for the faux crises he promoted.

At almost every turn, the AJ-EB and contributors, former and current, have promoted bigotry to protect the wealthiest interests in Austin.

Lubbock is a funny place with what is said at Rotary Club meetings, events for the United Way, Tech events, and other such happenings. Make no mistake, more and more people are aware of the sort of transparency the editorial board is about.

Congratulations Lubbock AJ.

Congratulations Lubbock AJ. You also feel the pulse of the people. The ones subjected to ridicule and name calling by the so called educated liberal elite establishment. They live in a separate world than the ordinary citizen who has struggled under the beast of big government for 8 years. Another 4 years will break the backs of the hard working average American and do completely away wih the middle class. your words :He’s done it by dialing in to the general public’s disdain of the current leadership. Trump offers something different. And to those fed up with eight years of President Barack Obama and the continuous failures we’ve witnessed throughout Hillary Clinton’s career, they’re ready, as we are, to take the leap into the unknown rather than four more years of the status quo. have never rang so true. We have 8 years of history making low wage no benefit job growth, excessive taxes, excessive regulation, misserable foreign policy decisions, corruption, lies, the list is endless. I will take the unknown in Mr. Trump than the guaranteed 4 more year failures of Obama policies which Clinton will not only continue but expand.

But the truth hurts

We've had millions of jobs created under Obama and millions more covered with health insurance for the first time. Obama signed the farm bill and supported billions in disaster relief for Texans.

Growth has been steady and could have been better, but Republicans admitted they wouldn't allow that to happen.

Clem, you've demonstrated yourself to be both a racist and bigot on these platforms.

The AJ-EB has in so many ways demonstrated themselves to the same.

In fact, their bigotry is far worse because their endorsement of it carries much more weight than your juvenile racism spewed forth on this platform.

Weird, Clem

You just ignore your racism and that of your party and candidate only to lie about a woman who's never been convicted of a crime in her life.

A woman who's provided 8 million children with health insurance and fought for women's rights. A woman who supports the Voting Rights Act, strengthening healthcare, and living wages.

Your candidate is opposed to all of that and proudly says so.

Trump is a poisonous emetic

Somebody's been reading that Breitbart book, "Clinton Cash."

Which underlines the fact that most opinion relating to the candidates is not factually based. "Lyin' Hillary"? Does anyone -- has anyone ever -- lied more than Trump?

Hillary has changed some positions in response to Bernie and even to Trump. How does that compare to the guy who favored amnesty for at least "good" illegal aliens just 4 years ago? Who at that time said Hillary had done a good job as secretary of state?

How does the Clintons drumming up money for their charitable foundation compare with Trump who overtly stole from and misapplied money from his own foundation?

Trump had a lengthy marketing study done on how to appeal to the conservative base. He remade himself and created buzzwords in order to glam onto that base.

Trump is a so-so businessman who saved himself from disaster by using his marketing skills and the image that he crafted. Even shareholders that he in essence stole from have been taken in by that image.

Trump has no expertise or skills to run on, other than bilking the foolish and the stupid and staying afloat while others take the fall.

His personality and psychology are problematic if not scary. His conservatism is a marketing ploy to get votes. His business principles are bragging and bullying and denying and creating an image of genius and infallibility. He believes in nothing except Trump. Like the alien in "Predator," he is a chameleon.

There is ONE reason to vote for him, and that is to scare the hell out of everybody and shake Washington to the core.

It's like taking a poisonous emetic on the theory that you need to clean out your system. Well, maybe you do need cleaning out, but you might not survive this emetic.
